Hey,
I know this is a two-year-old thread, but i'm new to the site and just thought I'd throw what I know out there. Johnny Evers is my great-great-uncle (my grandmother's uncle), so I know about his descendants-- many of them still live in the Troy/Albany area. But I can't say I know much about his ancestry. It definitely traces back to Ireland- from my research so far it appears his grandparents may have come over from Ireland circa the 1820s; however, I have no confirmation of that at this point. I'd be interested to hear any other information anyone knows!

Evers name update

After getting some of the other family data from the circa 1880 records of Zion Lutheran Church in Summit Illinois. And - finding my GGGrandfather's naturalization papers, I have found that our family's last name was originally spelled Iwers. In English, this is pronounced long E Evers. Now, my cousins have somehow slipped into the short e Evers pronunciation, however, the records show the Iwers, and Long E Evers it is. At least for my family.

Bruce

I just found this post, so I really don't expect an answer, but I am looking for a Georgia Evers (probably married now) who went to the Edina, MN school district in the 60's. She would be 58-59 now. I'm the classmate finder for our 50 year reunion. Thanks!

This is perplexing to me bacause I had heard the exact opposite. In my family we have always spelled our last names Eavers. I was told that this was the case due to the fact that my great-grandfather, originally from Virginia, had murdered a man in a jealous rage over his lover and therefore needed to flee. In doing so he apparantly added the A- to the original Evers spelling and created a new life in Ohio.

What makes this more interesting is that I have met many of my Evers- family in Virginia with confirmation that we are blood relatives. Hmmm?

In the past year, we have found that our family surname was Eavers in the early 1800's in Pennsylvania & Kentucky. The oldest found was Phillip Eavers in PA and then John & James in Kentucky. I am interested if anyone else has come across this.

Also, told that a future father-in-law didn't want his daughter to marry "a lowly german school teacher" and his name was Eavers/Evers in Kentucky

He married a (Caroline?) I haven't been able to prove other than James R. & John A. in the family, so far. Also, a Matilda Evers from Kentucky. Supposedly, he served in the war of 1812. His sister Jane Evers (born about 1795) married a Mississippi river steamboat Capt. Roberts and lived in Evansville, IN. Does anyone recognize the above information?

A painting of the Barque White Sea of Boston by the German maritime artist Heinrich Andreas Sophus Petersen was sold at auction by Sotheby’s on 2 December 2005. This painting is inscribed "Barque White Sea of Boston Joseph Evans Master, Going Past Heligoland” and dated June 1859. In 2007 this same painting was sold by The Vallejo Maritime Gallery of Newport Beach California, and a fairly high quality image of it can be found in the Gallery Archives section their website vallejogallery.com. I have been researching Joseph Evans and the Barque White Sea because I believe that this is the ship that brought my great grandmother Anna Christina Pearson to America. It was interesting to learn that the ship’s master was German and that he had brothers in Gothenburg. My ancestor Pehr Pehrsson and his family embarked at Gothenburg in July 1859.

I don't know if my line is connected to yours. I almost think not. My g g grandfather was William Evers, born in PA in 1804, married in Ohio in 1842 to Catherine Gorrel. They settled in Williams County Ohio. If you think there may be a connection, please contact me.

 Hi,
I am actually looking for Mary E. Boatwright, who was white. My Great Grandfather had a sister with this name. I am not sure who she married, but this area and date was the most likely thing that I found for her age and I know she lived in Jackson Co.in 1880.
Do you know the couple from this marriage date and were they African Americans?
Thanks for your reply.
Sylvia Nordbrok
