Re: Facy or Facey family of Egloskerry, Cornwall and Ashburton, Devon

Hi Fiona. Thanks for your response.

We MIGHT be related, albeit distantly, via my 4th great-grandparents Peter & Frances Facy.
Peter was born at Egloskerry in 1735, parents Joseph & Elizabeth. He married Frances Cock (b1745 in Cornwall, probably St Gennys, father John Cock) at St Gennys in 1768.
Peter & Frances appear to have had 11 children, all christened at Egloskerry: Joseph b1769, John b1770, Peter b1774 (my 3rd great-grandfather), Ann(e) b1775, Margaret #1 also b1775 (apparently an infant death), Margaret #2 b1777, Honnour [sic] or Honor b1779, William b1781, James b1783, Frances 1785, Elizabeth b1772. The parents were variously recorded as Facy or Facey, the mother as Frances or Francis (Cock).
My ancestor, Peter Facy b1774, moved to Ashburton, Devon and married Mary Smerdon there in 1804. They emigrated to Tasmania in 1824/25 where one of his daughters (ALSO a Frances, b1809) married JW Woolley in 1827. One of their children (Eliza) married my great-grandfather Thomas Luke.
Your Frances Facy b1803 would POSSIBLY have been a daughter of Joseph b1769, John b1770, William b1781 or James b1783.
I can probably dig out some earlier information if you think their parents, Peter Facy/Facey & Frances Cock, were our common ancestors.
Kind regards, David

Hello, I have recently found a Frances Facy in my family. Born 1803 in Egloskerry, died 1891 in Exeter. She married James Hexter (1810- 1881) on 19/08/1836 in Exeter. As Egloskerry is quite a small place and Facy an unusual name I would imagine there is some connection but I have only just started tracing my family, so no more info at the moment.
Regards, Fiona

My grndfthr Charlie Facey had alot of land in St Eliz, but as my dad was the child before wedlock he never got anything. Hope you find this interesting!!! G

They prospered and ended up owning quite a lot of property in Sydney in the 1800s.
I have extensively traced him and his family and parents both in Bristol and in Australia and am happy to share information.

If you would like to contact me offline, my email address is rdavies at lis.net.au (substitute @ for "at")

Robyn D

Capt. John Facey was an English captain that traveled the seas and to Jamaica.

I assume all Facey's are related, but the tree is very extended.

Exactly what information are you looking for?

F Facey

Not sure if I can assit, but advise what exacty is your known background
My father's parents, were from St.Elizabeth,Jamaica.They had about 6 children. They were Joy Facey-Smith,Robin Facey, and my father Solomon Facey. Some of them migrated overseas; I'm not sure where. My grandparents names I'm not sure of but the mistress was Harriett Facey I believe and they died between 1998-2002. I am sorry I don't know more about them because I grew up with my father in Montego Bay;St.James and Florida and I haven't asked my father a lot about them. I do know there are a lot of Faceys in St.Elizabeth. I've been there twice for my grandparents funeral when I was smaller and they are many I can't remember everyone.

Hi Dale,
When I first started going on this site, another Facey explained to me (via email) that there were two gentlement named Facey who migrated to Jamaica in the 1800's. One settled in Spanish Town and the other in St. Elizabeth. He said they were not related nor had any particular contact with each other.
I am not sure if that is of any help but just thought I would pass it on.
Take care.
Joanalee

Hi Winston,
I have not looked at this site in a long time and I am not even sure if after all this time you will see my reply.
Anyway, I have no new information. My grandfather was also from St. Elizabeth but after his father died, he and his brothers had some kind of disagreement and they parted ways so we do not know any of our Facey relatives besides those that directly came from my grandfather (which was only my father and his sister).
Sorry I cannot be more helpful.
Joanalee

Possibly, but distant.

One of my ancestors, Peter Facy b.1735 in Egloskerry,Cornwall married Frances Cock b.c1745 at St Genny's, Cornwall in 1768. They had 10-11 children, christened at Egloskerry, including a WILLIAM born 15/8/1781 as well as my ancestor, yet another Peter Facy b.1774.

Perhaps this William was your's??

The IGI is quite good on Egloskery

Kind regards, David Luke
Facy or Facey family of Egloskerry, Cornwall and Ashburton, Devon

One of my ancestors is believed to be the JOSEPH FACY born at Egloskerry, Cornwall in 1706, probably the Joseph Facy who married Elizabeth LUGGAR at Egloskerry or nearby Tremaine in 1732. They appear to have borne at least two children, both christened at Egloskerry: (i) Honour Facy 1732 (7 months after parents married), (ii) Peter Facy 1735.
PETER FACY ch.1732 married Frances COCK at St. Genny’s, Cornwall in 1768. They had 9-10 children, all christened at Egloskerry: Joseph 1769, John 1770,Peter 1774, Anne 1775, Margaret 1775(presumably an infant death), Margaret 1777, Honnour [sic] 1779, William 1781, James 1783, and Frances 1785. The family moved 30 miles to Ashburton, Devon (about 30 miles from Egloskerry), presumably after their last child was christened in 1785.
PETER FACY ch.1774 married MARY SMERDON at Ashburton, Devon or at Buckland (in-the-Moor?) in 1802-04. They had 7 children, all born in Ashburton: Elizabeth 1804-ca1859 (m.1825 Captain John Lovitt); Mary 1806-1875 (m.1827 William Worthy & m.1830 Edward Wilkinson); Frances 1809-1843 (m.1827 Joseph William Woolley in Hobart); Joseph 1812-1869 (m.1848-50 Hannah Saunders); John 1818-1860; Anne 1820-1871 (m.1840-43 Captain Samuel James Lindsay); Peter 1822-1890 m.1850 Eliza Vautin.
All of the Facy family emigrated to Tasmania in 1824.

I was wondering if there anyone has any connections?
The family name appears to have sometimes been spelt as Facey in the earlier years.
Many thanks, David Luke
My John Facey was born 1816/17, baptised 30 January 1820 in Temple Church Trinity, Bristol, at the same time as his siblings were baptised; father was John Facey and mother Sarah Nutt. His mother died when he was young and his father remarried to Sarah's sister, Elizabeth Nutt in 1822.

My John Facey had 3 siblings by his father's first marriage to his mother - James, b. abt. 1813, Hannah b. abt. 1815, Sarah, b. abt. 1820. It is thought that John's mother Sarah died shortly after the birth of the youngest child.

The second marriage of John snr. to Elizabeth Nutt produced Sophie, b. abt. 1822 and Mary b. abt 1824.

The family came originally from the Devon area where most Faceys originated. I do not know the reason for their move to Bristol - though assume it was looking for work.

Hope this information is useful in your searches.
RobynD

Most FACEY's came from Devon, England; however my John Facey was one of only a few from Bristol. By checking the Devon Parish Records, it should be reasonably easy to establish the relevant Facey line.

Hello, I am trying to research the same line. We're in Michigan, and I am researching my husband's paternal family. His grandmother was Rosa Morrison, who is a daughter of Eva Facey. Her father was Lambert Facey and Clara Ann Herrera Martinez. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
Nancy

Hi,
My Grandfather(Facey) was from St. Elizabth. When I first posted entry to this board, someone e-mailed and told me that two men named Facey immigrated to Jamaica in the 1800's. One to Spanish Town and one to St. Elizabeth. They were not related or had any particular contact. I do not know how helpful this will be to you.
Joanalee

Hi Shelley,
Believe we are related. Your Grandfather Edwin (Ted) Facey is my Dad's (Henry/Harry) older brother. I wondered how far you have progressed with the family tree. I have not been doing this for very long and got so far. Traced the family to Winchester but I am getting confused with the lines now. Is Enoch born 1791 and Henry born 1818 a Cordwainer the right lineage? Anyway would be good to hear from you. Penny

Eva married Athiel Emmanuel Morrision (you prpbably know this). I also have 10 children listed for them(possibly one was a twin),one of which was our grandmother(Rosa). Do you find an Alexander Facey anywhere in your records?
