Chester County Pennsylania(USA) 1774

Middletown lists Nicholas Fairlamb with 200 acres and Frederick Fairlamb with 180 acres and Samuel Fairlamd with a tan yard and as a tanner. A few years later in 1781 only Nicholas is on the tax roles with 172 arces. Anyone related? A newly found ancestor and a chart lists Nicholas as the father of Hannah Fairlamb who marrried John Hurford. Nicholas is listed as a member of the Assembly in 1712 and 1713 from Chester County. And the Crosby history says Richard and Eleanor Crosby's daughter, Catherine married Nicholas Fairlamd in 1703. I'd like to know if there are any source documents?

FAIRLAM in London - help needed!

Hello,

Verbal family history has it that our FAIRLAM branch are connected to the Allendale FAIRLAMB family, but I am having trouble finding the connection, and would appreciate any help available.

My earliest Fairlam, Richard FAIRLAM lived in London as a wine & spirit merchant & victualler. He married Mary THORNTON in 1800, and had a son, Richard Wilcox FAIRLAM, who married Mary Ann SHEPHEARD in 1826, and died in 1848. Although I have found quite a bit of information of Richard the elder (mainly from the National Archives site) I can find no real evidence of his birth, parents or siblings.

So, was Richard FAIRLAM born in London, and if so, to which Fairlam? Or was he part of the northern FAIRLAMBs, who went to London to make his fortune ?? I am stumped !

If anyone knows of a migration of Fairlam/b families from up north to London, I'd love to hear.

Thanks for reading,

Jane Eliza
great great great great grandaughter of Richard Fairlam, of London.

Hi David - here's my Fairlamb family...

1. RICHARD FAIRLAMB d. 1746 Slaley

2. i. JOSEPH FAIRLAMB, b. 1718, d. 1772, both in Slaley
married MARGARET ROBSON 30 May 1742 in Slaley
ii. ANN FAIRLAMB b. 1725
iii. SARAH FAIRLAMB b. 1727

Children of JOSEPH FAIRLAMB and MARGARET ROBSON
3. i. THOMAS FAIRLAMB b. 1744 Slaley
ii. HANNAH FAIRLAMB b. 1745 Slaley
iii. ELIZABETH FAIRLAMB b. 1747 Slaley
iv.RICHARD FAIRLAMB, b. 1749, Slaley
v. JOSEPH FAIRLAMB, b. 1752, Slaley - married MARGARET ASQUITH - 18 November 1773 in Wolsingham, Co Durham, daughter of JONATHAN ASQUITH and JANE.

Children of JOSEPH FAIRLAMB and MARGARET ASQUITH
4. i. MARY FAIRLAMB, b. 1775, Wolsingham, Durham.
ii. MATTHEW FAIRLAMB, b. 1777, Wolsingham, Durham.
iii. MARGARET FAIRLAMB, b. 1783, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.
iv. JOSEPH FAIRLAMB, b. 1785, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.
v. JONATHAN FAIRLAMB, b. 1788, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.
vi. ADDY FAIRLAMB, b. 1789; d. 1855, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham - ADDY FAIRLAMB married THOMAS KNAGGS 26 May 1818 in Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.

I would guess that we could probably tie in both families - and then connect them to the Allendale Fairlambs if we could get back far enough! I've included all offspring I know of - but no William Fairlambs to be seen anywhere.. yet. I won't be doing any Fairlamb research until my next trip up to the North East, but if I find anything I'll let you know.

I now have more information. I know that my Great (x4) Grandfather was a man named William Fairlamb who lived in Salton, North Yorkshire until he died in 1885 at the ripe age of 94. He was born in Aydon, Northumberland. He, his children and grandchildren lived in Salton for almost 75 years before moving back to Kirk Merrington, Co. Durham.
A search of Northumberland Archives has shown that a William Fairlamb was baptised in Corbridge parish in 1795 (which is made up of Aydon, Corbridge, Dilston, Thornborough and Little Whittington) and which I guess isn't a million miles from Slaley or the Allendale Fairlambs of which there is a lot published on the internet. William Fairlamb was the also the son of William (the repetitiveness of the name doesn't help!!) and Mary Fairlamb who also had 2 other children Joseph (baptised 10/01/1790), Thomas (baptised 17/04/1791(another name that repeats itself through my family tree.)
My aim now is to connect this branch of the family to the Allendale Fairlambs who can go back to about 1600 with Nicholas Farlem!
I did pick up some information on Joseph & Mary Fairlamb of Slaley. They had a son Thomas who was baptised on 04/03/1744.

Any information you have would be useful.
Hi David,
My Great Grandfather was Joseph Fairlamb Knaggs (1867-1921), grandson of Thomas Knaggs and Addy Fairlamb (b 1791 in Chester-le-Street). Her father Joseph Fairlamb (b. 1752 in Slaley, Northumberland) married Margaret Asquith (18/11/1773 in Wolsingham, Co. D). His father (Joseph b 1718) and grandfather (Richard) were also from Slaley. Does this ring any bells with you? I have some info on these families if that helps you.
