My Charley Fann is buried in Russell Heights Cemetery here in Jackson MO

However the William Benjamin and James Samuel would be Charley's uncles and Jefferson Davis is his father. They would all be brothers to each other.

If I could solve the mystery of William P Fann's father it would be a huge accomplishment

Thanks a lot.

Sandra Dunn Fann

I have recently started doing my husband's family tree. He is Gary Fann, son of Charley Fann, son of Jefferson Davis Fann, son of William P Fann. I have information from William forward. None from William backwards. I would really like to find out who the parents of William P Fann were.

His immediate family is primarily from MO, Arkansas and Tennesee, with some family still living in the Doniphan MO area.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sandra Dunn Fann

FANN-RABON-JONES Family Reunions held in Columbia, Richland Co, SC

I am looking for anyone who attended these family reunions that used to be held each year in Columbia, SC. The RABON connection is through the marriage of Jessie FANN to a RABON.

Specifically, I'd like to get a copy of the family history that was circulated at these events as well as copies of the family trees that used to be hung up.

I am currently engaged in researching the family of Robert Weston JONES for his daughter, our Aunt, who just turned 90y. She remembers going down to Coulmbia for these events but not a lot of the family history or the tree. She very much would like to learn more about her ancestory. Her JONES parents died when she was very young and she, a sister & a brother were raised in an orphange but had contact with her other siblings and family members.

Her family line starting with her parents and going back is this.......
1. Robert Weston JONES + Estella I. GOFF
2. RW JONES parents - Nelson JONES + Ellen Catherine FANN
3. Nothing further for JONES
3. EC FANN's parents - Robert Alexander FANN + Arenia MARSH. Ellen's sister Jessie married Unknown RABON.
4. Nothing further for FANN
4. Arenia MARSH's parents - James MARSH, Jr. + Nellie CARVER -- nothing further on either of these lines.
2. Estella GOFF'S parents - Hickson or Hinson GOFF + Katherine HAWKINS --- nothing further on either of these lines

Is there anybody who attended those family reunions who can help either with obtaining copies of the family history, the family trees that were displayed or adding to the family line information I have here?
I would be interested in more recent generation information for the Grundy Fann Line. My family of Fanns is from a brother of Grundy--Alfred Fann. They were children of Elijah Fann, I believe. Our line is as follows: Elijah had Alfred abt 1831, Alfred married Mary Paulina Hibdon and they had 5 children. John was b. 11 Mar 1853. John m. Mary Elizabeth Gann. They had 5 children. Alfred Hall Fann was born 17 Nov 1886. Alfred m. Hattie (Addie) Elizabeth Drake. They had 9 children. The youngest is Grady Bratton Fann born 6 Aug 1938. He had two sons with his first wife and a daughter with the second wife.
I would love to learn more about Grundy's line. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail.
Thank you,
S. Fann

Thomas Jefferson Fann & Frances Catheryn Shepherd > Lovic Pierce

I've made no progress on the parents of Thomas Jefferson Fann. Since he and Frances Catheryn Shepherd named a son Lovic Pierce, I'm wondering if they go back to the other Lovic/Lovett P. Fann. An information sheet given to me by my ex-husband states that Thomas Jefferson Fann was the son of James Thomas Fann (supposedly born in Ireland, died in Dublin, GA, was a boot and harness maker) and a Cherokee maiden. Siblings included Thomas, Jim Fann (killed by Jim Crow) and Lovett Fann (that headed west). I'm not saying this is concrete, only what was given me. I think Don Fann of Florida, brother of my ex-father-in-law Claude Charles "Bill", did this research and I am trying to confirm it through census and marriage records.

The earliest record I have of Thomas Jefferson Fann is the 1860 census. At that time he is shown in the home of Maulding Tucker, as Thomas Fann, 11, male, white, born in Pulaski. Tucker Maulding, 61, M, W, farming, value of real estate 1200, born in NC. Also in the home are Hannah Maulding, 62, cook and weaver, born in NC; Broncy R. Coley, 31, (F), washer, born in NC; Rufus S. Maulding, 28, farmer, born in Twiggs. I still need the census information for 1900 and then I will have him covered throughout his life.

According to census and other information, Thomas and Frances had the following children:
Mary Laura born about 1869
Winnifred born about 1871
Anie I., born about 1873
Virginia born about 1875
James Robert born about 1876
Dallas born about 1878
Lovic Pierce born April 25, 1880 (later moved to FL)
John Daniel born April 9, 1890
Sarah Frances born Oct 11, 1893
Emmie

There is a record of a Thomas Fann being the coroner of Laurens County with an ending date of 1910. Since Thomas Jefferson Fann died in 1910, I am assuming this could be him. In the 1910 census, his occupation was listed as farmer, so the coroner could be someone else.

I'm open to suggestions and ideas how to proceed. Please reply or contact me directly at Susdenfann@aol.com.

I just noticed your posting on the message board and may be able to help a little. My mother-in-law, Pansy Hylton Sisk from Mullens, WV; is the sister of Beulah Fann.
Pansy is 88 years old and is still living.
Beulah had children named Pete (living), Dave (living), Bobby (living), Margaret Fann Johnson (living) and I am not sure if there are any more or not. Beulah was the daughter of James Henry Hylton (who is buried in the Spruce Grove Cememtary at Basin, WV) and Anna Elizabeth Hubbard Hylton. I am also researching this side and this is all I have been able to find. I may be able to get a phone number of some of the kids and you could contact them for some additional information.

Hope I have been of some help.

I don't have your Thomas J. Fann/Fenn in my files, but feel he has to be a descendant of Zachariah Fann/Fenn. His descendants went to that part of Georgia.

One possibility is a Thomas K. Fenn (The K may have been copied wrong and be a J. I have an approximate birth date of 1850 on him. He was son of William P. Fenn, a son of Thomas A. Fenn, a son of George Fenn, a son of Jesse & Wilmouth Fann, a bastard son of Judith Fann and Edward Allgood.

Thomas A. Fenn had 4 sons who were Confederate soldiers. Only one came back. William P. is one who paid with his life.

Doyle Fenn
doylefenn@aol.com

Thomas Jefferson Fann

According to the census information I have, Thomas Jefferson Fann and Frances Catheryn Shepherd Fann had several children. They were Mary Laura, Winnifred, Annie I., Virginia, James Robert, Dallas, Lovic Pierce, John Daniel and Sarah Frances. John Daniel Fann was the grandfather of my ex-husband and family folk lore is that one of his ancestor's was a Native American. I haven't been able to verify this myself. As you can see in previous postings, other descendents of Thomas Jefferson cite the same story. I have not been able to determine the parents of Thomas Jefferson Fann were, but have the parents of Frances Catheryn Shepherd as James M. Shepherd and Mary A. Higdon. It's been a while since I worked on this line and still have a great number of questions.

Carol,
It appears that you have the same information on this group of Fann's in Dublin, Laurens County, GA, as I was given. What evidence do you have that Thomas Jefferson Fann, Jim Fann, and Lovett Fann were brothers and the sons of James Thomas Fann? I'm not saying it's incorrect, only that I don't know how anyone pieced this together. What information do you have on James Thomas Fann? Thomas Jefferson Fann census records say that his father was born in GA, not Ireland.

Is this Jim Fann (killed by Jim Crow?) the same as James M. Fann who served in the Civil War with Company K, 49th Infantry? I assume the Lovet P. Fann that "headed west" was the one that drew land in the state lottery.

If you can help me solve my confusion, you may contact me through this message board or email me at Susdenfann@aol.com.

Thanks!
Susan Law Fann
(doing research on my children's ancestors)

Thank you for replying. Besides yourself, I have been contacted by Diane Baxley through email. She wishes to contact you. You can get her email address from her board message from 2003, it's still good.

The Fann line I have been researching begins with William Fann who married Tempy Pippin about 1880, possibly in northern or central Mo., though their first child James S. is listed as born in Ark. Their census records start in Chariton Co.(1880), then to Miller Co. (1900), later in Montgomery Co., Ark., (1910-1930). Some of the family moved into Ripley Co. after that. I know a branch of Fanns moved into Ripley Co. in the 1800's but I have no proof that my William Fann is related to them. It's possible, I just don't have any info on William's parents. If you can shed some light on this I would be most appreciative. I would be happy to share info with you.
Michael Pippin
mpippin@epecpcb.com
I just read your posting on webroot and I think we are kind to the same Hylton's. Beulah Fann was my aunt,my father was James Foster Hylton. He lived at Meadow Bridge, WV he passed away in 1997. My daughter is working on a Family Tree and I just thought I would say HI.

Peggy (Hylton) Burnette

I am descended from Cleveland Lyles, Annie's brother. I have not been able to find their mother's exact birth date (I believe it was in Feb. 1862) or death date (1910-1920 ?) or the death dates of their father's parents (James J. Li(y)les and Elizabeth James). Also, I can't find the parents of James J.
Li(y)les. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you are still checking this message board after 4 years. I have a little info for James Samuel Fann, the son of William & Tempy (Pippin) Fann. Do you know if James had a brother named Jefferson Davis Fann? Do you know if they lived in Ark.? I would be interested in getting in touch and comparing info.

Mike Pippin
mpippin@epecpcb.com
