Donna,

My mother is Peggy Fain Hammons, daughter of Paul Joseph Fain, brother of Iris Mildred Fain. Paul's and Millie's parents were Simon Monroe Erastus (S.M.E.) Fain and Margret Lenore Haggard. My grandparents, Paul and Lora Fain owned a grocery store on West van Buren in the 1920's/1930s. My mother was not close to all of the Fains but does have memories of Uncle John, Aunt Grace and Aunt Millie.

I do have info on the Fains and Haggards but no info on Aunt Millie except her birth date , I show she was born on December 21, 1908. From my mother I know that she was married to Jack Dunn and had 2 boys. I will give my mom a call and see what else I can find out. If you are still out there I will share whatever I have.

A website I found extremely helpful was FamilySearch.org.

Carol
My Fain's came to Kentucky from Patrick, County after 1794. In September of 1794, William Fain sold property to John Bototot. Shortly thereafter both a Richard Fain and William Fain show up in Kentucky (Richard in Adair County and William in Jessamine County). Richard Fain witnessess William's Revolutionary War pension application in 1833. William attests that he served with Capt. Eliphas Shelton in the Henry Co. militia and fought at Yorktown. (Patrick Co. split from Henry Co. after the Revolution). His application was rejected because he served less than 3 months. There are so many Richards and Williams in this family it makes my head swim! Are these the same Richard and William that seem to be the sons of William and Judah Fain?? That has always been the assumption, but no proof, so far,. Any info would be appreciated.

Kathleen Bond

Her correct birthdate is September 1, 1883 (Not April 1). There is another person in the family with that birthdate, but it wasn't Arkie.

Thanks.

Kathleen Bond

1910 , 1920, and beyond... several Fain families lived in Civil dist. 3. They lived on Flat Creek Rd. and were immediately adjacent to the Otha Blazer family. On this same road were the Sims families, Burchfiels, and Aileys. The children all attended Sims school which was taught in the Sims Chapel by George Sims, Jr.
I have a picture of the Sims School class probably dated about 1912. If your family may have attended I would like to identify all of the persons in this photo and am happy to share this photo. I am able to identify the Ailey and Blazer children.
My great grandmother was Mary Caldonia Ailey who md Otha M Blazer. Their daughter, Ora Blazer md George Victor Fain.

Nicholas Fain and descendants

Good day to you all!

I'm new to researching genealogy and I'm here hoping to get pointed in the right direction or get some information someone here may have.

Here is my line, for what it's worth:
Nicholas Fain, William Fain, John Samuel Fain, John Andrew J. Fain, Edward Carol Fain, Arthur Franklin Fain, Hugh S. Fain (my grandfather).

Now here are my questions, if you'd be so kind:
1.) I've seen some references where William Fain was also along side his father, Nicholas Fain, at the Battle of King's Mountain, and then at times he's not mentioned? DAR has confirmed William Fain was in the revolution, but I'm not sure how to go about finding specifics, if any are available.
2.) Would anybody have information which would help me link John Samuel Fain and John Andrew J. Fain? I'm unable to find information but have run across information that simply state that John Andrew is the son of John Samuel.
3.) I have run across references stating that John Andrew J. Fain was murdered in 1855 but am not able to find anything else about this. It looks like his children (Edward Carol is from whom I'm descended) moved in with their Aunt and Uncle from their mother's side. I've seen census data about that, but I'm wanting to find more of the story surrounding all of that.

Any help with these questions is much appreciated!

Carl Fain's mother was named Gloria Langston (Deceased 2004). Last I've heard since my Nana (Gloria) passed away that Simon Fain lived in Panama City long time ago. So please if somebody knows anything about Simon Fain's family tree let me know because It will bring closure for me & I can finally meet my father's side of the family that he never knew exist.

Georgia Fains...came from Arkansas

I am like a thrid generation Fain from Georgia. But I think I might have came from some Fain's in Arkansas. I'm not 100% sure though. My grandfather is Clifford Fain, and I'm really not sure who his father is. I'm just getting into this geneology thing. If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Nicholas Fain and descendants

Hi
I am from the same branch of the family. My grandfather was William Carroll Fain, Sr, son of Edward Christenberry Fain.

According to R. Plennie Fain,"In the late 1850's Andrew was murdered by a doctor, who was drunk. The man was angry because his clothing was not ready. Andrew was a tailor, when I was small I recall seeing the long narrow heating iron that he used to press the cloth....When Andrew Jackson, Sr was murdered the children had to be placed among relatives. Edward C. was about 5 years old and grew up with his grandfather, Elisha Philips. When about 12 or 13 years old, Sherman's soldiers came through the countryside. They tried to make Grandmother Philips tell where her silver was hidden. When she refused they placed her fingers between the split-rail fence and broke them. She still did not tell. Then they poured molasses into a feather bed and rolled her in it. She never told. Edward was chased by a soldier on a horse into a corn field. The corn stalks had been put together like an Indian tepee. Grandfather, being small of statue, darted among them and hid in one. The soldier using a bayonet on the end of his gun tried to flush him out, but failed. I,with my Father and Uncle Jack, as a small child, was shown these places and spent one night on the place with them, the original house was gone, but the schooner wagon was there by a spring that had and still was used to provide water."
Edward's died June 2, 1870 and is buried at Campobello United Methodist Church in NC.

Lorena Fain

I am trying to find the identity of Lorena Fain. I have a letter addressed to my grandmother Marie Riddle Cook in 1969. My guess in Lorena Fain would have been born about or shortly before 1900. Connections are Arkansas and Oklahoma. A brother of Marie Riddle Cook was Thell Riddle. He married a Pauline Fain, but I can make no other connection.

rsignett@comcast.net
