Robert, may I be bold enough to point out a few errors in your posting. See the Durham cathedral parish registers. Henry Ewbank married Anne Sampson 8 Sept 1586 (not 1596). Henry Ewbank was born 1556. An older sibling Cuthbert Ewbancke (later curate of All Saints Newcastle, and who married Alice Brooke 26 August 1574) was born 1540. So William Ewbank of Kirkby Stephen and Margaret Tibbald were probably married in the late 1530s not 1570. William James by the way was buried in Durham Cathedral on 21st Jan 1659/60. He was the canon selected to hold the canopy over King Charles 1st on his visit to the cathedral and was incidentally the nephew of another William James, Bishop of Durham, who was buried 12th June 1617. Robin Ewbank
