Bruce,
Thank you so much for replying and please excuse the lateness of mine (heavy workload lately).
These last few days, I have been deep in research concerning the Cromwell Invasion of Ireland. Since my initial post, I have come to learn my Eyre ancestors, before Kilkenny, were in Wexford. It is believed that they received lands for supporting Cromwell/the Crown. Ie., one of the Adventurers. I have found several lists of those receiving lands/estates at the time ... there are a few Eyre/Eyres but common forenames: Edward, Richard, Thomas, and John.
However, that is 1650's ... the earliest ancestor we know of Henry Eyre, born roughly 1780. He, his son John Eyre (born roughly 1800), and one of John's sons, William (born 1845), are listed as claimants in the 1798 Rebellion list of Claimants and Surrenders - all of County Wexford (Ballinvally and Kilpatrick).
As it stands, we do not have a connection to the Eyre folks of Galway. I wish we did, as since there has already been extensive genealogy done on those families, it would be easier to connect them to one of the main Eyre branches in England ... thus going back to the 1400's easily.
Right now, we have to figure out how to connect Henry Eyre with one of the Eyre/Eyres connected with the Cromwell invasion in Wexford. That is still 4-5 generations to find.
But it definitely wouldn't hurt for me to know more about the Galway Eyre clan ... and I've seen that Signpost to Eyrecourt mentioned several times now in my research. I'll have to see if I can find me a copy.
Thanks so much!
Barbara Eyre
