Also, I'm beginning to research the Johnsons from that area. From everyone I talk to and all the names from the Robeson County and other counties in the area, everyone is connected by marriage or etc. It is very hard to reason because of the multiple marriages and marriages with cousins and marriages with same last names.

Hi
I am also looking for Edward Faircloth - and his (supposed) brother Joseph born 1807 also in Canterbury. They are proving very elusive!

I found who I think is Edward, aged about 25, in the 1841 census - living in Margate with a Joyce and James Holoway - as a male servant; either theirs or that was his job.
In the 1851 census he is married to his first wife Elizabeth and is a laborer. They have 2 children, Caroline and Richard.
I can't find him in the 1861 census - but in the 1871 census he is living with his second wife Mary Ann and their 6 children including 7 year old Mary Anne, your great great Grandmother.
I hope this is some help to you

Regards Teecozy

I found a Thomas Spell in early Tarboro History. Thomas was a tobacco merchant. He was born in 1714. John Spell was his son. John's son Lewis married Moriah Faircloth. I trace my roots through Lewis' son John, and John's son Lewis to William Spell (born in 1842). William was my grandfather's father.

Could this be part of the family you are tracing? Not sure if I picked up all the correct threads.

I am just beginning my search and starting with my grandfather Charles Jennings Faircloth, born in North Carolina- I believe in Stedman. His father's name was Walter. (mother possibly Gertrude). He was in the service in Hawaii, also lived in Virginia and eventually moved to Massachusetts with wife Vera and 4 daughters. He had a brother William King Faircloth who also lived in Massachusetts, and a sister Clara Proctor. His father's sister was Jennybelle Faircloth. Charles retired in Florida where he died in 2000.

Edward Faircloth

I have some tentative information that I may be descended from one Edward Faircloth and his wife Abigail Harrison, daughter of Isaac and Judea Harrison. Edward was born about 1760 in Pasquotank County and died 1801-1810 in Camden County, NC. It is believed that he had a daughter, Rosanna, who was my 3rd great grandmother. It would seem that Abigail Harrison would have been born about 1765 give or take a few years, and that her parents Isaac and Judea were probably born in the 1740's. Does anything sound familiar?

Nancy Shire

I agree with the anger that can be felt from post like that. However the records that I have found all show my oldest 3 relatives (ll faircloths) coming from Warrington and Chorly Lancashire England.

It is fact that by the 1600's that Native americans were not as a whole in the colonies, but like america now, was partially a mixed population. It may be that some of them married native americans. But that would have been after coming here. The fact is, We are from England, plain and simple.

Arthur, Amos James Faircloth was my paternal grandfather. I recently decided to end the mystery about his father and ordered a copy of his death certificate. It states that Amos James Faircloth's father was, in fact, John R. Faircloth and his mother was Lizzie Coleman. I have found several sources showing John R. Faircloth's father was Alexander but have not confirmed that with reliable sources yet. Jack could have been John R's nickname. ??
I am researching my ggg grandfather, Sanford Wilkerson/Wilkinson born around 1864 in GA (married my ggg grandmother, Matilda Starling) and stumbled upon the name Sophia Faircloth. In the 1880 census, Sanford's mother, Elizabeth Wilkinson(born 1848?) had Sophia Faircloth listed as her mother. I was wondering if Elizabeth Wilkinson might be the Sarah Elizabeth Wilkinson who married Daniel D. Faircloth and if so, why the census says that she was a widow and why her name is still Wilkinson and not Faircloth. If someone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.
