Miriam Jean Shahan

Miriam Jean (Faler) Shahan, 77, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Shahan was born Aug. 21, 1926, in Oak Park, Ill., to Leon D. and Maurrine E. (Hodge) Faler. She was a school secretary at St. Ann's School for 12 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Ann's Church for 43 years and a member of the board for the Northwest Community Development Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Randolph Shahan.
Her survivors include three children, daughter, Stephanie Eads and companion, Butch Morrow, Independence, son, Kent Shahan and wife, Sandra, Lone Jack, and daughter, Jennifer Wittmers and husband, Frank, Nixa, Mo.; two sisters, Shirley E. Perryman, Dayton, Ohio, and Susan Douglas and husband, David, Albuquerque; an aunt, Dorothy Faler, Overland Park; her grandchildren, Jeannie (Bonnie) Eads, Randy (Harold) Eads, (Darlene) Dolly Bates, Annette Morrow, Micaiah Shahan, Dalton Shahan, Andrew Wittmers, Anastasia Wittmers; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Sugar Creek. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
