Even though my earlier post may not have been seen by you, I thought I would put this up to correct some mistakes in it. Your information about Karl's arrival in the US in 1924 is correct. That's the guy. That stay was temporary, although he started the citizenship process in 1926. He returned to Germany to be part of their 1928 Olympic team, which was at St. Moritz in France. He became a US citizen in 1931.
He was the founder of the Buffalo Ski Club, the Olean Ski Club, the Arlberg (Fish Hill) Ski Club, and the Ellicottville Ski Club, all in the early 1930's, and also led the drive to get the state to build a full-sized 66 meter ski jump in Allegany State Park, which opened in 1935.
He married Lois Reifler on July 2, 1938 in Utah, where he was getting ready to take over duties as the first director of Alta ski resort.
He suffered his major skiing accident in the Harriman Cup Race in March 1941. Sorry for the mistakes in the earlier post. I hope this reaches you.
