Hi,

I don't think we are related. However, I do have some information that might help you a little. Maybe you can sort through and see
something interesting.

I've found from the 1801 Norway Census that there was only about 8 farms at that time that were named Evjen. See web site:

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/index-eng.htm

Insert the farm name "EVJEN" and you should see something like the following:

EVJEN LILLE Størdalen Nordre Trondhjem
EVJEN YTTRE Folden Nordland
EVJEN, PLADS. Thunøe Smaalehnene
EVJEN Borge Nordland
EVJEN Folden Nordland
EVJEN Selløe Nordre Bergenhuus
EVJEN Størdalen Nordre Trondhjem
EVJEN Ørkedal Søndre Trondhjem

Each of these farms are kommune farms and had several families living at each. The people on the farms were not always related to each other.

All of my branch of the Evjen's came from south of Trondheim at Horg, Norway. They emigrated around 1867 to 1872 to Fillmore
County that is along the southern border of Minnesota.

I've come accross a number of Evjen's who are not related to me who are living in Canada North Dakota South Dakota
Minnesota. I will attach some e-mails I've gotten from them below.

Sorry I wasn't able to help you better. Good luck in your search and keep in touch in case you find anything or need any other kind of help?

Best Regards,
Dan Evjen
http://kinshiparchivist.com/~evjen/

P.S. Here are some other e-mail's I've gotten from other Evjen's who I could not connect to my branch.

Dear Mr. Evjen,

I enjoyed visiting your website and browsing through your family
tree. I am hunting Evjen roots as well. My great grandfather Christ
Nelson Evjen was born in 1861 near Trondheim, Norway.....and came to
Minnesota. He left Norway on April 14, 1880 and arrived on May 17.
He lived most of the rest of his life in Carlisle, Minnesota. His
parents were named Nels and Ingebory.......and now you know as much
about him as I do. If somehow this connects to some branch of your
tree, I would be delighted and would happily share lots of
information about his descendants.

I am Barbara (McArthur) Rochford....(yes, Evjens and members of the

Hi Daniel,

Sorry to disappoint you but I do not think I am in the family you
are looking for. My familiy have the surname "Evjen Kallar" with
"Kallar" as the farm-name. My familiy come from a small
village called "Selbu" about 70-80 km south of Trondheim.

If you think it would help you, I could send you some adresses
from people who live near Horg in Gauldal, but I would not make
it until october as I am studying abroad at the moment.

PS: Both baarde@dhhalden.no and ceebe@cee.hw.ac.uk is
the same person, me :-) I have just forgot to delete my entry
in the X.500 catalogue when I was studying in Norway.

Good luck in your search!

Cheers,

Daniel,
Thanks for the reply to my request. I have more information at home
that I will bring to school and share with you. I do know that my
great grandfather Jon O. Evjen changed his name from Jon Olson when
he came to America in the 1880's. Looking forward to chatting more
with you and learning about my genealogy.
Thanks again.

Hi again Dan
Did some more checking maps, mom, this farm is actually along ways
from where your family farm is marked on your map. the actual land
location is g.nr,43,b.nr.5 Nedre Eiker which is north of Drammen
in the Drammen vally and backed up to the river some place. Those
pictures were taken just a few years ago and sent to us by Iver and
Aslaug Evjen from Salt lake City. Iver was a decendent of the
Johnsrud and Sorteburg farms. The last person to live on the Evjen
farm was Ingeborg Evjen until she died in march 95.

Dear Dan,
My grandfather was Christopher Evjen, who immigrated around 1900
to Minnesota from "the far northern" part of Norway. He was the
only one of his immediate family to immegrate to America. I have
been unable to locate any other information. Is there any link to
your family? Does any one recall a "black sheep" named
Christopher Evjen?
Thank you

Hi Karen Art,

I received your family tree okay and re-attached it at the bottom of
this e-mail. The bad news is that I don't think we are related after
all. However, I do have some good news. I received an e-mail from
John Margie Evjen who I believe are related to you. Here is the
e-mail I got from them back in October of 1996:
