Thank you for the information. I am trying to find out info for a friend who doesn't have a computer. Her Dad either doesn't know, or won't talk about his family. The Siegel girls father was married twice, so we are having trouble finding out who his wives were, and which children belong to which wife. Minnie Siegel moved out to Washington state where she married briefly, then died in California. And of course the death records I have found do not list parents!

Hi, Laura--

You're quite correct. Benjamin Factor, son of Benjamin Factor and Catherine Ashbaker was the one who married Margaret Mullen in Brown Co., IL. She was his second wife. First wife Margaret Morgan (1866-1887) is buried at the Catholic Cem. in Brown Co., along with their infant son. He married Margaret MULLEN two years later. I have 6 children listed for them. By the 1920 census they were living in Alton, Madison Co., IL. In 1930 they were living in Wood River Twp., Alton, IL next door to one of their daughters. My records indicate that Benjamin died on 16 March 1937 in McLean Co., IL. I don't have a death date for Maggie, but believe it was probably after 1950. Neither are buried in Brown Co., IL. I've been to Mt. Sterling many times to visit my grandmother and have spent the last 20 years researching the descendants of Patrick Mullen and Sarah Mattingly. Made some good finds, found 'cousins' and hit some brick walls along the way. It's been a wonderful journey so far.

Gayle Jones

I have come across some info which I want to post for the FACTOR branch that went to IL. Benjamin FACTOR who married Catherine ASHBAKER had the following children (this info was in the 1860 Franklin Twp., Coshocton Co., OH Federal Census): (all dates are approx.)
1) George, b. abt. 1851
2) John, b. abt. 1852
3) Benjamin, b. abt 1855
4) Lewis, b. 1857
5) Mary, b. 1858

In addition to these children, they also had the following:
6) Elizabeth, b. 1862
7) Jacob, b. 1863
8) William, b. 1865
9) Andrew, b. 1866
10) Edward, b. 1867
11) Josephine, b. 1870

In the 1880 Brown Co., IL Census, George is listed with wife Sarah J, (BOSLEY) and his brother John.

My line comes down through George's brother Benjamin who married Margaret "Maggie" MULLEN. I hope this info helps someone.

Gayle Jones

Hello again, just wanted to say hi, and let you know that I am still working on Factors...have been out of it for a bit, but saw the posting and wanted you to know that I am starting to research again...By the way, I am from Alton, IL; hope to get to Mt Sterling and visit the cemetery there. Did you find Ben in the 1930 Census?in Illinois? The last info I have is thats where he was when he died. Sometime in the 1930's; I have not found his burial, but one could assume its in Mt Sterling where I understand Maggie, his wife, is buried? This is from my father-in-law and research. His name is Ray Factor; his father Jake son of Benjamin and Maggie Factor. Just wanted to touch base and see if we can share info. Please email me at judithecox@aol.com...thanks!

I'm going to put my 2 cents in here.... My records show that Mathias Factor (b.1895 Alsace-Lorraine,France) and Margaret had a son Benjamin Factor b.1826. He m)Catharina (Katrina) Ashbacker in 1849. Below is the 1880 Census:
Place: Missouri, Brown, Illinois
Benjamin FACTOR 55 b.FRANCE Farmer
Katrina FACTOR 57 b.FRANCE Keeping House
**Benjamin FACTOR 25 b.OH Farmer
Lewis FACTOR 23 b.OH Farmer
Elizabeth FACTOR 18 b.OH At Home
Jacob FACTOR 17 b.OH At Home Andrew FACTOR 14 b. IL At Home William FACTOR 13 b. IL At Home
Edward FACTOR 10 b. IL
Josephene FACTOR 7 b. IL
Their son **Benjamin Factor b.1855 is the only Benjamin in any records that I can find that fits to be the Benjamin that married 30 July 1889 to Margaret MULLEN. I have worked on this line for several years and I believe this is the correct line. I know the dates don't quite match up in the later census reports but I feel the 1880 census is the accurate one.....
Does anyone happen to have a death date for Benjamin b.1855? I don't have any more than a birth and marriage. I just recently found them in Alton, ILL when I was searching for my Brown family there so I haven't yet looked for probate records. Comments welcome!
Thanks, Laura
