I happened on your reply to Meccalynne on Rootsweb Message boards, and thank you for your research.

Jason Fairbanks, born 17 Sep 1796 in the South Parish of Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts, died bef 1850 at Randolph, Norfolk, Massachusetts, was son of David Fairbanks, born 22 Jan 1755 Dedham, died 7 Sep 1801 South Parish and Lydia Fales, born 1758 Walpole, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Jason was the youngest of 6 children.

David Fairbanks was son of John Fairbanks, born 9 Dec 1718 in the old Fairbanks House in Dedham, died 25 Oct 1794 in Dedham and Mary Whiting, born 22 Feb 1713/1714 Dedham, died 21 Nov 1798 in Dedham.

John Fairbanks was son of Joseph Fairbanks, Jr, born 26 Apr 1687 Dedham, died abt 1754 Dedham and Abigail Deane, born 12 Jun 1694 Dedham, died 31 Dec 1750 Dedham. Mary Whiting was daughter of Nathaniel Whiting, born 23 Sep 1688 Dedham, died 17 Aug 1771 Dedham and Joanna Ellis, born 18 Sep 1689 Dedham, died 3 Sep 1773 Dedham. Mary Whiting married 1st, Isaac Lewis, by whom she bore 8 children.

Joseph Fairbanks, Jr was son of Deacon Joseph Fairbanks, born 10 May 1656 Dedham, died 14 Jun 1734 Dedham, and Dorcas Freeman, born 1662 Dedham, died 9 Jan 1738 Dedham. Abigail Deane was daughter of John Deane, born abt 1639/1640 of Taunton, Taunton District, Devonshire, England, died 28 Jul 1670 Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, and Sarah Edson, born 1642 Salem, Essex, Massachusetts, died 18 Feb 1717 in Taunton. Nathaniel Whiting was son of Timothy Whiting, born 5 Jan 1653/1654 Dedham, died 26 Dec 1728 Dedham, and Sarah Bullard, born 7 Jan 1658/1659 Dedham, died 1732. Joanna Ellis was daughter of Joseph Ellis, born 1 Oct 1666 Dedham, died 25 Mar 1752, and Mary Graves, born 1668 Dedham, died 7 Feb 1713 Dedham.

I could go on, but that points the research straight. I know this is not your lineage, nor is it mine, but the grandparents of Deacon Joseph Fairbanks were Jonathan Fairbanks and Grace Smith who came to America in 1633 and founded the Fairbanks home in Dedham who were my 9th great grandparents.

joe fairbanks

Yes, I've heard of the book by Fairbanks. Matter of fact, I have a copy of his 1455-1897,but my Rufus is the missing link. He married Melissa Shumway and they had a daughter and I believe Melissa died a few months after her birth. I know nothing about Lorenzo. I don't know if he was a brother to Rufus or a Uncle. I've been looking for over 20 years for my Lorenzo and what the connection was. I've thought about getting the other books, but the author passed away a few years ago. So, you are from England. You are my first contact across the water :) Someone once told me that all Fairbanks were related in some way, but I'm not sure I understand that. Thank you for getting the council to approve the material on remembering our ancestry. That is so wonderful. Thank you for writing back. :)

Bonnie

Not often a message appears but I am not sure if we have been in touch before.
I live in Halifax, Yorkshire England and have visited Dedham and they gave me a copy of the Fairbanks Genealogy by Lorenzo Sayles Fairbank so know the names of Lorenzo, Rufus and Harrison [ Doctor ]
By a co-incidence another Dedham family was the FISHER's and 2 descendants married Halifax men, one grand daughter is visiting from California, with her grand daughter, on Friday and I will show them a housing development in Sowerby Bridge named Fairbanks, that I managed to get our local council to agree to give it this name in honour of the emigrants from here.

If you email me I will give you his email address that I have.
My Gr.grandfather Arthur Fairbanks was born March 1872 in Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire and died April 18, 1923 in a mining accident in Hensley, W.V. He married Johnnie Emory Phillips in Bell County, Kentucky on May 3, 1906. They had 7 children. We can't seem to find his parents. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you so much for letting me know who was in the photo. I knew something wasn't right when I found out that William Jr. and Ellen were married about 7 years after my gr-gr-grandmother Ella was born. I had no idea that Farney's were in my family. Is there any other information you could give me about the Farney's and the Fairbanks' or possibly photo's of the families. I didn't know until now that Ella had a sister. I though she was an only child because she was the only one my father spoke about. He was only 14 when she died so that could explain him not knowing also. My dad is actually Daniel Mallon, Larry was his oldest brother. He also has a brother Richard and sister Connie. They live in Arizona and my dad lives in Carthage. I can't wait to hear back from you.

P.S.
I am sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you and your family are doing well.

William is one of many children of Zaccheus Fairbanks and Martha Gates of Antrim, NH. He is listed in Lorenzo Sayles Fairbanks book as being married to Hannah Colburn and "removing" to Cranston, RI. This is corroborated by the 1850 Census record for Cranston.

According to this same record, William and Hannah had four children -- William A., Newton P., Oliver and Lucy. William E. died sometime between 1850 and 1860 -- probably closer to 1850 since Hannah was remarried to Richard Fairclough and living in Paterson, NJ for the 1860 census.

Lucy Fairbanks Milnes was my great great grandmother. I have discovered that Newton died in the Battle of Wilson's Creek in Missouri in 1861 at the start of the Civil War. He does not appear to have any descendants. Oliver became a photographer in Paterson and it looks like he never married or had children either.

I am looking for anyone who might know what happened to the oldest son, William A. Fairbanks. He has born about 1833 in (Antrim?) New Hampshire according to the 1850 census but he did not go to Paterson, NJ with his mother and I can't find him on any other census after 1850.

I would also like to know if anyone from the Cranston, RI area has seen a headstone in a cemetery for William E. Fairbanks. His birth date is April 17, 1806 and he died after 1850 but before 1860. I would like to know the name (or number) of the cemetery.

I would also like to hear from anyone else who is descended from William and Lucy Fairbanks Milnes. William and Lucy lived in Paterson, NJ during the height of the silk industry there. Paterson was known as "Silk City" at that time. They raised seven children there. William, Lucy, Lucy's mother Hannah Colburn Fairbanks Fairclough, and William's brother Henry and his family are buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.

Christie, I will be happy to tell you the people in the 2nd photo although for the most part they are not who you thought. First off, I fit into the family tree in Larry Mallen's (your dad?) generation. My grandma Frances Fairbanks Farnan is the sister of your g.grandma Ella Fairbanks Wilson.
The pic. shows L-R: Ellen Brownell Fairbanks, Pearl Farnan, William Fairbanks Jr. Frances Fairbanks Farnan & husband Jim Farnan. Our lineage is through William's 1st wife Frances Farney of Carthage who died 3 weeks after giving birth to my grandma.
FYI my husband died recently so my attention might be elsewhere & my reply slow re. genealogy but if I were you, I'd want to know "yesterday"! I'll share more later.
Elaine Farnan Hall

I have all the information concerning the Dowker's as they came to Canada from Yorkshire England in 1830 and then moved on down into Michigan from there. My Father's (Donald LeRoy Dowker) father, John Albert Dowker, was born in Flint, Michigan in 1879 but only him and his younger brother, David were born in the US - all his older brothers and sisters were born in Ontario, Canada. I got this information from my Aunt Grace Dowker Clum and from others who were also related to the Dowker's by marriage. If anyone else needs this information too, please let me know and I'll get it right out. My ancestry list of my leg of the Dowker family goes back to the William Dowker who was born in Settrington, Yorkshire England married Elizabeth Frear in 1654.

Fairbanks family connection

My name is Paul Allchorne and I have been researching my Allchorne family tree for quite a while now, and have found that I have a connection to the Fairbanks family history. How I am connected to the Fairbanks family history is through Jane Allchorne and Frederick Hills. Here is the connection in its most basic form.

Jane Allchorne (b. 1827 d. 1890) m Frederick Hills (b.1825 d. 1911) and had 11 children (Edith, Mary Ann, Frederick, Agnes, Emma Elizabeth, George, Alice Annie, Thomas Holland, Walter Nephi and Jane Laura)

Emma Elizabeth Hills (b. 1858) m John Thomas Walker (b. 1857) and it is through this marriage that I found the connection to the Fairbanks family.

Emma and John had a son William Frederick (b. 1885, Farmington Utah) who married Alicia May Simmons (b. 1887, Payston, Utah) on October 9th 1907 and Salt Lake City. Alicia May Simmons mother was Alicia Fairbanks (b. 1860)

Alicia Simmons (b. 1860) is the daughter of John Boylston Fairbanks (b. 1817) and Sarah Vanwagoner.

I know that I have left out quite a bit of information but I am hoping that the information that I have provided matches somebody's family tree. If it does please email me directly as I would love to hear more about this family.

My email is paul dot allchorne at yahoo dot co dot uk

I look forward to hearing from you soon

Regarding Mary 'Polly' Fairbanks born May 1807 in Parsonsfield, Maine and wife of Lemuel Green, how is the death date of 11/30/1865 at Seneca, WI determined?
Susa (Susanna Fairbanks m. David Warren 1808 in MA

Looking for documentation on this family. Susa (or Susanna) was a daughter of Joseph Fairbanks, III who died in 1784 when he fell from a church steeple. This is according to the Fairbanks book. Susa was only 8 at the time. Joseph was the son of another Joseph Fairbanks, who was a Captain in the Revolution. Capt. Joseph Fairbanks died in 1802 in Harvard, MA. I have found a Susanna Fairbanks married a David Warren in 1808 in the same town in Massachusetts. I have traced my Warren tree back to a Walter Warren who was born in 1814 in Shirley, MA. I believe he was a son of David and Susa Fairbanks Warren, but I am trying to find proof. Walter ended up in Yates county, NY. He married a Hannah Fisher and had one daughter (my ggg-grandmother) and one son. Does anybody have these names in their tree?

Altana and Emma Fairbanks

Emma, born 1863 and Altana born 1852 to Nelson John Fairbanks and Amanda Terrell Fairbanks, probably in Georgetown, Madison Co, NY. Nelson John enlisted and died during the Civil War. Amanda is buried in Lisle, Broome Co, NY. I can find no mention of either child after the 1860 Federal Census of Georgetown, Madison Co, NY. Would anyone have any information at all that might help me find them?
Caleb Sr. is my GrGrGrGrGrGr grandfather. Here is how I am connected. 6th great grandfather Caleb Sr.-5th great grandfather Caleb Jr.-4th great grandparents William Sr. & wife Sarah- 3rd great grandparents William Jr. & wife Ellen Brownell- 2nd great grandparents Ella Fairbanks Wilson & husband Wilbur Wilson- great grandparents Hazel Wilson LaRoche & ex-husband William Johnson - grandparents Arlene Johnson Mallon & husband Edward P. Mallon- my father-then me.

I live in Watertown,NY. I've lived in Jefferson County my entire life, I have been researching my family for four years but have only recently started to find info. I don't know anything about the Fairbanks family but do have two photos. In the file I attached with the two women sitting on the car, I believe the young woman sitting is my Gr Gr grandmother Ella, I think the woman next to her is her mother Ellen. The man with the white mustache may be Ella's father William Jr. The other two pictured may be Ella's uncle Jefferson Brownell and his second wife Rachael. I would love to receive more photos and possibly info on where some fairbanks relatives may be buried around here.

kayedowker
If your Rachel question was directed towards me, I don't think they are the same one. Although I haven't found out her maiden name, I do know her married name was Brownell. She was born somewhere around 1867. She married Jeffersin Brownell somewhere between 1900 and 1910. They were still together at least until 1930. I haven't found out when they died and if they maybe got divorced and she remarried. That's unlikely though because they both were in their early to mid 60's in the 1930 census. Sorry I couldn't help you.

kps46635
I will definitely contact you although now I have no time because it's near 1am now. I am very interested to find out more on the Fairbanks' history. The night after I posted my message on here I was able to find online where Caleb Sr. is buried somewhere in St. Lawrence county. There is a local website www.nnygenealogy.com that I found a bunch of Fairbanks' on but I didn't know who they were and how they may be related. I look forward to hearing from you.

I just noticed your post on ancestry.com. I was just wondering if my Great-Aunt Rae (Rachel) Harder might be a relative of yours, by marraige, of course. Aunt Rae was my Grandfather's (John Albert Dowker) older sister and because I was only 9 years old when she died, and 10 years old when he died, I was never able to get any of this information directly from them. My Great-Aunt Rae (1 December 1877 - 12 February 1967) was 2 years older than my grandfather, (21 February 1879 - 7 May 1967), but I believe I still remember her somewhat. It's just that all I know about the Fairbanks family is that my grandfather's grandfather William Dowker, was married to Nancy Fairbanks, who I think was originally from Rhode Island, Massachusetts or New York, I can't be sure which. Her father was Caleb Fairbanks, and her mother was Nancy Ann Albertson, but I didn't know anything beyond that. She may have had a brother named Caleb but I can't be sure just yet. I am so sorry that I can't be of any further assistance, but that is all I've been able to find so far.
