Kccathe,
I do not have Ancestry.com and therefore cannot contact you directly.
I am Charles hendrik Kamerik. I am Membership Chair and Treasurer of the Fales Family Association of America. We have been mostly researching the Northern Fales Line. DNA has shown that there is a direct link between the Southern Fail(s) and the Northern Fales. We are most interested in learning all we can about the Southern branch of the family. I have had some contact with Mark Fales in North Carolina.
Please contact me directly. cvhkamerik@aol.com and use the name fales in the subject line.
Respectfully,
Charles hendrik Kamerik

Fales-Vail DNA match

There have been a couple of Y-DNA matches between descendants of Jeremiah Vail (b. ca. 1618, England?, d. 1687, Southold, Long Island) and James Fales (b. ca. 1630, England?, d. 1708, Dedham, MA). Y-DNA is passed on exclusively in the male line and is thus useful for tracing male-line descent. The haplogroup is I2a (formerly known as I1b).

Two descendants of Jeremiah Vail have matched each other, one descended through Jeremiah's son Jeremiah (results and pedigree available online at smgf.org; registration required) and the other through Jeremiah's son John (private communication to me).

These Jeremiah Vail results match those of two descendants of James Fales (results and pedigrees also at smgf.org) and two other Fales whose deeper ancestry is unknown; one is from Wilmington, North Carolina (both at ysearch.org). One of the James Fales descendants is through James' son James and the other through James' son Peter.

The fact that the matches are through separate sons of the immigrant ancestors is a good sign that the results are a valid reflection of the Y-DNA signature of the immigrants.

The strong possibility of a close relationship between the two families should be kept in mind by future researchers.

Richard M. Wilson

Kala,
There is no mention of Sarah and her family in Thomaston in this source. However, her brothers and their families are mentioned in Thomaston Maine. That is the line from which I come from. So, if Sarah is your relative, we are distantly related.

The John Thomas Fales book is in several libraries, but not sure which one is closest to your location.

Check out www.Fales.org to see the Fales Family Association to learn more about our organization and where John's book can be found. Currently, his book is out of print, but reproductions can be obtained from an independent source. Contact me directly at jerrybloom@fales.org for details.
Jerry

Re: Peter Fales IV and second wife Judith Cole

Charles, I would indeed like to have the Fales Family Association's official list of the children of Judith Cole Fales, and I can send you, and any other descendants, info on Judith's ancestors.

In Ernest Byron Cole's 1908 book, The Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth, p. 93, he lists the 4th child of Nehemiah Cole and Judith Pierce: Judith Cole, b. _____; m. Peter Fales. No more info.

I see on RootsWeb Family Trees and Ancestry's OneWorldTree that Judith Cole is consistently identified as the Judith Cole who is listed in E.B. Cole, p. 107, b. 24 July 1788, the daughter of Nathaniel Cole and Nancy Anthony. That Judith m. (1) Robert Vaughn and (2) David Jacobs, and she d. 28 Jan 1833, place unknown but probably in MA [E.B. Cole, p. 163]. Somehow many submitters show the Judith who m. Peter Fales also marrying Robert Vaughn and David Jacobs, while missing her 1833 death date!

Unfortunately, the needed vital records for Randolph, Norfolk Co., MA, where Robert Vaughn and David Jacobs lived, are not online at NewEnglandAncestors.com or Ancestry.com. However, E.B. Cole also included info on Robert and Judith's son, b. after Robert Sr.'s death: Robert Vaughn Jr., his wife Mary Packard, their only daughter Mary J. Vaughn, and her husband Daniel C. Bird. He says "Mrs. Bird was living (1905) in Brockton, Mass." Vital records do list the marriage of Mary and Daniel in 1870, with Mary's parents shown as Robert and Mary. Since E.B. Cole was no doubt in touch with Mary Bird in 1905, I am assuming she knew something about her grandparents and provided him that info.

As many researchers probably know, Peter and Judith Fales are listed on the 1850 census in Trumbull Co., OH, ages 63 and 56, both b. MA. (Judith was not b.in Southington.) That would put Judith's birth date at about 1794. Since their death dates and place of burial, Baptist Hill Cemetery in Southington, Trumbull Co., are listed by most submitters, I'm assuming their gravestones have been found and read--I can't seem to verify that online--but perhaps Judith's birth date is illegible on the gravestone since no one refers to it.

I would like to see Judith Cole restored to her proper family in all these online family trees! But if I'm wrong about her ancestry, I'd love to be corrected.

Thanks,
Pam Thompson

Is anyone on this board a descendant of Peter Fales and Judith Cole who died in Southington, Trumbull Co., OH?

I believe Judith was the daughter of Nehemiah Cole (Nehemiah5, Hugh4, Hugh3, Hugh2, James1) and Judith Pierce.

-- Pam Thompson, revising and updating E.B. The stones are quite worn.
I do not have information on Judith, but I would love to share what I have with some on Judith.
I just looked at the pictures of Peter and Judith's headstones. The graves are well off the road in or near Portage County. It appeared to be on private property today. Both stones are very weathered and covered with moss. Peter's headstone has his first and last name. Judith has just her first name. The is some writing below the names but it was not legible.

Their Champion home has been renovated and looks really great.

Re: Sarah Fales, b. Bradford Ma, 1735

my records show Sarah (Fales) Blanchard was married (2) to Capt. Aaron Brown, son of Boaz 19 Feb 1761 in Littleton, marriage by Rev. Daniel Rogers. Aaron was born there 6 Oct 1723. Their children were Simon, Boaz, Joan, Luther, Rachel and Elizabeth. Note from my source is that Simon not found in Littleton VR and perhaps died young or error as he is not among children ordered out of town with parents in 1775.
These details were from John Thomas Fales book, "The Fales Family: The First Ten Generations in America", c2005, p 44 and documents where he obtained his info on this family.

If I can help further, please respond.
I am looking for a picture of Dr.Alonzo Cartland Fales who practiced & specialized in eye ear & throat medicine in Malden Ma. Does anyone know who & where I could contact to see if there is anything out there.

Here is what I know:
In January of 1897, Alonzo Fales moved and began to practice at Malden in Massachusetts, and became a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society. During these early years Dr. Fales lived on Washington Street as a boarder with a fellow Physician and opened a practice in Room 5 at 76 Pleasant Street.

Cheers,
Doris
