Uriah Everson, East Garafraxa, Ontario newspaper article Thursday, January 11, 1906

Orangeville Banner

Thursday, January 11, 1906

Mr. Uriah Everson, a well-todo farmer living on the 14th Line of East Garafraxa met with an unfortunate accident last Friday afternoon. He was feeding a straw cutting machine, which he was operating by tread power, when he had the misfortune to get his right hand caught in the rollers. Part of the thumb and the whole of four fingers were severed. Drs. Gibson of Hillsburgh and Campbell of Grand Valley, who were summoned, found it necessary to amputate the hand at the wrist.

I have information on the Everson family of Crow Wing and Aitkin Counties in Minnesota on my website:

http://geneastory.com/genealogy/

This family, and the closely associated Gustad family, came to Minnesota from Møre og Romsdal in Norway in the late 1800s.

If you have additional information on this family, I would like to hear from you.

Don Carlson

Benjamin Everson - North Bergen, New Jersey

Does anyone have any information on Benjamin Everson who married Sarah(Sally)Riker in New Jersey in January 1825? He was born abt. 1804 in New Jersey, perhaps in Pompton Plains. There is so much information on the name 'Everson' and 'Evertse' and the like that I'm completely confused. It seems that an Evertse was the originator of the family group that includes 'Everson' - or do I have that wrong? At what point did the name change? I can't find a death report for Benjamin, but he wasn't in the North Bergen census for 1860 w/Sarah and some of their children.
Sarah Riker Everson died in 1883, her father's name isn't on her death report, but her mother is given as 'Letitia' - which I'm guessing could be Leticia...and actually I'm thinking that it's a nickname.
Any help or idea of direction to go would be appreciated.

Was just again looking for information about my great grandfather. Julius Otto Everson born about 1868. He married Olive Parthena Baker, parents are Paris R. Baker & Hannah Jewell Baker from Decorah, Winneshiek, Iowa. I have searching for the Everson line. My father told me stories that my great grandfather came over from Norway with a brother, but was seperated in New York, but my brother doesn't think so.

I know after Julius married Olive they lived in Iowa until all Olives' sibblings were old enough to get married or live on their own. I think in 1904 or 05 they left Iowa and seen some relatives in North Dakota on their way to Canada. They lived there with relatives and then moved to Montana to a homestead until the passing of Julius in 1943. He went by Otto J. Everson in Montana.

My father was born in 1900 in Iowa, and he was 60 when I was born and lived to 1986. Just wanted to know if I was wrong and he was born here in the states. Would love to know more if you have any information.

Ira J. Everson, b. abt. 1835 NY, resided in Minnesota

I am researching Ira J. Everson (abt. 1846 – Feb 22, 1919), who died in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Ira was a Civil War soldier I am trying to collect information on him and his family so I can write a biographical sketch on him for my Civil War Project. From about a half dozen postings on him and his relatives, that I have found at RootsWeb.Com and Genealogy.Com, I have been able to learn a great deal about him and his family. I have learned that he was married twice, first to Charlotte Norton and second to Viennia Curtis IND (1862 – Jul 17, 1939) MN. Mrs. Viennia (Curtis) Everson died in Redwood Falls, MN. Apparently, Ira had nine children with his first wife and six with his second, so he had about a fifteen children all total; unfortunately, I don’t have all of their names or dates of birth. One thing that really bugs me, is that I can’t locate Ira or his children in the 1880 census. I have tried every trick in the book to locate them in this census, but to no avail. Can anyone send me or post a listing of their names and the names of their spouses and where they resided?

I have learned that Ira had two brothers, Austin and Edwin Everson, who lived in Wabasha County, Minnesota in 1880. I assume that was where Ira and Charlotte (Norton) Everson lived prior to her death. Their names can probably be found in the 1870 census of Wabasha Co., MN. Ira also had other siblings as well. It has been posted that Edmond and Julia Everson were the parents and their children were: Harriet, Samuel, Ira J., Elvira, Jane Ann, Austin, Oscar, and Edmond (or Edwin). All of these children were born in the state of New York.

I have photographs of Ira’s tombstone, of Viennia’s tombstone and of Ervin Everson’s. I assume that Ervin was their son. All three are buried in the Redwood Falls cemetery, Redwood Falls, MN. I also have obits on Ira and Viennia.
Hi Jan - not sure if we have been in contact before - my direct line is Jonathon Everson born 1806 in Thorndon - to single mother Ann who died in June 1841 . I have never managed to find where she was from - but I have noted an Ann (still single) on a birth for Mark in 1800 in Wetheringsett and James in 1813 in Thorndon. I have no proof that it is the same Ann but kind of think it is. Have you come across and Ann Everson born 1770 in or around that area (age from her death cert which son Jonathon gave details).

James went out to Canada in 1836 on the ship Luchiel(?) , single and described as a labourer.
As for Mark - I haven't really followed him up as I am not definitely certain he is "ours".....unless you have come across something which might prove it?

I do have the fiche for Occold and Thorndon but nothing for Wetheringsett......so if you have something that might give us a clue as to where Ann might have come from it would be most welcome.
Thanks

Lynne in Carlisle

Greetings! I'm trying to prove my ancestor was Barnet Everston/Everson/Evertson who was born in 1757 in New Jersey. He married Jemima Gaskill in 1795 and had at least three children (Caleb, Elizabeth and others). He died ca 1814 and Jemima remarried a Mr. McHenry in Ohio. Both sides of this family came from New Jersey. I'm looking for additional children, siblings or parents of Barnet Everston. My proven ancestor was MARY EVERSTON b. 1811 in Ohio, and d. Nov 13, 1874 in Greenwood Co, Kansas. She married Henry Foster an among their children were children anmed Barnet and Caleb. I hope we can exchange info. chasnlin@yahoo.com

I am a direct decendent of Jeremiah and Maria Evertson. I have been to their graves in Illinois. Buried along with them are two of their daughters. I am decendent of son Joel Evertson who lived across the river in Knox County, MO. I do know that Jeremiah lived for a time in Clinton County, Ohio before Illinos. Evert Evertson is the name of his father and they did come from Cecil County MD. I have been to Cecil County but did not turn up much information. I do know that there were at least two generations of Evert Evertsons so you have to be careful. Let me know if you have any further information

Update.....
Martin (John?) and Sophie Tonneson Everson both died in 1892, she in January and he in June. Their three children went to an orphanage and the two girls were adopted, Katrina dying at a young age. Harvey was adopted, but sent back as his adopted mother grew gravely ill. He had a very difficult life until he was grown. There was another child born, a boy, in 1891, but he didn't go to the orphanage, so he may have died, or perhaps someone adopted him outright. I have no information on that.
Still searching, Joyce
