I recently got a letter from a man in France that is working on several of his Fechter/Factor lines. I am passing this information on in case any of you descend from the Fechter/Factor family from this area of Alsace-Lorraine.
My Factor family came from Stundwiler, Lower Rhine, Alsace-Lorraine, France in 1840 and settled in Coshocton Co., Ohio. I have a text file of my lineage of Factors and 2 families that I don't know how they connect. I tried to attach the file, but apparently the Message Board only wants to have pictures attached. If anyone is interested just e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
and ask for the FACTOR2.doc dfile. I weill be glad to pass it on to anyone interested. I really hope that there might be someone out there that can add to what I already have.
Jean-Luc Fechter also sent me a file with sources and family information. The problem is that it's in French (and some German). I have deciphered it the best that I can, but I know I won't be able to get everything from it since I used a transcriber program and that's never the best way to do it. But, since I can't read either language, that was my only choice.
I have this file also if anyone wants a copy. This is what Jean-Luc has compiled in the past 10 years of his research of the Fechter/Factors near his home in Oberroedern, Fr. He is very interested in the members that immigrated from their homeland.
If you have any Factors from Coshocton Co., OH or Brown Co., IL. you will want to take a look at my File. Other family names I have are Walter(s), Aschbacher, Schonen, Wagner, Guinther, McCarty, McCloud, Straub, Laube, Kelinger, Morgan, Mullen, Bosley, Wineman(Weinman?), Schugh, Hill, Cooper, Erman, Parsons, Lewis, Roan(e), McDonald, Diss, Miller, Huffman, Rothaus, Kincaid, Erler, Strausser, Pollock, Fell, Clark, Peffer (Pfeffer), Gause, Bracht, Elder & Michnewitsch.
Of course, these names are the surnames that married into the Factor family. I don't have them all researched. I do have more on the names Erman & Parsons.
Here is the letter from Jean-Luc Fechter:
DEAR COUSIN LAURA AND TO ALL FACTOR'S
MY NAME IS JEAN-LUC FECHTER, LIVING IN OBERROEDERN ALSACE FRANCE. I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN GENEALOGY FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS.I HAVE 4 FECHTER LINES IN THE USA OR I SHOULD SAY WE HAVE, AND THE FITH I JUST DISCOVERED RECENTLY AFTER A FEW YEARS OF RESEARCH IS YOUR LINE !
SO THAT'S PROBABLY SOMETHING YOU DID NOT KNOW SO FAR IS THAT YOU HAVE MUCH MUCH MORE FECHTER COUSINS IN THE US.
MATHIAS FACTOR WAS ORIGINALLY BORN FECHTER AND HE EMIGRATED FROM STUNDWILLER (LOWER RHINE) TO THE US WITH HIS FAMILY IN 1840, SOMETHING LIKE APRIL MAY WHERE HE BECAME A FACTOR!. HE WAS A BROTHER TO MY G.G.GRANDFATHER.
I ALSO PLAN TO COME TO THE US IN THE EARLY SUMMER IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE ON THAT BRANCHE. WOULD BE NICE IF WE COULD KEEP IN TOUCH. YOU ALSO CAN CALL ME FOR MORE INFORMATION : 03 88 80 00 56; SATURDAY MORNING OR LATE EVENING WOULD BE A GOOD TIME.
MY BEST TO YOU AND ALL FACTOR'S email@example.com
MY POSTAL ADDRESS:

He has sent to me his compiled sources and other data that is in French and some German. I can't sent it because Message Board won't let you attach a text file.

Thank you so much for reading.
Sincerely, Laura Layton
