I would like to know how to find the Fannin Cemetery on John's Creek near Van Lear. I would also like a list of burials in that cemetery. Does anyone know if there is a published cemetery inscription list for it? I am searching for information on Rebecca, b. 1850, daughter of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin.
Bryan Fannin Family Birth Years Found

I have recently found Amelia Co., Va. documents that disclose the birth years for several members of Bryan Fannin, Sr.'s immediate family members. Until now, these dates have only been an estimate, but the documentation substantiates the birth years suggested.

Achilles Fannin, Sr. b. 1728 - 1730
Bryan Fannin, Jr. b. 1728/1730
Laughlin Fannin b. 1746/1747
Jehu (John) Fannin b. 1746/1747
William Fannin (son of Achilles) b. 1749/1750

I have two files of documentation on this. If anyone would like copies, please contact me at jpfannin@hotmail.com.

Regards,

Pat Fannin

Re: Proof: Bryan Fannin not related to Edmund Fanning

You might be interested in the Fanning DNA Project webpage found at: www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/f/fanning.

Of special interest would be the tests numbered F-32 & F-38, which are descendants of Middleton Fanning. You will see the connection to other descendants of Bryan Fannin of Amelia Co., Va. There is also a distant connection to F-25 which is Henry Fannin born 1844 in Ga. Henry may well turn out to be a grandson of Laughlin Fannin (Old Bryan's son). This is not yet proven.

Also, you will want to see test numbers F-20, 14, 16, 17 & F-23 -- these are in the category of "Lineage 2" and differ considerably from "Lineage 1" which includes Bryan Fannin, Chestnut Creek John Fanning & James Fannin of SC(F-18). Lineage 2 includes Edmund Fanning's descendants. Of particular interest is how different the Haplogroups are between Lineage 1 & Lineage 2.

Also, please look at test # F-19 which is in the Independents Category. This is a supposed descendant of Benoni Fanning of Maryland. Granted, one test proves nothing. That's why we are excited about the upcoming results from test F-43, who also claims to be a descendant of Benoni.

As for Col. Edmund Fanning's descendants -- they should fit comfortably in Lineage 2, along with the other Edmund Fanning descendants.

Finally, the other Fannings that came later will most likely come from many lines of Fannins & Fannings. One interesting point that the DNA tests have shown is a distant connection of Chestnut Creek John's line to several tests whose origin lies in County Leitrim, Ireland such as: Tests F-12 & F-39, as well as F-42 whose results are forthcoming. These specifically come from Fenagh & Sruhaun in Co. Leitrim.

I hope this helps. There is still a great ways to go in figuring out all these families. I hope you will consider helping this DNA Project by either locating male Fannins, Fannons or Fannings, etc. to test or by contributing financially to others tests.

With Respect,

Pat Fannin

Re: Eastern Fannin md. Jude or Julie Harris

I don't. The last descendant of Easton that I corresponded with was Eudora Milligan, daughter of Wayne, and that's been years ago. I'm still focusing on Rebecca and getting nowhere.

I have no contact with Easton’s descendants. What I have found in research follows:

Three of Easton’s sons had male children: Cowen, Wayne, and Jacob.

Cowen- sons, Eddie b. 1901; Robert b. 1904; and Frank b. 1915 (no further info). Obit said Frank lived at Carlsbad, NM in 1977.

Wayne- Ronald of Wooster Ohio in 1977. I believe I found a Ronald in Wooster using phone records some years ago, wrote and received no reply. Wayne’s son, Lige (possibly Elijah) Fannin, d. 1952 married. May have had children.

Jake- died in 1973. His obit names sons Jess of Logan and Frank of Huntington. His WW I draft reg. card in 1917 indicates a son born before that date.

Sorry I don’t have more. Most of my letters have either been returned undeliverable as addressed or just ignored. I can’t seem to find any interested in their ancestry.
Current DNA Results on Fannins, Fannings, etc
DNA Research Pertaining to Bryan Fannin, Sr. of Amelia County, Va. and Other Fannings

As you know most paper sources of information on the early Fannins has been exhausted. Perhaps the continued work with the Fanning DNA Project will one day open a lot of doors for our history. It has already given us some real good insight into several lost branches of the family and has also helped refute some long held mis-information regarding the connection to the Edmund Fanning line of Connecticut. As of August of 2009, two proven descendants of Edmund Fanning of Stonington, Conn. have had their DNA tested. The results prove conclusively that the Edmund Fanning family is in no way connected to the Bryan Fannin family of Amelia County, Virginia. Not only do the allele markers fail to match, but the two lines are in two separate haplogroups. Bryan’s haplogroup is R1b1b2, whereas Edmund’s is l1. You will find further information on alleles & haplogroups at www.familytreedna.com.

Even as I write, we are expecting new test results from a Sussex Co., Va. Fannin, who descends from Bryan Fannin, Jr. and Rachel Rottenberry. We recently received the results on a Tallapoosa Co., Alabama Fannin whose family came from Georgia. His DNA shows a match to others who descend from Bryan Fannin, Sr. of Amelia Co., Va. We are not sure how the Alabama Fannin descends from Bryan, Sr. at this time, but it must be through either Bryan’s son Laughlin Fannin or his son Jehu Fannin.

We have also found that two descendants of Middleton Fanning match the other descendants of Bryan Fannin, Sr. of Amelia Co., Va. Again, just how they connect is still unknown, but the genetic connection to Old Bryan is certain. They, too, may connect through Laughlin or Jehu. Possibly in time we will have enough tests completed to form a mosaic that clearly shows the connection.

Old Bryan’s son, Achilles Fannin, Sr., has been well represented in the Fanning DNA Project. At least seven descendants of Achilles Fannin, Sr. have been tested – one from Ohio by way of Boyd Co., Ky., one from Carter Co., Ky., one from Floyd Co., Ky. by way of W.V., two from Morgan Co., Ky., one from Missouri by way of Wythe Co., Va. There are several others who have tested and match Old Bryan’s line, but their connections are uncertain at this time. One is from Johnson Co., Ky by way of West Virginia and one is adopted and does not know his real parents’ names or where they lived. More testing from Achilles’ line may solve some long kept secrets.

One person has tested who descends from James Fannin(g) of SC. This line is also distantly connected to Chestnut Creek John Fanning & Old Bryan Fannin. This line goes on to Abraham Fannin of Georgia. It is part of the family that includes Col. James Fannin of Goliad, Texas fame.

A significant number of the project tests are from descendants of Chestnut Creek John Fanning of Wythe Co., Va. There are thirteen tests for this family and different lines within this family are clearly being demonstrated. The fascinating part of this for Old Bryan’s descendants is that this line shows a clear connection to Old Bryan Fannin somewhere within a genealogical time frame. Perhaps Chestnut Creek John Fanning & Old Bryan Fannin, Sr. were close cousins. In comparing 37 markers, the probability that tests F-1 & F-27 (Chestnut Creek John’s line) and tests F-2, F-4 & F-8 (Old Bryan’s line) share a common ancestor within the last eight generations is 89% and a 97% probability within twelve generations.

Another fascinating aspect of the Fanning DNA Project has been the distant genetic connection between Chestnut Creek John Fanning’s markers, James Fanning’s markers and Bryan Fannin, Sr.’s markers to several Fannings who have roots in County Leitrim, Ireland. One person is from Daviess Co., Indiana and descends from Fenagh Parish, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. One is from Rhode Island and descends from Sruhaun, Fenagh Parish, Co. Leitrim. One has recently tested from Dublin and he descends from Scardawn, Fenagh Parish, Co. Leitrim. We are awaiting the results of this last test, as well as, another Irish test received
recently.

There has always been a question as to the connection of Benoni Fanning of Maryland to Old Bryan Fannin, Sr. of Amelia Co.,Va. One of Benoni’s descendants has tested and does not match Bryan, Chestnut Creek John, James of S.C., Edmund of Connecticut or any of the Irish lines. Another descendant of Benoni has recently tested and we are awaiting the results to see if they confirm the first test.

In addition, we have tests by Fannings from Australia, Spain & England; none of these match Old Bryan’s line.

So you see there is a lot going on in the Fanning DNA Project and much of it relates to the descendants of Bryan & Elizabeth

(Continued on back)

Fannin of Amelia County, Va. circa 1698-1765. I hope this stirs you to either have your DNA tested or contribute to having others tested, either by locating male descendants who would test or by making a financial contribution to the project for others to be tested.

Family Tree DNA has been running several special sales on tests each year. Maybe that would help some of you to decide to test. Please go to the Fanning DNA Project webpage for details at: www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/f/fanning.

DEFINITIONS
Allele - A DNA sequence that repeats at a certain locus (plural Loci) or place. The allele value is the number of times the sequence repeats. Pronounced uh-LEEL.
Haplogroup - A genetic population group associated with early human migrations and which can today be associated with a geographic region. It is important to note that even though female and male haplogroups may have the same letters, their definitions are different.
Haplotype - One person's set of values for the markers that have been tested.
Dear Sayrehouse,
My family still lives in the area and we will ask around. My little brother is buried there on the hill just down from the Mt. Zion Church. My Great Uncle Strother Staley took care of the cemetery for many years, then Uncle Joe Preston took over. Not sure this is the same place. Good luck in your search. Barbara

Old Baptist Church, Gragstons Ck., Wayne County, WV 1875

If there were any records / minutes (1870s) of this old Baptist Church archived, how could I have access to the information?

p. 149. Transcription of a letter in WAYNE COUNTY NEWS, 2 April 1970 … letter date 3 April 1876 … “They have a Baptist Church organized in Gragstons Creek. It was organized on the 7th and 8th of November last in a schoolhouse built on the point across the creek from where the road takes the hill going to Toms Creek …” Ferguson Family, Genealogical History of Wayne county, West Virginia (Early Cabell and Kanawha, Virginia). Mainly Samuel and Mary (Jameson) Ferguson And Descendants. by Evelyn Booth Massie 1985, Printed and bound by Inter-Collegiate Press, Box 10, Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

“The Graystone Baptist Society, on Graystons creek, has 61 members. Rev. Harrison Smith is in charge.”
West Virginia Encyclopedia, (reprinted by Jim Comstock, from Hardesty’s).

It is believed that Polly, wife of Silas Fannin, was a daughter of John Ferguson, Jr. and wife, Jane Vaughan Ferguson. There is an old cemetery near Gragston Creek on a horse farm known as the John Ferguson Cemetery. It has been recorded that at least 25 graves are therein unidentified. Probably burials were recorded and kept by the old Baptist Church there.

NOTE: Wayne County, WV, Marriage Record Book No. 1, page 35: “Aug. 8 ’68, Reece Workman, 18 - Rebecca Fannon, 17, both single, both born Wayne County, both residing in Wayne County; his parents: M. & E. Workman; her parents: Silas M. Fannon; marriage performed by H. Smith, Minister.”

The Wayne County 1860 Virginia Census listed Round Bottom as the post office for Silas Fannin and his neighbors. The history of Round Bottom is as follows:

The registers of appointment of postmasters, 1832-September 30, 1971, are reproduced on National Archives Microfilm Publication M841, Record of Appointment of Postmasters, 1832-September 30, 1971. The registers of appointments of postmasters in Wayne County, WV, are reproduced on Roll 141 of this microfilm publication. The registers of appointment of postmasters in Wayne County, VA, prior to 1863 are reproduced on Roll 135. The entries in the registers of appointments of postmasters are arranged by State and thereunder by county and thereunder by post office.

The registers of appointments of postmasters show that a post office was established at Canterbury, Lawrence County, KY, on January 14, 1830. The name of the post office was changed to Turmans Ferry, March 6, 1838. The registers show further that the name of the post office at Turmans Ferry was changed to Round Bottom, Wayne County, VA, on June 1, 1852.

The registers show further that the name of the post office at Round Bottom, Wayne County, VA, was changed to Buchanan, Lawrence County, KY. The registers show that the name of the post office at Round Bottom was changed to Prichard, September 6, 1907. The post office at Prichard is still in existence.

The records of the Post Office Department in our custody also include site location reports giving the geographic location of post offices. The site location reports are reproduced on National Archives Microfilm Publication M1126, Post Office Department Reports of Site Locations, 1837-1950. The site location reports for Wayne County, WV, are reproduced on Roll 655 of this microfilm publication.

Note: Round Bottom is reported as post office for the Silas Fannin and John Ferguson families in the U.S. Federal Virginia Census (14 June) 1860 Wayne County.
Re: Eastern Fannin md. Jude or Julie Harris

Here are a few things I’ve gathered on Easton Fannin. I don’t know how accurate they are. I don’t know the source of Julia’s surname being “Harris,” but what I’ve found says she was a “Horn.”

EASTON S. FANNIN, son of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin, born about 1848 in Kentucky [This is believed to be correct, as he was given as age 2 in the 1850 Wayne County Census. RS]; married about 1872, JULIA HORN who was born 25 December 1854 in Russell, Kentucky to Newton H. and Mary Alice (Bower) Horn. Easton and family were living in Silas’ household in 1880. She may have been married to a Ferguson first. In 1900, the census taker found them in Grant District, Wayne County, giving their duration of marriage 28 years, making their marriage date about 1872. Silas was performing marriages then, so he may have married them and never recorded it in a courthouse. In 1900, Juda (Julia) had given birth to 12 children and 11 were still living. Census record says they “owned” and 4 June 1900 they were in Supervisor’s District 4; Enumeration District 113 (Sheet 3).

Easton and Julia had separated before 1910, and Easton was living with Joseph and Ellen (Fannin) Canterbury in Hardee District, Mingo County. He was with Ebb and Margaret Tomblin in 1920 Census, 12 January 1920 Grant Magesterial District, Supervisor’s District 5; Enumeration District 158.

Before his death, he had relocated to Huntington, WV. Death Certificate #5768 said he was crushed by C&O train in Huntington, Cabell, West Virginia, 20 May 1924. Burial was in Canterburry Cemetery, Lenore, W.Va. [Laurel Creek]. The death certificate verified that he had been born in Kentucky, son of Silas, also born in Kentucky, and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin. Julia was living at 1532 Harvey Road, Huntington, WV when she died 5 February 1942. Informant for Julia Fannin’s certificate of death was Effie Scott. [About 2007, a descendant told me that Easton was buried in Huntington and his death certificate is in error. She said she remembered going to Huntington for his funeral. RS]. Children:

i. HESTER FANNIN, b. about 1872; m. ---- Hazlett.
ii. MARY MARGARET FANNIN, b. 28 November 1874; m. Ebb Tomblin.
iii. SILAS FANNIN, b. 18 February 1876; m. and lived in Lincoln County, West Virginia. His tombstone says he was born 10 February 1873 and died 23 October 1958.
iv.	ROSEY FANNIN, b. about 1878.
vi.	COWEN FANNIN, b. in September 1881. He was at home for the 1900 census, but married in 1900 according to later census. He was dead by 1920.
v. WAYNE FANNIN, b. in May 1883. According to SSDI, he was born 2 January 1879 but this must be wrong because he was not named in the 1880 census with Easton’s family; married 1st, (by Gilbert Moore) 28 December 1901 ISABELLE TOMBLIN from Logan County, West Virginia. He may have married 2nd, Mahala Vance, b. 22 May 1880 to Bill and Clara (Kirk) Vance; died 17 July 1942 at RFD, Harts, WV. She was buried at Man’s Knob Cemetery in Lincoln County, WV. He married 3rd, Laura Jonas who was born 1 November 1871 to Jacob and Sarah (Snavely) Jonas. Laura died in a nursing home in Huntington, Cabell, WV 9 October 1950. Burial was in Workman Cemetery. Wayne married 4th, Cora ___.
vii.	MINNIE FANNIN, b. in December 1885; at home in 1900.
viii. ELLEN FANNIN. She was at home in the 1900 census which gave her birth date as October 1888. Information from her neice gave her birth date as 8 January 1886. She married about 1910, JOSEPH CANTERBURY, son of Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth (Lafferty) Canterbury. Their son, Claude Canterbury b. about 1921, married Magdalene Hitchcock. Claude was born about 1921 and died 20 July 1996. Claude and Magdalene had three sons, Claude, Jr., Jesse, and Silas and a daughter, Jean Frances m. Maynard. Ellen died 1 September 1985. (SSDI) Burial was in the cemetery just beside of their home.
ix. EFFIE FANNIN, b. in April 1891. According to 1920 McDowell Census, she m. SCOTT. SSDI gives record of an Effie Scott, b. 21 March 1892; d. 15 August 1967 Harts, Lincoln, WV. Burial was in the Workman Cemetery on Kiahs Creek in Wayne County, WV.
x.	JACOB (“JAKE”) FANNIN. Wayne County has record of a Jacob Fannin marrying (by A. J. Perry) 25 January 1914 ALICE INDICOTT who was born about 1896 to William and America Indicott. This marriage may have failed, as he was in 1920 McDowell census as “single,” boarding with Cowen’s widow; occupation, coal miner. Easton was living with Jake in Huntington in 1924 when he was killed by C&O engine. By 1930, Jake was in Logan, West Virginia. SSDI gives record of Jake Fannin, b. 6 June 1892; d. 21 March 1973, Harts, Lincoln, WV. He was buried in the Workman Cemetery on Kiahs Creek in Wayne County, WV.
x. THOMAS FANNIN, b. in July 1896 [shot; d. in Kentucky.
EM]
xi. (son) FANNIN, b. about 1900.
xii. SALLIE FANNIN, b. about 1909.

Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin raised their family in Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia. Rebecca was born in 1850, married in 1868 Reece Workman, and divorced him in 1877 all in Wayne County, West Virginia. Her son, my grandfather, was told in the 1920's that his mother had remarried and moved away. I am hoping that she had children in her second marriage and some of her descendants of that second marriage will contact me.

I have been searching for information on Easton's sister, Rebecca Fannin (first married to my gt. grandfather, Reece Workman, divorced in 1877). 35-40 years research turned up nothing.

Easton's parents were Silas and Mary ("Polly") (Ferguson) Fannin. Children were Theodore, Easton, Rebecca, Jeremiah, John A., WG, Thomas J., Mary Belle, Celistia, and William. Their home 1850 through 1880 was near Gragston's Creek, Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia.

Strangely, there are no deaths for the Silas Fannin family recorded in Wayne County, WV.

I did a bit more and made a couple shaky assumptions.
John Marion (1866-aft. 1930 )seems to be the son of William (bn Mo.) and Sarah E. (bn. Tn)Fanning of Golden Grove, Barton Co. Mo. I think I made a match in the 1870 census, however, Marion, 3 years old, is at a neighbor's house - Joce and Elvira Smith along with his sister MAry J 8 and older brother Joseph 19 (or these are Elvira's children from an earlier marraige (she is 34, so joseph would be a streetch, even for the Ozarks).
If that holds up, William is the child of Thomas Fanning 1800-1866 and Elizabeth Swadley, from North Carolina via Tennessee. They settled around Dade Co. Mo. This Thomas is the child of Thomas Fanning Jr. 1745-1779+ and Tabitha, from North Carolina. Thomas Jr. is the child of Thomas Sr. 1728-?) and Ann Howard. They are tied best to Surry Co. N.C. and possibly Anson. This is important - this Thomas may connect to John Fanning of Chestnut Creek, Grayson Co. Va. or they may connect to another branch. Unfortunately, unless you have a male line fanning relative who can contribute DNA, we cannont be sure just yet.

Tom
Well, it looks like I had some luck, but the story is anything but clear.
I found your Thomas and Corina. But they are not husband/wife, but actually step-mother and step-son.
Thomas Harvey Fanning (note the g is always used) was born 5/7/2894 in Lexington, Stome co. Ark. and may have died August 1975 in Huntsville, Madison Co. Ark. (Social Security Index. I have that info, his WWI draft card and WWII draft card. email me to get digital copies.
His half-sisters included Emily (1909- ) Retha (1906 - ) Minerva (1904 -) Mollie Mary (1902 - ). Corna A. ___ was their mother. John Marion Fanning (1866-aft.1930) was all of their's father. Thomas's mother has not been determined, but Corna and John Marion were married around 1901 and it was his second marraige. John Marin was origianlly from Missouri. Most of the time they are all found in Van Buren Co. (where Clinton is) or in Stone Co. Ark. next door. I am still working on hs info.

None of these folks are "directly" from Ireland. John Marion indicates that his fatehr is from Tennessee and his mother is from Missouri.

Please contact me by email and I will give you this info and more. tfannin@fkp.com

Tom

This is very interesting. My grandfather Charles Jefferson Fannin was born about 1882. I'm not sure of his town of birth, but I believe he worked on the railroad in Missouri before settling down near Rome, Georgia after the Great Depression. He passed away in 1985 just shy of his 103rd birthday. I believe his grandfather owned a slave and he had an uncle who was an officer in the Confederacy. They traced their ancestry to either Ireland or France...perhaps in the late 17th century. I suspect that much of the knowledge of the family was lost during the Civil War.

Still Looking for Rebecca (Fannin) Workman, b. 1850

WANTED: Help with FANNIN / FANNON search.
REBECCA FANNIN, b. 1850 in Wayne County, West Virginia
SILAS M. FANNIN / FANNON, father, b. about 1822 in Lawrence County, Kentucky
MARY (FERGUSON) FANNIN, mother, b. about 1825 in Cabell County, (W) Virginia

Silas and Mary FANNIN, had Theodore, Easton, Rebecca, Jeremiah, John, Thomas, GW, Mary Belle, Celistia, and William. Apparently all children but Easton were born in West Virginia. They lived in Butler District, Wayne County, (W) Virginia as found in 1850 through 1880 Censuses. Silas performed marriages and last one found in Wayne County records was 1887. There are no deaths recorded in Wayne County records for anyone in his family. Likewise there are no listings in the Wayne County Cemetery Inscription books. The 1868 marriage of Rebecca to Reece Workman is on record. A divorce in 1877 was found in Wayne County probate records for Rebecca to Reece. Family told that Rebecca remarried and moved away, but I’ve found no such event on record in Wayne and all surrounding counties.

Anyone having or finding anything about Rebecca, or death dates and cemetery where Silas and family are buried, please send that information to sayrehouse@juno.com. Data of interest is within the time frame of 1877 – 1900.

Please note that I have the easy stuff from the Internet. I have hard copies of death certificates for Easton, John and Thomas Fannin. Also marriage certificates for Celistia. Also note that death dates and places have been posted by LDS and other sources which cannot be documented and appear to be made up.
Rebecca (FANNIN) WORKMAN remarried who? after 1877 Wayne

Anyone who has (1880s) information about this family, please post here. The Silas Fannin family lived in Wayne County near Upper Gragston Creek, Butler District 1850 through 1880 censuses. Children of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin were as follows: Theodore, Easton, Rebecca, Jeremiah, John, George Washington, Mary Belle, Celistia, and William. Rebecca, born 1850, was my great-grandmother. She married my great-grandfather, Reece Workman in 1868 and divorced him in 1877. Family tradition passed down is the Rebecca “remarried and moved away.” Nothing I have tried in the last forty years has turned up a second married surname for her. Someone, some where, must have information about her. Please don’t duplicate and return information that I have posted online. I’m only interested in Rebecca, who she “remarried,” and where she lived and died after 1877.

Re: Isaac N. Fannin of KY

Hi,
I am interested in all things Fannin and all the various spellings. I will re-copy a message I posted here several years back under a different name and email. I am doing this just on the chance that someone may have tried to contact me at my old email.

Re: Isaac N. Fannin of KY
David Fannon (View posts) Posted: 24 Sep 2000 1:24PM GMT

Classification: Query
Surnames: Fannin, Osborne
I need Help with any Fannin willing to participate in a serach for my lost g-Grandfather Fannin. He went by the name of "Will" Fannin. We believe he would have been born @1870 in Eastern Kentucky (Martin, Lawrence, Floyd or Johnson Counties)and went to, or made trips to Lee, Wise and Scott County, Va. around 1890-1910. He had a wife, Malinda Osborne Fannin also from Eastern Kentucky. Malinda may not have been his only wife; and we just assume his first. They had two Children: son Charlie Bryant Fannin and daughter Dora Allice Fannin. We can place Charlie (B. 1896 in Inez, Martin Co.) at Wayland, Floyd Co, Prestonsburg and McRoberts, Ky. about the same time frame 1896-1910. We have documentation to show our surname was changed from Fannin to Fannon in Wise county, Va. @1925.
Please if you can help respond to: Dave at David_Fannon@mebtel.net.

I have leads that tell (not prove) that "Will" was the son of a Silas Fannan and an Issac Fannin. I have done the Fanning DNA Project showing two perfect 67 marker tests, and lots more from 12 -67 markers.
I would like to correspond with anyone on these subjects and names to include research information that I have done for over twenty years.
There are many people all over the internet doing the research but, more people and genealogists need to help with the Fanning DNA Project and centralize it as the internet main sight for Fannin/Fannan/Fannon/Fanning, etc.. paternalology and history for all to enjoy forever.

Thomas and Corna had only 4 daughter's as far as I know. My grandmother, their daughter had a son who has passed away. So, I would not know what to do at this point. I knew Thomas was buried in Clinton Arkansas. I don't know the year, however I know that Corna went to Texas after that with her daughter's and she re-married. I do have a picture of Corna. She was young when it was taken. I'd like to thank you for all of your help!

Julie

Hello,

I know that they were born in Ireland. I do not know where. That is almost a secret. I know they settled in Clinton Arkansas. That is where Thomas Fannin died. They had several children:

Julie Emily Mae (She used the name Emily)
Molly
Minerva (She used the name Minnie)
Reathie

Corna Remarried in Texas and I believe died either in Dallas county or east Texas. I am not aware of the date.

Emily married William Edward Collins in about 1934 at the age of 25. William died in 1972 in Cherokee County. He is buried in Wofford. Emily Died in 1988 and was buried beside him. Emily did re-marry in later life a Mr. Bates from Arkansas. He had been her childhood sweetheart.

Molly married Jack Shepherd. He was killed in a railroad accident that crushed him between the train and caboose. She got re-married to an Alvin Smith. Both of them are buried in Grimes cemetery in Cherokee county.

Minnie married a Tommy Martin. As far as I know she never re-married. She passed away but I am unsure of the date, but it was in the 1970-80's.

Reathie married a Mr. Kirkpatrick. They lived in Athens Texas. I have known all of them. I do not knw where she is buried. I do know she had children.

My mother is Betty Collins-Smith

Her Grand Parents were Thomas and Corna Johnson Fannin. Corna's Mother;s last name was Jones, which tells me she re-married.

her siblings from the Fannin-Collins marriage are and were:

Eddie Lee Collins: Died Married Nellie Pearl Winchester
Mattie Lois Collins: Died Married Bobby Henderson
Linda Fay Collins: Died Married Demitry Droulous (Sp?)
Janet Collins Walker
Velma Jean Collins-Chandler-Farrens-Moss

I hope this is enough information. I have not been able to find the Fannin's.

Thank you fo all of your help in advance.

Julie
