I, too, am a descendant of Maxcey Ewell through the Thomas Henry Ewell line. More specifically, through his son Amos Ewell (1829-1919) (eldest child), brother to Sarah Jane Ewell (1833-1898).

Not that it is incontrovertible evidence, but there is a reasonable expectation that Thomas Ewell, T.H. Ewell's father, was the child of Maxcey as Thomas Ewell (Sr.)'s eldest son was named Maxey (T.H. Ewell's brother).

I would be curious to know what people have found on Maxcey to date. From what I have, he was born in VA, so I would be curious to know who his people were.

-Alex
I am a descendent of Maxcey Ewell. Maxcey's granddaughter, Sarah Ewell, married Samuel Frederick and had a daughter, Katherine Jane "Jennie" Frederick. She in turn married Thomas A. Jackson, Jr. who was my paternal grandmother's (Vivian Louise Jackson Dailey) great-grandfather. I just discovered all of this today, and am still trying to understand the extensive interest behind Maxcey Ewell. Hmmm.

Olivia Lauren Dailey Jacobson

Mary's family traces back to President McKinley, although I have not found that connection yet. They had at about 6 children, one of who was my grandfather (also John Sheeran). He married Mary Loughran, and they 5 daughters, one of which is my mother. My mother and two of her sisters are still alive, but there memory is all but gone none due to age and alzheimers. But I would like to know more about the John Sheeran of which you speak. I am working all this on ancestry.com.

Thomas Henry Ewell from "Virginia"

I'm trying to track down a Thomas Henry Ewell who, according to census information from his children, was born in "Virginia" (can't say whether it is Virginia or West Virginia at this point) abt 1801. He married one Abigail _______, who herself was from Pennsylvania. Thomas H. lived in Greene Co., PA for some time (most likely meeting and marrying Abigail while there) as he appears in the Dunkard, Green, PA 1830 and 1840 US Census there. All four of his children were born in PA, at least two have been confirmed as being born in Greene Co. (fair bet the others were as well). By 1850, the remainder of his family (Abigail and the four children) are living in Tyler Co., Virginia (now Tyler Co., WEST Virginia)--and there is no sign of Thomas.

The children were:
- Amos Ewell, b: 1829 PA, m: Sarah Starkey, d: 1919 TX
- Thomas H Ewell; b: 1830 PA, m: Drusilla Cornell, d: 1907 WV
- Sarah Jane Ewell; b: 1833 PA, m: Jeremiah Bullman..., d: 1898 WV
- John S Ewell; b: 1835 PA, m: Nancy Shriver, d: 1900 TX

Unfortunately, Thomas H. (Sr.) appears to have gone by "Henry" but used Thomas H. on several legal documents, so its not as easy tracking him.

In 1800, so far, I'm only (really) seeing the Accomack Co., VA Ewells (23 1800 VA census entries listed), but I have no idea how Thomas H. tracks back to any of them.

Any pointers or ideas would be immensely helpful. Also, if anyone has any idea why Thomas might had migrated from wherever he was in "Virginia" to Greene Co., PA, that would also be welcomed. He was the only Ewell (by name) listed in Greene Co. for at least 20 years, so I'm trying to figure out the draw.

Thanks.

-Alex Senkevitch
Sonize,
My name is Bren, and I am also a granddaughter of Gertrude Ewell Weakley. Zanade Lorene Weakley King was my mother (passed away in 1998). Your father, I believe, was her brother. We would be first cousins.

I've found an approximately 500-page long online Weakley family tree that goes back to the early 1700's (if I recall correctly), but have had almost no luck researching the Ewell side, which I am most interested in since that is my maternal line.

The Weakley tree is here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~prattwv/en...

If that long URL broke up, here it is in tinyurl form:
http://tinyurl.com/brworj

Were you at Gertrude's funeral? I met a number of family members at that time, but have had no contact since. I was adopted out of the family at birth, then found my mother Zan and grandmother Gertrude in 1984.

Would love to hear from you. I am not a member of ancestry.com, though it appears I am able to post a reply. Please contact me directly at inknote@gmail.com, rather than replying only here, as I'm not sure I'll ever find my way back to this page. I would love to hear from you. I could not find an email for you, so hopefully this will reach you.

Bren
inknote@gmail.com
Hello Joe,
Do you know if your Ewell's are related to the Weakley's who lived there in Arkansas. My grandmother was Gertrude May Ewell, daughter of William Ewell. My grandmother Gertrude married a Lester S. Weakley in that area of Arkansas. My father is Dwayne K. Weakley, son of Lester S. & Gertrude May Ewell Weakley. Cousin of my father is Homer Webster, son of one of the Ewell daughters.
Joe you are about 11 years younger than my father,
Do any of these people sound familiar to you.
Joshua Ewell, son of David & Drucilla (Shuttleworth) Ewell, married Charlotte Summers Jun 30, 1838 in Van Buren (later Cass, later Bates, later Vernon) Co, MO. They had the following children:
….Ephriam Summers Ewell b. 1840
….Ira Austin Ewell b. 1842
….Henrietta and Harry Ewell, twins, b. Abt 1844

Charlotte Ewell is not listed in the 1850 Bates Co, MO Census with her husband and their children. Did she die during child birth with the twins in 1844?

"With Plow and Pen: The Diary of John G. Dryden," says that on Dec 16, 1878 John Dryden assisted in digging grave for Joshua Ewell. Does anyone have any information they could share regarding his death?
Ewell Family's of Arkansas

I am looking for any information on the Ewell's who lived in Arkansas. My Great Grandparents were William H.& Georgiana Hoyle Ewell, these are the parent of my grandmother Gertrude May Ewell. William Ewell was born April 9, 1855 in Ark. and Georgiana Hoyle Ewell was born Sept. 23, 1866 in Mississippi. Georgiana had 11 children, three children died, one before 1900, and two more between 1900-1910. Three of her living children were fathered by a Snell, which is whom Georgiana was first married, The rest of the living children are fathered by William Ewell. I have a list of the childrens names from a photo copy of the family bible that was sent to me. I am also searching to find out who the Snell was that Georgiana was married too, I dont know if he died or what. Any information on this Ewell family from Arkansas would be greatly appericated.

Thanks, S.Weakley

There is a Kaziah(Caziah) relative perhaps from Maine but I don't know if that is her. We also have Chamerlains from Maine/Mass in the bloodline. I would like more info but don't know how to proceed.

I've joined with VaLene Ewell Collings and Paul Jensen in creating a website for all Ewell families and "Ewell" spelling variants. We are hoping to be a "clearing house" for all Ewell families, and would love all of the help that anyone can give us. We hope that by everyone working together, we can iron out the discrepancies that exist in the oral histories, and possibly find the truth. Does anyone have pictures, family histories, pedigrees, etc... that they would like to submit to our website? Please let us know, and we would be happy to add it. Also, let us know if you are interested in helping out. Our website address is http://www.ewellfamily.org

Sincerely,
Shauna Dennis Burke

I am also a descendent of Maxcey Ewell who was married to Ann Mullins in 1769. Ann Mullins was the daughter of John Mullins who was the son of Richard Mullins. Do you have any information on where Richard Mullins was from in France or what his name was if he was French?

I am looking for info on Leighton Ewell or Layton Ewell who married Ora Fox. Their children were Pleasant, America, Eliza Jane, and Martha. He is suppose to be the son of Maxey Ewell and Ann Mullins. Any info would be great I don't have much now. Thanks Debbie

Ewell/Yuille/Yowell /Youell of Charles City, Henrico, Hanover, Goochland, and Albermarle Counties Virginia

I am a descendent of Maxcey Ewell who married Ann Mullens in 1769. It is clear through research that Maxcey does not descend through the Ewells of Virginia (Charles and descendents.) As I look at the Ewell Surname and its variations in the Goochland and surrounding counties during this period (1690 to 1760). The only Virginia Ewell I find is Bertrand who is a 100-plus miles away. Without getting into great detail, I find the following:

Thomas Yuille of Scotland (Chesterfield Co.,)
Thomas Yuille Jr. (Chesterfield Co., Cumberland)
John Yuille (Goochland)
George Yuille (Chesterfield)
Widdow Youell 1690 (Hanover)
Francis Yeule 1687 (Henrico)
Francis Youle (Henrico) (Has a daughter Mary, Elisabeth, and Slave Daniel)
Thomas Exell 1641 (Charles City)

A couple other clues, The father of Ann Mullens is John Mullens who I believe is a Huguenot, based on research I have done within the Huguenot of Manakintown library and related resources. Maxey is a strong Huguenot name. Everything I find points to Maxcey Ewell being a descendent of one of the Yuille’s above or he immigrated to the area.

QUESTION 1: Are you a descendent of one of the persons mentioned above? If yes, I would like to share notes and understand your linage.

QUESTION 2: Does Maxcey decent from one of the persons above? If yes what clues do you have?

QUESTION 3: Was any of the above mentioned Yuiulle, Yeule, and Yowell, Excell, or members of their family married to persons from the Huguenot Society? Maxeys?
