Blood From The Bayou Runs Through Me, The Faciane Family of St. Tammany Parish, LA

The Picayune, Sunday, May 28, 2000
Written by Sandra Pichon

The draft of the first of four genealogy books titled "Blood from the Bayou Runs Through Me, the Faciane Family of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana" was recently donated to the Slidell Library for its genealogy department.

The book was organized by Karen L. Siverson, granddaughter of Josephine Mildred "Millie" Faciane Pena and Peter Charles Pena. It contains information contributed by the Faciane, Galatas, Pena, and Pichon families of St. Tammany Parish.

The book is 380 pages and includes more than 40 phtotographs. Joseph Faciane, born in Cadiz, Spain, around 1819 was the immigrant ancestor in the family and was the son of Bartholome Faciane. It contains a detailed descendant section with sources that tells how each individuals is related to Bartholome Faciane, a research contacts section, a Faciane birthday and anniversary calendar and more.

There are 1,703 Faciane family members represened in the draft copy, 1,143 of whom are direct descendants, the remainder being those married into the family. Community members with family ties to the Facianes are encouraged to visit the Slidell Library and review the book.

While Siverson tried to interpret her mother, Frances Pena O'Reilly's handwritten notes and other items, she believes that mistaks may exist and need to be addressed, as well as any additions or deletions before the final permanent copy is bound. The book is the first of four. The other volumes will be on the Galatas family, whose membership is currently 1,276; the Pena family, 2,070, and the Pichons, whose last count was at 3,035.

Each volume will be donated to the Slidell Library for its genealogy department. Siverson may be contacted by E-mail at RoryKaren@ao.com or by mail, 7556 Bruce Road, Custer, WA 98240.

Family members may pick up genealogy sheets at the green-and-white-canopied booth at this year's Bayou Liberty Pirogue Races and discuss the families.

Bonaparte Theophile Faciane - born 1-6-1878

Searching for information on Bonaparte Theophile (referred to in census as "Theophile"), son of Joseph Theophile Faciane. I know he was born and died in Slidell, LA, but don't know where he is buried, or why I cannot locate him on the 1930 census. His daughter Ellen (the grandmother of my son-in-law) married a John Brooks Hewett sometime before 1948, and they lived in Slidell in the late 40's - early 50's.

I'm researching my husband's family. Have the Facianes back to Bartolome Faciane, b. bef.1800 in Spain and his wife, Angela Vinola. Their son, Joseph Faciane, b. abt 1820 in Cadiz, Spain, went to St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, prior to 1850. Have lots on the family in the 1800s and early 1900s but not as much on the later descendants. Willing to share what I have with anyone interested.

curious about family root

My maiden name is faciane, and I was wondering a bit about our genealogy. From what I know, it has been traced back to a stowaway from the island of corsica. Although, I have never been told the name. As the story goes, he was befriended by a man on the ship who took him back to Slidelle. I am also aware that my family had once own a lot of land in that area, but as time went on it has been lost. The last peice of information that I'm looking for is that there is some speculation that there is some isleno in there somewhere. There are a lot of holes in what I know, and I would deffinately like to know more. anyone with information please email me at amiee.tate@nellis.mil. Thankyou!

I am sorry I was unable to return any of your e-mail's. I had a family emergency and could not concentrate on the family history. I share this e-mail account with my sister, Lynette Faciane. She has e-mailed you also. We have discovered but are not 100% sure but our Great-Grandfather, Alvarez Faciane fathered children with a lady named Basile Pichon. It is from that union my Grandfather, Joseph Anthony was born. I will verify and get back to you. I would like to know more about the Pichon's of St. Tammany Parish.
