The rumor I have indicates that a William Beaumont or Crosslands area changed his name to William Fairbanks (Fayerbanke) in 1480, which, of course, must remain a rumor until someone finds acceptable documentation of the whole tidbit.

Since many Beaumonts almost simultaneously fell in disfavor with King Henry, was there some sort of mass name change from Beaumont to Fayerbanke by the dozens or even hundreds? It seems that many Fairbanks suddenly popped up out of nowhere.

Jonathan Fairbanks was born in Sowerby, Halifax and migrated in 1633, and began building the Fairbanks house in 1634; today it is a museum of the Fairbanks Family of America, Inc..
