CHARLESTON — Virgil O. Faires, 76, of Charleston died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Willington, Texas. He was a World War II Army veteran, retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing Co., and was a member of Charleston First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Freewill Baptist Church in Charleston with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary Inc. of Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Genell; seven daughters, Linda Bailey of Midland, Sandra Barnhill of Texas, Terri Hayami and Beverly Atkins, both of Hawaii, Teresa Shelton of Missouri, Pam Erp of Van Buren, and Angie Acord of Fort Smith; three sons, Virgil Faires Jr. of Pittsburg, Texas, Johnny Faires of Hackett, and Terry Collier of Charleston; two sisters, Wanda Vowell of Charleston and Weda Bailey of Oak Grove, Mo.; a brother, Roy Faires of Fayetteville; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bagwell, Mike Ramsey, Rick Jeffcoat, John and Gary Edgmon, Charles Bohannan, Robert Vowell and Dean Meyers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the WiseMen Sunday school class at First Freewill Baptist Church.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
