I have discovered a few things about the family name...perhaps you all could verify, contradict, or learn or teach me. The Fadness name comes from the farm they tended while living in Voss, Norway. When they arrived in the states they were given the name Fadness because of where they were from. Fadness in Norwegian means "the place where you cross the river". Anybody that resided on the farm was given the name of Fadness. This included hired hands as well as homesteaders that resided on the farm at all. I had grown up under the mistaken assumption that all Fadnesses were related when ij fact the only real bond is that at some point in time our families were farming on the Fadness farm. Knut and family emigrated in 1848 and I am not sure if any of HIS family remained in Norway as it seemed many of them made the journey. I had begun working on the family tree years ago, but due to college and work restraints, I have been unable to continue for the past 10+ years. I have looked infrequently through the web and have seen great strides in the family history and am excited by it all. If anybody would like to share or exchange I would be thrilled. My e-mail is richfdnss@netscape.net. Thank you. Rich FADNESS
