Ordain Fambro, Sr. 74, was born to the union of the late Henry and Jimesta Smith Fambro, Sr. in Clanton (Lomax), Alabama on June 9, 1935. He was the fifth of eight siblings: Horace (d), Maurine (d), Meridean, Henry, Ordain, Earl (d), and twins, Fay & Ray (d). He accepted Christ and was baptized at a very early age. He received his public education through the Chilton County School System (AL).
As a young man, he was very skilled as an avid baseball player and extended his spiritual talents as a gospel vocalist. Ordain married the late Gladys Rebecca Reed Fambro and this union was blessed with his two older children, Ordain Jr. (d) and Debra Gail. He relocated to Detroit, MI in his 20’s and later made Springfield, OH his home.
He was employed over twenty years with Buckeye Metal under the supervision of Elder Henry Fambro, Jr. until his retirement. After retirement, he married Pastor Sheila A. Champion, to this union, one son, Ordain Fambro, III, was born. For over nine years, he delighted himself in and served as a devoted member, deacon, and up keeper of his church, Center of Redemption of Springfield, OH until his health began to fail. He was known to many as a very proud, hardworking, straightforward, simple man with strong views attached to decent common sense, but proudly identified himself by the nickname “The Great Dane”.
Deacon Ordain Fambro made his transition into the presence of God on the afternoon of April 15, 2010 at Springfield Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Ordain, Jr., one grandson, T. Catrell Wright; three brothers, Horace, Ray and Earl Fambro, and one sister, Maurine Crockett. Today we pause to cherish the “memory” but most of all we thank God for a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor, and our constant reminder of God’s goodness, Ordain Fambro, Sr. Standing as his most dedicated mourners are: wife, Sheila A. Fambro, children: two loving and devoted daughters, Debra (Robert) Tinsley of Cleveland, OH and Arlene “Boogie” Fambro of Dayton, OH; two step-daughters, Shawn & Micole Champion, both of Springfield, OH; three sons, Ronnie Crawford of Cincinnati, OH; Ray Roe of Stamford, CT and Ordain “Man-Man” Fambro, III. One ‘Big Brother’, Elder Henry Fambro, Jr. of Springfield, OH to whom he looked up to and deeply respected because of the extended love and care that was shown continuously; two sisters, Meridean Smith and Fay Butler, both of Detroit, MI. A mother-in-law, Betty Champion, two sisters-in-law, Carlene (Iverson) May and Marsha (Robert) Whitacker, both of Springfield, OH; one brother-in-law, Steven Champion of Dayton, OH. A special niece, Patricia (Pierre) Wright, Springfield, OH and a special nephew, Orace Fambro, Detroit, MI. He also leaves to cherish his memories, seventeen (17) grandchildren, six (6) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A special friend, Avery Blair of Springfield, OH.
It is impossible to name everyone whose lives Ordain touched. He carried a special place for each one of you in his heart.
