hello my name is Paul,my great great grand father name was Samuel j Fabian and his wife was Elizabeth Eakins they had two children Samuel James Fabian and Lizzie may Fabian,i am looking for information Lizzie may she is reported to have moved to Georgia then to Wisconsin ,my grand mother remembered talking to her as a child but could not remember where in Wisconsin, any help would be much appreciated

Hi, I actually closed the Fabian project (or rather, folded it into a larger one, the Hungarian Magyar project). Here is the link:

However, this is only for surnames of definite Magyar origin. There are also Czech and Slovak projects which might be better in light of the Slavic-sounding name variants.

What about the Czech Republic was part of Moravia, Bohemia town of Chabicov near Sternberk in 1490. Started as Fabian then Fabiku, then Fabek, and settled 1590-1600 as Fabik.Land records showed these variants.

Israel, sorry I found out about this so many years later. My mother is Berta, hija de Pepe (Jose) hermano de Teofilo, tio de Pepa Lola. My sister Bertha remembers more than me, I have been in Miami for 46 years now, and I really have lost touch. Mis tias son Ana Mercedes, Marcia y mi tio Pepito. I know that everyone with that last name is related.

My mothers surname is Menchero, my grandfather was Jose Menchero,I understand is from Spain (Castilla Leon). We lived in Cuba and now we are all here in the US. To my understanding everyone with that last name is related one way or another.

Hi all,

Anyone here know of an Emilia or Amelia who married Jozef Niziolek in Newark then moved to and lived in South River, NJ? My mother claims she remembers her grandmother always telling her about Buffalo and having family there. Her last name on paperwork is Fabianska, Fabijanski...so it varies.

My father in law was Louis John Fabian dob: 1921 married to Margaret Fedor

His father was John Fabian born in Hungary - I'll have to get the date of birth from his gravestone.

Diederich Emanuel Christian Frederich Oertling

He was born in Germany Sept 1, 1821 and died in New Orleans Sept 22, 1891.

His first wife's name was Antoinette Schultz

My grandmother was an Anna Ginsky of Detroit and her close friends lived in Buffalo. I don't remember their name. She was born 4 July 1882 in Detroit and her ancestors came from Prussia.

Wow, it's 2:20 AM and I just happened to google my name, and came up with your message. My grandfather's name was Matthew Fabian, and he was a coalminer in Barnsboro PA also. He died in a cave in at the mine. He was also a Czechoslovakian. My dad's name was Victor Fabian, who also worked in the mines, and I don't remember him telling me about any other Fabians in Barnesboro PA.

My Fabian family lived in Budapest, my great- grandfather György got married with Katalin Bilhover, they had five kids, Laszlo, Tibor, Terez, Emma and Gyula, my grandfather, who born in 1887.

Fabians from Germany

All of the following are from Germany but none of them are tied together. They are from Meckesheim, Baden Germany 1620 - 1900.

Hans Steffan, Andreas, Anna Clara, Johannes, August, Balthasar, Bludau, Bruno, Conrad 1659, Carl, Eva Dorthea 1704, Carolina Rosinea, Charles 1865 - Munich, Charles G. 1855 - Vogelsburg, Diebold 1709 - Altenheim, Ernestine 1818 - Schweisen Kreis, Gottlieb 1832 - Prussia, and finally my Grandfather Julius b1889 came to the USA 1903 from Kiel Germany.

Does anyone have ties to German records to tie these names together and maybe find where my Grandfather came from?

Supposedly I have an aunt buried in Germany, probably died at a young age. Julius was 33 when came to the USA.

Any help would be appreciatted.

The name seems to have derived from Fabianus, Bishop of Rome, a martyr who was slain by the Roman Emperor Decius in 250 A.D. When surnames became mandatory in Europe, men sometimes adopted the name of some famous or admired historical person. Religeous persons often took the name of saints or religeous martyrs. Fabianus was the inspiration for several variations of the name in different languages and countries. Fabel, Fabion, Fabel, Fabis, Fabisch, Fabigan, Fabijan, Fabianke, Fabian, and possibly others, are all variations of the name.

Just trying to find a starting point. My great grandfather was Stephan Fabian who came over from Budapest Hungary late 1800's. Married my great grandmother Mary Demish whose roots are somewhere around Rahway New Jersey. She had a brother Julius and a sister Irene. Both from Rahway New Jersey. They both settled in Lindenhurst New york. They had 2 children Theodore Howard Fabian ( my grandfather) and Mabel Elizabeth Fabian(married name Hogan). Where does the name Fabin come from?

I am a Fabin, African born (UK raised) and I am curious to know which country this name originates from as it is definitely not a typical Ghanaian name (where my family is from). I am not really searching for family connections as I know that my surname was not my family's original name, which was Fobee, but was anglicised by my Grandfather's European colleagues when he was a young man and has since become the family surname. All useful information will be appreciated.

I have just discovered that his correct name is Julius FABIAN. I still believe their daughter to be Margaget who married Julius MESSER. One of their children is William MESSER. William was raised by his grandparents Julius and Augusta FABIAN.

We saw your posting re greatgrandmother Mary Demish. Our sirname is Demish,my husband is the son of George & Mary Kurjan Demish who came from Carteret New jersey. George Demish came to the U.S. in the late 1800's with his mother, from we think Budepest. We do not have a lot of information. However, George had cousins who were named Julius & Irene.Their last names were also Demish, and there were other family members as well that we know of names of John, Anna, & Rose. We do not know of a Mary who was their sister, but George's mother's name was Mary Demish. Any info would be appreciated.

My husbands relatives came from Hungary, also. His mother was Margaret Fedor dob 1921, and his father was John Louis Fabian dob 1920's. His mother was born in Hungary, his dad was a second generation. The family does not know what area of Hungary the Fabian's are from, perhaps Budapest, but they settled in western Pennsylvania/western Ohio.
From talking with my husband, he has no real interest in the family history, only mild interest in visiting Hungary someday. He stated that from what he heard, the relatives back in Hungary kept asking for expensive gifts, thinking that since the family was living in America, that they were now rich. So they cut off contact with the family left in Hungary. Sad to hear that. Now that history will be lost. I ask the Fedor relatives what they know, they don't answer my emails. And there are no living older relatives on the Fabian side to ask.
