My step-uncle Alfred lived, when I knew him as a child (me) in/near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a wheat farmer; apparently, he later lost his fortune in post-retirement speculation. He was married to Mary ...; as far as I know, they did not have any children.
I knew my grandma (Caroline) as Grandma Beltman, not Caroline Fabel. At the time my parents married (see next paragraph), John Fabel was living in International Falls, MN, and apparently working as a fishing guide. According to my mother, he was essentially destitute, and he passed away shortly after 1933. I had always heard that, in Germany and maybe after he came to North America, he was trained and worked as a tailor. (I have a German pattern book of his, passed down from my mother.)
My mother was Marcella Fabel, married to Elmer Broman of Milaca, MN, in 1933. Her sister, Helen, was married to Milo POeterson, and they lived in Roseau, MN. She died sometime before my mother who passed away in 2003(?).
I am one of five Broman children: Robert, Kenneth, Charles, Joan Carrie (named after grandma Caroline), and Victoria.
