Classification: Query
Surnames: MacPhail, Fail
Fail is Scottish. The origins are from the Inverness area of Scotland. At some point down the line Fail's switched from MacPhail, which is Scottish for Son of Paul. I used to be a Fail and my father actually had our name changed back to the original, MacPhail. I have been trying to research it more myself. I know that when immigrants from Ireland and Scotland came to this country their names were often butchered. For some reason I want to say that MacPhail's fled to Ireland and that is where the name changed to Fail?? I am not really sure. Anyone have anything else to share?
