My husband and I are trying to track down his side of the family, which are the Fackler's and live(d) in the Emmett/Boise area. From what we were told by Art last night ALL of the Facklers in Emmett are related in some way, shape or form.

My husbands name is Tim Fackler.

His parents are Robert L. Fackler and Kay Linden.

Bob's parents are Roy Harrison Fackler (b: abt 1901 and we think in Nebraska) and Ruth Irene Inman (born May 1917). Roy had a brother nicknamed "Babe". Roy had a first wife named Lela Venita Gifford. They married August 15th 1925. Lela passed in 1935. Some of the children named below are hers and some are Ruth's.

Bob's brothers and sisters that we know of are:

Mary, Bette Fackler Wheeler, Betty (yes there were two in the same family), Edna M. Fackler Cudney, Helen, Duane, Art Stockman, Marvin and Phyllis. There are more but that is all the youngest kids can remember.

Bette married Don Wheeler and she lives in Boise to this day. She is not doing very well from what I heard last night, but has always been a sweet person. Her kids are Mike, Ron and Pam.

Edna passed in 2006 along with her husband Wayne. They were long time residents of the Cornelius Pass community of Portland Oregon. As a matter of fact that is where Bob met Kay. Kay's parents owned and operated the Plainview Grocery and Auto Parts store at Cornelius Pass that is still in the family. Tim (my husband) never met any of her children.

Duane died in the early 1960's in a car accident and Tim is named for him by middle name

Art lives in Moses Lake, Wa with his wife. His sons are Doug and Darryl.

Marvin is semi retired and is a Camp Host on the Oregon Coast circuit. He has three daughters: Annette, Cheryl and Brenda.

Phyllis is living in Moses Lake and has a son an a daughter Dirk and Debbie.

We are trying to track down Roy's parent's names. We think the names were Samual and Pearl. Samual we think was born in Iowa. We don't have any information on Pearl.

Any info would be appreciated.

Shauna and Tim Fackler

Yes, I now have found a fair amount of information about Sarah Fackler and her descendants, including the children she had with both husbands, thanks to the help of Elaine Fackler Roller.

You can view my information about Sarah in my database listed on my MUMMA website at:
http://www.mumma.org/mumma.html and the database at
http://www.mumma.org/databases/mumma/mumma.html

I was unaware that Sarah Fackler Mumma Albert is buried in the St. John's United Brethern Church cemetery in Grantsville. Is there a tombstone for her? Are Jacob Mumma and John Albert also buried there?

I am still trying to determine the parents of Jacob Mumma. Any further information would be appreciated.

Fackler/Fockler DNA male testing

I'm looking for male direct line descendants of the early Fackler/Focklers who might be interested in a Fackler DNA testing project.

A few of us have already started with DNA testing at FamilytreeDNA.

We hope to determine if, and how closely, related the Fahrenbach Facklers are to the Metterzimmern Facklers.

Fahrenbach and Metterzimmern are the two small villages in southwestern Germany where those early Facklers came from.

Some of us, such as myself, think we know which family we are descended from but don't know for sure. If we have tests from male descendants who are sure which family they are descended from, then the tests should tell us which group we are most closely related to.

Adam, George and Wendel, the three brothers from Fahrenbach, settled on the east side of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania while Hans Jacob Fackler from Metterzimmern, his son Adam and son John and American born Michael settled in York and the York region on the west side of the river. Thus if you have traced your roots back to any of these male Facklers then you know which town in Germany you are connected to.

My name is Ken Fockler. I'm in Canada and am descended from the John George Fockler(Fackler) who came to Canada about 1797 - 1800 with a large family. John George Fockler married Catherine Baker duaghter of Jacob Baker. I believe he was the son of Adam, son of Jacob from Metterzimmern but can't prove it - yet.

At a future time I could provide more information on those families in Metterzimmern and Fahrenbach for those interested. And if anyone has information that proves who John George Fockler's father was I'd be interested.

Ken

Re: Fackler Genealogy Books?

Harry,

I am a direct descendant of George and Susannah Fackler, who are buried in Raysor's cemetery, through their daughter Barbara Fackler / John Beck.

Yes, AO Fackler did make several errors. I discovered this many years ago when someone sent me several sheets of the descendants. When I found the same children for two sets of parents, and one I knew was mine, I had to make several trips back to Pennsylvania to recollect my information. I do feel that he did a remarkable job considering that he had to do all of this research the old fashioned way and that these hearty Germans all named their children the same and all were born close in time and migrated in nearly the same pathways.

Rachel Fackler / Henry Hoch, who are buried in Shippensburg, told their family that Rachel was born onboard ship. They assumed that was when the family came over. They were surprised when I was able to show them that George and Wendel lived in Lancaster and then Dauphin Counties, Pennsylvania. This tells me that it is likely that at least George went back 'home' about 1778/1779.

I also have been told that Wendel went back and brought the mother and other brothers. I was never able to prove his indenture in Philadelphia, but since it is such a strong family history, I keep it in mind.

There is one good book written by Dr. Ann Schifflet of Fredericksburg, MD. She did extensive and thorough research of Wendel Fackler's line. To my knowledge, no one has located his burial place. I have been to the burial grounds on the farm of Solomon Fackler looking for him. The last time I was there, it was totally surrounded by subdivisions. The first time it was way out in a pasture.

Gloria Hall, Mayville, Michigan TrischHall@centurytel.net

This line is throughly mixed up with the Holtzapples. If you want to share some information please let me know.

Len

I am looking for my great great grandfather Elias J Fackler. He originated from Pennsylvania I'm told. He was married to a Emma E Mohn whom later moved to Maryland and remarried a George Reeder. They had one son Harry J Fackler. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - Michael

Re: Fackler Genealogy Books?

Lisa,
This is a rather slow response to your query of 2000, but if you are still interested, I am working on several books on "The Fackler/Focklers in America".

I am a direct descendant of Johann Wendel Fackler through his first son Johann (John) George Fackler, b. 1767. Here is some recent info that may interest you.

I have been researching for over 30 years. In the process I have also been trying to tie together all of the Facklers who came to America in the early-to-mid 18th century. Several of us, Louis Fackler in CA, and Ken Fockler in Canada, and myself have been interested in where all the Facklers came from in Germany.

Just this past year we have positive proof of the location that Hans Jacob Fackler and his wife Maria Magdalena (Beltzhuber) Fackler and their children Adam and Barbara) came from was the Lochgau-Mitterzimmer-Necharkries-Werttemburg area of the Pfalz (Palatine) in the southwestern Rhein-Pfalz district. The documents are in a Lutheran church in Metterzimmer. David Brown is responsible for this data - all prime source documentation - on the Beltzhuber Family.

Louis, Ken and I have concluded that the data presented by O.A. Fackler in his speech in 1956 contains much warm, fuzzy fantasy. All of the Facklers were not brothers. They may be related, but as of this time we do not have proof of relationship. Hans Jacob, born in 1690, and his family came in 1737 and settled in York Twp, PA. A Hans Adam arrived in Sept 1749 with his wife Barbara (Finck). Johann Christoph arrived in Oct 1749 and is believed to be the son of the Hans Jacob who was left behind when the family sailed in 1737. For what reason he was left behind is unknown. Hans George arrived in 1750 and settled in the same area as the Hans Adam (above). Johann Wendel arrived in Nov 1763 and settled near his brother George. We now believe that Adam, George and Wendel were brothers living in the same area of Paxton Twp., Dauphin County, PA.

As for any of them coming from Switzerland, we can find no records to support this. There is also no documented evidence of the trip Wendel took back to Germany nor any evidence of two younger brother and a mother brought back from Germany. Incidentally, if the mother was the mother of them all, she would have had to bear children for over 55 years!

Robert Battle has data that says the Hans Adam (above)came from the Farhenbach-Mosbach-Werttemburg area which is actually near the one Hans Jacob came from. Also, Hans Adam's father was named Abraham and was a woodcutter. If anyone has actual documentation that would prove or disprove any of these assumptions please contact me.

Harry Fockler

Nadine,
Hi. I have some info on this part of the family. I do have some on John Rudolph Startzer and his first wife Mary Ann, but not much. Sarah and John were my ggg grandparents. My gg grandmother was Lydia. I noted that you mentioned her name in a later thread. I'm still trying to find information on the Rancks as well. Christiana Ranck was Johann Wendell Fackler's wife and the mother of John George Fackler, the father of Valentine Fackler, and so on and so forth. I know that Christiana came from a large family and that they had ties to a Ranck castle in Germany. I lost a lot of that information, though when I switched to a new computer. Let me know what I can do to help.
Cindy Langdale

I visited this cemetery two years ago. It was in very, very poor condition then so probably even worse now. Very few stones left that are readable as the cows have had run of the area. Not sure how to go about getting it restored as it is on private property although I think belongs to a cousin of mine. Any thoughts on that I'd be interested in hearing.

I would like to correct your statement concerning Valentine Fackler, b. abt 1790. He is not the son of Wendel Fackler and Anna Christina Ranck. I have incontravertible evidence that he was the oldest son of John George Fackler, the first son of Wendel and Christina Fackler. I am also descended from a son of George Fackler and have been doing documented research for over 30 years on the Wendel Fackler families. I now have PDF files of the Estate files of George Fackler, b. 27 Feb 1767, d. 7 Aug 1820, in which Valentine signed for his portion of his father's estate. I also have a photo of Valentine Fackler and his wife Elizabeth Simmons Fackler. I seriously question the assumption that Wendel Fackler came from Switzerland. If you have authentic documentation for this I would like to see it. Much of the data on Wendel I have found is family hearsay which can be notoriously mis heard and misstated. Look forward to your verification.

Harry Fockler
hfockler@aol.com

Solomon Fackler and Sarah were marrried Sept. 5, 1867 Vol.009 page 600. Try Richland Co.,Ohio message board. Maybe someone would look up the marriage and maybe their parents are listed. Its a start.

Don't know if you still read the posts, but here goes a bit of information about me and my link to the Facklers. My name is Gayle (Dillon) Glick, My mother was Lois (Shaulis) Dillon, my grandmother was Thelma (Fackler) Shaulis, and her parents were Martin & Minnie (Mock?) Fackler.

All were in the Toledo, or NW Ohio area. I've found the 1870 US Census, Richmond Township, with Mortie (sp?) Fackler at age 1, son of Phillip and Olivia Fackler. I think this is the same person. It seems the family consisted of Jonas Fackler, Sons Daniel(wife Elizabeth), Abram (wife Nancy), Phillip (wife Olivia). Daniel, Jonas and Abram all list place of birth as Peru.

I'm new at this, but it seems to match what I know of the family line. Are we related? I saw the post about the Fackler Reunion in Ohio. Have you been?
