AVOCA/COHOCTON, N.Y. — Warren L. Fairbrother, 87, passed away Saturday morning (March 5, 2011) at the Bath Veterans Center Nursing Home, after a long illness.
Born on March 19, 1923,
Warren was a World War II veteran in the 38th Evacuation Regiment of the United States Army.
A resident of the Avoca-Cohocton area for most of his life, he was employed as a potato farmer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lee and Marie Fairbrother; his brothers, Donovan Fairbrother of Plant City, Fla., and Marcus Fairbrother of Wallace.
Surviving are his son, Zane Fairbrother of Cohocton; his daughter, Sandra Atkins of Bath; his five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Paul Fairbrother of Cohocton, and Jack Fairbrother of Bath; his four sisters, Laura Mehlenbacher of Cohocton, Juanita Hansen of Dundee, Pat Kimball of Atlanta, and Phyllis Mehlenbacher of South Lima.
There will be no calling hours.
Committal services, with full military honors, followed by interment, will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at Bath National Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Hamblin, chaplain, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Finger Lakes Humane Society, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, N.Y. 14810-8312.
