Have you contacted Torsten at www.Eymann.net. He's got the best data I know of on he European aspects of the family and is very helpful. When you see the site you'll se that Wolfgang maintains the database, and I don't see your people in the currently published version. If you are a member of geneanet.org (it's free to join), you could find the database page for Jurgen Hartmann's "Latschar" genealogy and click the Contact button. Jurgen is a European member of the Eymann family and has ready access to many European records.

Eymann, Oswald: help find relatives from Germany or Switzerland
I am trying to connect our family to other Eymanns. My Grandpa Oswald Heinrich Julius was born in Feb. 23 1880 in Brandenburg, Germany. He was a German Baptist minister and a gardener that came from Germany and then Switzerland and in 1911 he came to Canada. He had a brother named Conrad. There is a family story about an Eymann that was well to do but squandered his wealth. Coming home one night drunk, he fell off his horse and hit his head on a rock and was killed. Does this story sound familiar to anyone?

In the 1970's Helen who at that time was in her mid 60's told my mom that she was not her aunt but her birth mother and had given her up for adoption. My sister and I believe Helen actually gave our mom to her mother (Cora) and was raised by her. Therefore Cora was quite a bit older and had long passed before we were born. Does that make sense ?

Toni

My Mom and Dad were Mr. & Mrs. John C. Eyman. Kathleen was my mom'a aunt, a sister of Helen who was my my Grandmother.
Kathleen was married to Charles Coey a well to do man who owned property in Hickory Hills,Illinois such as Dynell Springs which is now the Sabre Room. Charles Coey also donated land to the Village of H.H. for municipal purposes and gave my parents a 1 acre plot for a wedding gift that my Dad built our house on. Aunt Kathy also owned property in Green Bay Wisc, and remember going there as a child. I believe after Charles died Aunt Kathy married a fellow named Vern who squandered all the money and died pretty much broke.

Hi Tom,
I'm so glad this little card made it back to it's family.

I have no idea why I figured it was from the 30's, maybe the font? Maybe it could be earlier since the card doesn't say "and family" or list children. Maybe it's not that old and the children have already grown, so that's why the children aren't listed. It adds some mystery to the card and it will be interesting if you can narrow down the time frame.

I was curious as to how it got all the way to Winnemuca, NV in a misc box of post cards and photos? The post cards I bought out of that bunch were all from the midwest.

Anyway....glad I could be of help!
Beverly

I can't wait to show it to my relatives.

I'm curious. What is it about the card that led you to believe it was from the 1930s? Not that I'm questioning it, because I'm certainly no authority. I'd just like to know.

Tom

Dear Tom, thank you for valuable information. You can reach me directly at torsten@eymann.net, or Wolfgang Eymann, who holds the data sources, at wolfgang@eymann.net. I am living in Germany, descending from Steffan Eymann (b. abt. 1530 Switzerland), and compile all the information I can get to this genealogical database (and other information at http://www.eymann.net).

The christmas card in question is offered privately by Beverly, and you might want to contact her by using this ancestry feedback form instead of your real email. I am aware that giving away email addresses in such an open forum is prone to attracting more spam.

Please do not hesitate to get back to me using email, if you have more questions to discuss.

Regards,

Torsten Eymann, Bayreuth, Germany

I am Tom Eyman (Thomas H. Eyman), grandson of Carl E. and Bessie H. Eyman mentioned in the post. My father is Richard H. Eyman, the youngest child of Carl and Bessie (born July 1930 - probably just after the records you were consulting).

The information posted is correct, except that in 1930, Carl and Bessie were living in Stamford, Connecticut.

I am very interested in the Christmas card that was mentioned. This being my first time using ancestry.com, I'm not sure how to go about exchanging contact information, and am hesitant to do so in this posting. Perhaps in your response you might have some suggestions. Thanks. Look forward to hearing from you.

I quest in 1930 Federal Census they are listed with 3 children. Carl Jr, Gloria and Cynthia. I haven't done a search for an obit but there would be one. Carl died in Stamford, Massachusetts and so did his wife about a year later. March 1976 for Carl and 1977 for Bessie.

David Jones

Hi David,
Thanks for the information. Do you know if there are any living relatives of Carl and Bessie Eyman? I'd love to pass this little card on to a family member. I'm not related in any way, I like to look at old cards and photos and this one caught my eye since it was personalized.

Thanks,
Beverly

I Don't know for sure but this might be Carl Everett Eyman and wife Bessie Harrison. This Carl would have been born August 4, 1894 and died March 1976. He lived in Massachusetts around 1930.
He was my 2nd cousin 3 times removed. His father was Daniel F. Eyman and his mother was Sarah Shank, his grandfather was George Eyman and Sarah Taylor. His grandfather was a brother to my 3rd great grandfather Jacob M. Eyman.
David Jones

Do you know if Jean Eyman was the daughter of Helen Goodwin? George and Cora Bumbaugh only had one daughter that I have ever found and if they had another, they would have been pretty old. Cora's sister had a daughter that I believe was named Jean. George Bumbaugh was a great uncle to my husband.
I would appreciate any help on these families.
Thank you.

while looking for information on Kathleen Bumbaugh Coey, I found her father's obituary and in it., it mentioned 2 daughters. I have never found but one. I think it might have been a niece he raised. Her name was Helen Goodwin. This 2nd daughter was Mrs. John C. Eyman of Hickory Hills, Illinois. John was born in 1918 and died in 1988. Does anyone know about this family? If so, would you share his wife's name with me?

Hi Steve:
I agree that there is very little info on Henry and Catherine. I saw your note saying that Samuel charged on Henry's account. The time is right. I am sure, but no proof, that Samuel is a child of Henry and Catherine. This is based upon location of both Henry and Samuel and the fact that Samuel's children were named Noah, Rachel Catherine, James Henry, George, and a Thomas. These were all names of Samuel's brothers, sister, mother and father. Also, that Samuel brothers,Thomas, Noah and Henry, Jr. all came to Bates County, Missouri.
Do you have dates of death of Henry and Catherine? I did find them in the 1850 census.
Do you know what happened to Catherine/Katherine Eyman, who married Felix Clark. Her children were living with Henry and Catherine in the 1850 Census. I wonder if they died in the cholera outbreak? I can't find death record.
I did find Samuel and Magdalena in the 1900 Census living with their son, Thomas, in Center, Vernon County, Missouri. The ages are wrong on them and his place of birth. They do not appear in the 1910 census and Thomas and family are living in Pawnee County, Oklahoma Territory.
I agree with you that Henry's father was Abraham but I have no proof.
My husband's connection is Rachel Catherine Eyman. She was his gr-grandmother. Rachel first married Thomas Lewis Wails in 1870 in Missouri. They had four children, Annie Mary, Sadie, Charles and Delila b. 1881, Adrian, Bates Co. Missouri. Annie and Delila were the only two that survived. Delila Mae married Francis Eugene Brewer. [Their daughter, Velma Vedas md. Leo Earl Ingraham, my husband's parents.]Thomas deserted the family. Her second marriage was to Henry Master Evans, abt. 1884 in Kansas. They had three children, Margaret Rozella b. 1886, Gertrude R. b. 1889 and Henry Noah b. 1891, all in Kansas.

There is so little information about Henry and Catherine's family. Sandy West probably has the best data, and I'm surprised she hasn't spotted this yet and responded in detail. I wondered too about the link between Samuel and the Henry and Catherine (beware -- there were other Henry Imans/Eymans around in that second generation!). Monroe Historical transcriptions recently though uncovered old receipts from a store where it seemed there were customers Henry Iman and also a Samuel Iman who records show was allowed to sign to his father Henry's account. I don't have the dates handy, but the time seemed right.

Steve:

Do you have the obit on Sarah? If not, I can forward it. Also found an obit for Daniel. West Point. 8 March 1900. Bowen Chronicle. "That grim reaper death has again entered our quiet little village and taken from our midst one of our most beloved and well respected citizens. Daniel Eyman was born in Monroe Co, Illinois, on Oct 15, 1827, and died at his home in West Point on Mar 2, 1900 at 5:20am, age 72 years 4 months and 12 days. Mr Eyman was married twice, the first time on Nov 18, 1851 to Miss Catharine Eyman (believed to be a cousin) who died Mar 18, 1853. To this union was born one child who died in infancy. He was again united in marriage to Mrs Sarah E Gibbons, who died Nov 1, 1895. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive him. One dying in infancy and another at ten years of age. (that would be Daniel H and Herman V respectively). Those living are Mrs. Electa Bettisworth, H A Eyman and J W Eyman all of whom reside in or near this town. Mr Eyman moved to this county in Nov 1856 on a farm two miles north of this place where he resided until Dec 1881 when he moved to West Point. He joined the Duncard Church early in life and remained a member until 1888 when he joined the Christian Church at this place, of which he has remained a faithful member. Mr Eyman has always been an honest and upright man, and in his death West Point loses one of her best citizens." I found a 1850 census of High Plains, St Clair Co, listing a Catharine Eyman. Right time frame and place. Would she be the cousin mentioned? Hope you find this info interesting.

Donna

Leannell:

Thanks so much for the great post. Sorry to have not gotten back to you on this in so very long. I've been away from all the confusions of this stuff, but want to work very much right on these questions.

You wish we had an obit for Daniel. I don't know if there's one around or not, and haven't searched myself. I have scraps of account though that I've copied and pasted (with minimal information) which appear to come from such an account written in the third person. Daniel, it noted, joined the Dunkard Church early in life and remained a faithful member until 1888 when he joined the West Point Christian Church. This affiliation has always interested me. The Christian who I believe was Henry's father was described by Emmert Bittinger as an dunkard elder in Hardy, though I know that he served in the militia during the revolutionary period -- quite a conflict there! Abraham Eyman, who I think arrived in Illinois before Henry and who I believe was Henry's uncle, seems to have been affiliated with the Lemen and/or Badgley Baptist churches.

We have such different names for children that I'm not sure quite where to start. What I'd like to do is work with you through email to see if we can establish some common ground here. Do you know Sandy Evans? She's got a ton of information on early findings, taxes, etc. and has done a whale of a job trying to reconstruct parts of this family. Please.. let me know at sciman@csupomona.edu where I could send copies of the data that I have.

Care..
Donna: Sorry to be so late in responding. Somehow I don't remember having gotten email of your post.

You asked about Sarah. I have her in my records with a prior name of Gibbons, and didn't know of her prior marriage. Since she seems to have married Daniel about 1854, I'd presume that most of the children thought related to Daniel would have been born by her. You have many more names than I've inherited, and we find some pretty severe differences on dates of birth. While you have John Williams at 1862, for instance (well after marriage to Sarah), I have him born in 1853, and therefore likely to be the son of Catherine since this was the year of her death. You show Mariah 1842, and this seems close to my Maria, though I have an estimated birth of 1862! We both show Emily S, though my date is 1854, rather than the 1844 you note. We both show Electa, and here we're not that far off on dates, with my 1857 approximating your 1859. We both show Herschel for 1861. I have had no knowledge of Victory, Thomas, Daniel, or Herman. Thanks.

In terms of siblings of Daniel, I do have him with names along those you mentioned. Abraham is likely the Absalom referred to in land and court records. In addition to George, Noah S., Thomas Taylor and Nancy, there may have been Mahala, Katherine, James, Henry, and Elias, though I believe that the latter, found with Henry's family in taxes shortly after 1850 was the son of a younger brother of Henry Sr. (a Christian Iman who married Mary Whiteside) whose family had largely perished in a cholera episode in 1849.

Hello Donna:
The only connection that I have to Henry and Samuel b. 1819 in Va. is that in the 1850 Census, Minerva age 16 was at the home of Samuel when the census was taken. She could not have been a child of Samuel but could have been a child of Henry & Catherine Sites Eyman. I have no proof of that.
I got an e-mail from Steve Iman and some of the info he gave me made me realize that your Daniel b. 1827 was previously married to Catherine?? The 1860 Census lists Maria, Emily, Victoria and Thomas as Eyman's. No true, they were the first children of Sarah Ann Elizabeth Gibbons and her first marriage to Jacob Gibbons. I cannot imagine that Daniel adopted them. These facts are set out in the obituary of Sarah Ann. Do you have a maiden name for Sarah Ann? I need to check that out.
Enough for today.
Leannell W. Ingraham

Hi Leannell: I'm still verifing this but here is the info I found in the 1850 census for Monroe Co, IL on Henry and Catherine's children: Daniel (age 24), George (22) Noah (21), Thomas (19), Elizabeth (17), Nancy (13) and it looks like Abraham (13) also. The numbers are hard to read. Abraham was a twin or 1 year younger. The census did not show the oldest, Samuel. So far they are the only children I have found. It shows the birth place of Henry and Catherine as Virginia and Illinois for the children. So far the info seems to fit. Hope this helps.
Donna

Steve, thanks for the comeback. Here is the info I found on Sarah's obit from The Christian Evangelist dated Nov 28, 1895 "Mrs Sarah E A Eyman died at 5pm, Friday, Nov 14, 1895, in her home in West Point, IL, being 71 years 2 months and 2 days. Deceased was born in North Carolina, August 30th, 1824. She came to Illinois in 1832 with her father settling in Monroe County. She was married to Jacob Gibbons, Feb 14, 1840, and had 5 children: one died in infancy, leaving 4 to survive her by that union; their names are Mariah, Emily, Victory and Thomas. Mr Gibbons died Jan 3, 1849. She married Daniel Eyman Oct 7, 1854, who still survives her. Five children were born to this union, two of which are dead, and 3 living: their names are Electa, Herschel and William. They moved to Hancock County, Nov 1856 and settled on a farm between Basco and West Point in 1881, which was their home at the time of her death. Mrs Eyman joined the German Baptist Church, Oct 1855, and remained a member of the congregation until 1888, when she and her husband united with the Christian Church in West Point. She was a member of this church when she died. Funeral conducted by Rev W S Lowe, pastor. Geo. W Wolf, Clerk." The dates I have for Daniel's children are infant (died before 1842), Mariah (1842), Emily S (1844), Victory (1847), Thomas (1849), Electa M (1859), Herschel Abram (1861) John William (1862), Herman V (1865-1875) and Daniel H (1866 and died before the 1880 census). I have not found any records that show Daniel and Catherine had any children in the few years they were married. Any info on that union would be appreciated. And do you have any info on Sarah's maiden name? In your reply, is this the same Samuel whose siblings are George, Noah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Nancy and Abraham? Hope these notes help.
Donna

If you will check the 1870 Census, Deer Creek, Bates Co. Missouri, you will find Fermetha, age 4, b. Illinois, living with Samuel Eyman and Maddlaine [ Magdalena Morganthaler]. They were lliving in St. Albans, Hancock Co. Illinois in the 1860 Census. I have Fermetha Mae [Netty] Eyman b. 1864 in Illinois. I have to presume that she was born in Hancock Co. Illinois.
I do not have a date of death or where Samuel and Magdalena died. I show they married 19 April 1845 in Monroe County, Illinois. If you know more info on samuel and Magdalena, I would be happy to share any info that I have with you. Samuel and Magdalena had a total of 8 children, which includes Fermetha.
Leannell Ingraham

Re: Daniel Eyman

Donna:

I have several Daniel Eymans, and I believe that the one who married the widown Sarah Gibbons in 1854 (Monroe) was born somewhat later than you're showing.. so that's a concern. My notes, pretty unsystematically collected, show Daniel born in Monroe 1837, and dying in 1900. Before marrying Sarah, who was thought born in North Carolina in 1824, he had married Catherine Eyman, born 1832 in St. Clair -- thought to be his cousin. Catherine was the daughter of Daniel Eyman, the son of Abraham Eyman who first arrived in Southern Illinois about 1796. Daniel had married Sarah Ware, from Arkansas, in 1823.

According to what I have, your Daniel, born 1837 and his wives had at least 5 children, and given birth dates, most of those must have been born to Sarah. I believe that Daniel's father was Henry Iman (about 1790) who had been born in Hardy County of today's West Virginia -- along the South Branch. Henry married Catherine Elizabeth Sites (a neighbor) there in 1811. Henry seems to have been the son of of Christian Iman/Eyman who arrived in that area in 1787, and is most likely the son of Jacob Eiman <1725> who arrived on the St. Andrews in 1749 and resided in the Upper Paxtang area where he filed for land by the name of May Apple Bottom along Clark's Creek. Penn Archives show your Daniel's grandfather as first owner of those lands. Daniel's father Christian seems to have been a dunker elder who also served in the militia during the revolution.

Apparently after marrying Gibbons, the family migrated to Hancock County to a farm two miles north of West Point. Daniel is thought to have joined the Dunkard Church early in life and remained a faithful member until 1888, when he joined West Point Christian Church and attended regularly until his death in 1900.

Please feel free to be in touch, and help me learn about your Daniel. You may find some of what I share at http://www.enthuz.com/friends/family of interest.

Care..
