Hi,
In chapter V of his book - Old Irish Life by J M Callwell,
1912 - wrote that Colonel Stratford Eyre following the defeat of the Scottish at Culloden returned to Galway
where he was appointed Governor and Admiral of Connaught.
He had served under the Duke of Cumberland there.
He is described as a grand-nephew of Edward Eyre M.P.
and had borne a conspicuous part in the final crushing defeat of the Scottish.
His uncle Edward Eyre M.P. had deprived the Martins' of Galway of their town houses and there was bitter resentment
for this.
J M Callwell was a family member of the Martins'.
