Pastor Arneson- I remember my grandpa talking about his aunt Juiliana. I know my gr-grandma, Mariah Fadness Long was raised Lutheran. Her eldest son (my gpa - Nimrod, said there was trouble with his father E.C. (Eward -given name; Eddie Clark-nickname). Because of that my gpa turned his back on the Lord for awhile. However, he went into the military- The Marines (WWI), where he met a Wesylan Methodist chaplain. My gpa turned his life back over to the Lord. Praise God! He also became a Weslyan Methodist Pastor. He was faithful in sharing the gospel with so many. I am grateful my mama was raised in a Christian home. I am grateful that I was too.
I serve as the Early Childhood Director for Central Lutheran School, in St. Paul, MN. It is my joy to share the Love of Jesus with all of our school children and their families. Where is it that you serve?
I treasure family & faith. After loosing my stepdad (he had been my dad for nearly 40 yrs, my mama, both my in-laws and my husband in less than 18 mo's....I know what it is to treasure life & family. Perhaps this is why finding out all I can about our family history has become so important to me.
My gpa said the his mama died from breast cancer. This is one area I am seeking info on. My mama Marion Louise Long (bd 7/29/28) was the eldest daughter of Rev. Nimrod Kennet Long & Cora Mae 'nee Gilbert Long . She and her youngest sibling Cora Mae Long Burch, both had breast cancer. My mama survived that trial, my Aunt Cora Mae developed breast cancer which then spread to her liver & brain. There are only 3 girls (cousins) in my generation. I think it important to find out all I can about the family medical history. Somewhere along the line, I heard that all of my gpa's sisters also had breast cancer. Are you aware of a high incidence in the Long family?
My Uncle Wesley Long would be your gma's great nephew. He is the oldest sibling and still living. He is 82 I believe. He is a big man and very kind. His heart is strong in the Lord. I met two of my gpa's siblings-his younger sister Francis & his younger brother Robert. I also met Francis' daughter Orpha. I have begun corespondence by internet with another of your first cousins- Patsey out in Yakima WA. She is the last surving child of Mariah's daughter, Lulu. My mama talked so fondly of all of her cousins-even tho they rarely were together.
I have one picture of my gr-grandma-Maria . My sons had to each do a family history project in 6th gr. (They are all in their 20's now.) We have few pictures, so I would love to see what you have! The one pic. I have of "great-grandma" is sorry-rather hideous. She is dressed all in black, with a humungeous hat and quite a solomn face. I asked my mama if she was a happy person. She said her daddy (Nimrod) said his mama was so sweet & loving.
Know, I have heard that there is a Fadness Family Reunion in Springfield, WI. I read that it is located on a farm that remains in the Fadness family. Do you know any details. Have you attended? I would love to go!
Thanks again for your kindness in sharing and replying to my posting so quickly. I am so encouraged! Joy in Jesus- jackie
