He was my 4th g-grandfather on my paternal side, his son EM Evins being my 3rd g-grandfather.

My maiden name was Laura Evans. :-)

Thanks!
Laura Gonzalez

Hi William, What all would you like to know?
He was my gg grandfather. My great grandfather was about 4 years old when his father died. My great grandfather was also named John Hamilton Evins and his older brother is the Jefferson Choice Evins who was President of Clifton Manufacturing. My maternal grandfather was named Jefferson Choice Evins after his uncle. John Hamilton Evins Sr. was a member of Congress and died while still in office so there is a good deal of information on line about him. I also have a xerox copy of a very old book of tributes to J. Hamilton Evins from members of Congress after his death. Let me know what you would like to know. I have photos of grave stones and of the beautiful old home that is still owned by Alex Evins in Spartanburg. My regular email is llbqueen55@gmail.com. My ancestry account is expiring soon. I am at a standstill in other areas and haven't worked on things for awhile. Kind of expensive just to be sitting there. Laura Barnett-Queen

The Lowery-Stevens Cemetery photo clearly states that "Wash" Evins killed Mr. Lowery over a land dispute. Thomas Mitchell Evins brother was George Washington Evins. I have heard he was called "Wash" for short. Hope this helps.

Hi guys, it's been a long time since we have communicated. I am going to upload to my Ferguson Tree some info regarding the Lowery-Evins killing. According to this info it wasn't TME who killed James Lowery but rather Wash Evins.

You can see it I guess as my stuff is all public. If I can't make it work my cousin Frank can.

Paige Walk

Hello,
I have a Susannah Evins, born 1800 in Franklin County, Georgia. I show her marrying a Laughlin Arendall about 1827 in Georgia. I do believe that her mother was Native American. I have connected the afore mentioned Susannah Evins, as sister to my line, John Leroy Evins. John's children and grandchildren applied for some type of benefits in the:
Extract of the Rejected Applications of the Guion Miller Roll of the Eastern Cherokee
Volume 3; by Jo Ann Curls Page
Application # 40255P: Shows that Nancy Evins Daniel applied for benefits as "Native American" Ancestry, so did her father, Justinian Evins, and her siblings?

Nancy Elizabeth Evins was my great granmother. Justinian Evins was Nancy's father. Their application was rejected. I guess they could not prove the Native Ancestry. However, If you see the photo of Nancy Baugh Evins daughter, Georgia Ann Evins, (Justinian's Aunt), you would swear that she is Native American.

My gg-grandfather Isaac (Evins) was born in Newberry in 1822 and his father (also named Isaac)was born in Maryland ca. 1765.

Isaac (b. 1822) had 10 siblings, one brother named John but not your John Hamilton Evins. Isaac married Permelia Waters and they were in Spartanburg ca. 1850. I recall Permelia's cousins married into the Hampton and Wofford families.

Family names associated with my Isaac's(1822) siblings include Lindsey, Myers, and Whitmire.

Last week I sent in the Family Tree DNA testing. Do you have an Evins family member, male of course, that has submitted DNA?

Thanks again,

Randy Evins
rde1022@yahoo.com

John Hamilton Evins is my GG grandfather. I have a photograph of his grave site if anyone is interested. I also have a copy of a very old book that is a compilation of eulogies from fellow Congressmen and includes a eulogy by Wade Hampton. Willing to share. He died of Bright's Disease while home in Spartanburg on a visit. He was sitting in his favorite chair at the time. His youngest child was just months old when he died. My G Grandfather was John Hamilton Evins, Jr., but he was one of the younger children. Oldest son was Jefferson Choice Evins who owned cotton mills - Clifton Manufacturing Company - outside of Spartanburg, SC. Happy to share anything that I have. Laurie

Hi Debbie,
I am a descendant of Mitch Evins, and I live in Buford, GA. Thomas Mitchell Evins, son, Justinian, was my paternal grandmother's, great grandfather. I'm not sure what to tell you about "Mitch" Evins, other than I only recently found out that, indeed he did go to Texas sometime in the 1850's. I have Mitch Evins Civil War records, and lots of info from his son, Justinian, who also served in the civil war, and later became a magistrate judge in Dekalb Co. Ga. I have photo's of Justinian and his daughters, one of which was my grandmothers, mother. I have a photo copy of Justinian Evins bible record that states that his father, Mitch Evins, died in Texas in 1899.
I would be happy to exchange any information, records, family tree, and photos that I have with you. If you are serious about sharing info, you can email me at russellfields@comcast.net
I hope to hear from you soon.
Rusty Fields

John L Evins and Nancy Baugh are well chronciled in "The History of Dekalb County Georgia". The Evins and Goodwin's lived near each other in the Cross Keys District Of Dekalb County Georgia.
I am trying to find info on Thomas Mitchell Evins, b) 1820. He was the son of John Leroy Evins of NC who moved to Atlanta GA about 1820 and purchased a lot of land in DeKalb Co. Thomas married Emiline (Emily) Collier and had a family of 9 children. He was listed in Gordon Co, GA 1850 Census.

The story goes that he shot and killed James Lowery Jr in DeKalb Co, GA abt 1852 over some land. I am trying to verify this fact. He is stated to have left his family and moved to Texas where he served in the Texas Calvary during the Civil War.

Does anyone have any info? I am willing to share my info.

Debby Finkle

Please email me at sidewinder_75@msn.com. My great, great, great grandfather was William Evins, married to a Sarah, but from what I have gathered they only had 2 children, but I have just started my search. I don't have a birthdate but his children were born in the 1880's, so possible he was born around 1861. Maybe we can help each other with information.

Rebecca is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, Arkansas. The cemetery is just off the Highway 425 to the east. I do not know the street which runs by the east (front) of the cemetery, but the back of the cemetery is east of highway 425 about straight across from a Wal-Mart Super center on the west side of the highway. The cemetery is east over the hill and out of sight a short distance. Rebecca, her husband and some of the family are buried near the south fence, that is south of and about a hundred yards east of the tall Confederate Soldier monument which is the dominant feature and easy to find.

This is the instruction I received from Roger Logan and when my father Wesley Robertson Evins, Rebecca's grandson, died we went by to see the site. This was in June 2001. The stones were relatively new, my guess would be 40-50 year old. I was taken back when I saw Rebecca's stone for I have always thought of her as Rebecca Dunlap. Her stone says 'Rebecca Evins'. It is correct but it just seemed strange. I am in the mist of cleaning out everything not needed in my house and if you send me your email address I will send you a copy of the pictures of the stones ( if I run across them).

William Evins of Missouri

I have searched for 30 plus years for William Alonzo Evins, bn. 7 oct 1861 in TN, m. Sarah Ann Murry, 1879. She said she was bn in GA and was Cherokee. William's death certificate states his father was Ben. They had 10 Children. I found William and James R. Eavins selling property in Shannon County in 1885 but have not connected them. any help would be appreciated. if anyone needs information on their children would be glad to share.
thanks Charles
