FANE/MEIKLE marriage

Classification: Query
Surnames: FANE, (Fearn(e), CHILDS, MEIKLE
I’m looking for information about the following Fane and Meikle family.

John B. Meikle. b abt. 1858 in Ireland
Ada Elizabeth Meikle (nee FANE) 1864 – 1897
John B. Meikle b. abt 1890 in London England
Gladys Meikle b. abt. 1896 in London England

On the 1901 British Census, I have a John Meikle, age 11, nephew, born in West Ham London living with my great grandmother, Hannah Wallace (nee FANE) in West Ham. (b. abt. 1890)

The Free BMD shows a registration for a John Boyd Meikle in the March Quarter for 1890 in West Ham. I have not sent for the certificate nor any of the ones mentioned below, so am uncertain of my accuracy.

Again on the 1901 census, I have a Gladys Meikle, age 4, niece living with my great grandmother’s sister, Caroline Eames (nee FANE) in London Colney Hertfordshire where the Fane family originates. (b. 1896/97)
The Free BMD shows a birth in the September Quarter of 1896 in West Ham.

At this point in my research, I had only one unmarried sister for my great grandmother, Elizabeth Ada FANE b. March 28, 1864 in London Colney Herts. Elizabeth Ada is found on early census returns as Ada.

The 1891 British census confirmed this union showing:
John B. Meikle age 33 (b abt. 1858) in Ireland – occupation, clerk
Ada age 27, born (1864) in London Colney Herts.
John B. Meikle age one

The free BMD, shows a death for an Ada Elizabeth Meikle, age 33 in the March Quarter of 1897 in Whitechapel London. If this is my Ada, this means she would have died soon after the birth of Gladys.

I’ve spent hours going through England’s Civil Registrations looking for a marriage for John and Ada with no luck. There is no marriage found in the London Colney Parish records for this couple.

I believe John B. Meikle jr. to be my grandfather’s mysterious “Cousin Jack” whom he grew up with, however family members do not recall his surname.

If this family sounds familiar to you, I’d be pleased to hear from you.

Thank you
