Re: Charles T. Farish and Rachel Keeling Rowe Farish & Woolfolk

I have a transcription of Charles Tod Farish's will. Contact me via my Ancestry link and I'll send it to you.

Yes, there is a relationship between Charles T. Farish and the Woolfolk family. Charles Tod Farish had a younger brother named William Hiter Farish (b. 1812). William married a completely different woman also named Rachel Keeting Row (my data has no "e" at the end of the last name, though it's highly likely that later generations added it - spelling was an inexact science in those days!) One of their daughters, Fannie A. Farish (b. ca 1853) married William A. Woolfolk, and they had three children of whom I am aware.

My great-great grandfather was Sylvester Farish (born in New York in 1887), he had six children with his wife Mary (I believe her maiden name was Annarello), two of whom were named Sylvester Farish and Thomas W. Farish, all of New York. Thomas W. Farish (b. 1914) was my great grandfather who fathered my grandfather, another Thomas W. Farish in 1936.

Does this match up with anything that you have been searching for?

Farish, Linn M. "Crash Kills Daring U.S. Secret Agent"

Oakland Tribune Thursday, September 21, 1944 Oakland, California

CRASH KILLS DARING U.S. SECRET AGENT

BARI. Italy. Sept. 21.—AP—Military
censorship has relaxed one of
its most rigid restrictions so that
public recognition may be given
Maj. Linn M. Farish of Woodland.
Calif., the courageous officer who
outfoxed the Germans for 12 months
in the Balkans, only to die in a
plane crash.
An engineer, Major Farish located
and surveyed many secret air fields
from which Allied fliers and others
have been flown out to freedom.
A careful observer, he saw events
so clearly and with such perspective
that his" reports were sent to the
White House. Anonymity cloaked
his identity and activities because
he was a secret agent. He was killed
in the Balkans on September 11.
Farish parachuted into the wild
Bosnian hinterland on September
19, 1343, to join the British-American
mission to Marshal Tito's Partisan
headquarters
Immediately after his arrival he
went to Tito for assistance in rescuing
fliers bailing out of crippled
planes over Yugoslavia. The Partisan
leader responded by sending
this order to every brigade headquarters:
"American fliers must be rescued
from enemy elements by force of
arms if necessary."
From this pledge of co-operation
dated the return from captivity of
hundreds of Allied airmen.
Farish began work by sending in
data for "escape maps" and urging
that fliers be kept up to date on
free areas held by Tito. He then
again searching for suitable landing
strips so the men. once they were in
safe hands, might be returned to
home bases.
He stressed the importance of preparing
several strips in each area to
permit their use by rotation to confuse
the enemy and eliminated the
necessity of moving wounded men
long distances. From such secondary
fields, many men subsequently escaped
from the Germans, among
them Tito and Farish himself.
Farish spent three 90-day periods
in the interior of Yugoslavia, entering
each time by parachute. He then
undertook a series of surveying
trips by plane. He met his death on
the third of these journeys.
His most exciting cat-and-mouse
skirmish with the enemy occurred
in April after he had jumped into
Macedonia near the Bulgarian border
to round up and evacuate a
number of fliers, some of whom
had been in hiding since the low
level bombing attack on Ploesti in
August, 1943.
First Lieut. Eli Popovitch of South
Chicago, accompanied him.
They located four airmen safe
at parsian headquarters, but before
they had lime to look for a landing
strip. Bulgarian troops in the
vicinity began an offensive.
The Americans moved north for
six days and five nights with only
a few hours sleep. Bulgarian patrols
twice fired on them. The Americans
passed through the enemy
lines three limes.
The pair then made a five-day
trip on horseback to bring a
wounded flier from a small village
near a Bulgarian garrison, crossing
the enemy lines twice and barely
escaping on one occasion by galloping
their mounts under machine gun
fire.
On May 18 they saw a Liberator
bomber shot down over the mountains
and went off again for nine
days to scour the area for its crew.
On the tenth day word reached their
camp that three surviving fliers had
boon carried away by a Chetnik
patrol.
Farish and Popovitch searched
four more days and on June 3
managed to gel through to a village
described as in "dangerous Chetnik
territory." They found tile men
alive and under treatment. They
had no trouble in getting ox carts
for their removal.

Woodland Daily Democrat Tuesday, September 30, 1919 Woodland, California

Linn Farish has registered at Stanford
University.

Looking for Farishes living in Cumbria England, or Dumfries, Scotland.

I'm looking for "Farish" descendants living in Dumfries, Scotland and Cumbria, England to do a "DNA" test with me. I am a Farish descendant living in the United States. I've run into a wall looking for the ancestors of Robert Farish born about 1684 in Cumberland, England. He immigrated to America (Virginia) in about 1714. He had two sons: Robert and John who were also born in England. There are many Farish family trees on the internet, listing these people, but no one has provided any documented proof as to where they lived or who their ancestors were. Some say they came from Whitehall, Cumberland, England, and some say they came from Broom Park, England, but no one knows for certain. If Robert Farish came from the Broom Park area, then his ancestry can be traced to Farishes living in Scotland during the 1500's.

This could be a really exciting undertaking for anyone who is willing. The DNA test is described on rootsweb.com in case you want to read about it.

Thanks,

Crystal Farish

There is a William A Farish family from California who are found in the 1880 in Colorado. There is a Lillie in that family and a Markley in the family of Anthony Linn Farish <G> it seems to me that there is a Cousin reunion <G> There was a branch of the Farish family that went west in the gold rush and then set up as merchants. All the names you list belong to those Farishes.

I am a decendant of William P. Farish (born 1797) and Millicent Laughlin. Several trees on ancestry.com contain information on this line, but some of it is incorrect (mostly decendant information). The tree on LDS.org is also incorrect. Is there anyone who can provide me with historical sources for information on William P.'s parents: William P. farish, born 1724 in Virginia? Most everyone I ask has listed a family tree they found on the internet. Also, I have verified information on most of this line if anyone is interested in a copy.

Robert Farish - England to Virginia

Hi,

Thanks to your response to my inquiry about the Farishes from England. I am a descendant of Robert Farish too. I have looked at the information on World Connect, but I haven't seen any sources listed for the information there. I have a genealogy chart completed by Paul Farish and Hunter D. Farish that lists Robert Farish coming from Broom Park, but that information has never been verified. Hunter Farish visited a man named Arthur Farish in England who had the Farish Broom Park/Dumfries Scotland information. Hunter tried to connect Robert Farish with that family, but only guessed that he belonged there. As I understand it, no on has ever provided a verified source for that claim.

Have you been able to find information to support Hunter's claim? If so, I would love to have it.

There is also a theory that Robert came from Whitehall, Cumberland England as some of the Scotland Farishes moved there at the same time that some moved to Broom Park Cumberland, England.

At the time Robert came to American, there were Whitehall Farishes engaged in trade with Virginia. A William Farish owned several ships that sailed from the Whitehall port. I think that Robert was related to those Farishes, but I haven't done much research to find out if it's true. I went to the Family History Center in Salt Lake City last month to research the parishe records in Whitehall to see if I can find Robert there. I haven't had any luck yet.

I am also a descendant of Reverand William P. Farish who lived in Charlottesville, Virginia. Are you related to him? If so, I have done a lot of research on that line of the family. I would be happy to share what I have with you.

Thanks again!

Crystal Beutler

Hi, I'm Crystal Farish and I am looking for information on the Farishes in England. I read a post that is two years old stating that you were going to England to do research. Did you find anything about Robert Farish (born 1674) who came to Virginia from England? There are several genealogists who say he came from Broom Park, Cumberland, England, but there is no evidence to support this. If you found anything regarding Robert will you please email me?

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for you message. It is the Whitehall port in Cumberland. Here is where the confusion lies: There are Farishes in Broompark, Cumberland, England. The ancestry for those Farishs (which I have if you need it) goes back to the 1500's. However, I haven't found any viable proof that connects those Farishes with Robert Farish, my ancestor who immigrated to America in the 1700's. I read somethign from another genealogist who mentioned that Robert Farish could have come from Whitehall, Cumberland, England. There was a William Farish who lived in Whitehall engaged in trade with Virginia at the time Robert sailed to America. I'm trying to connect Robert Farish to the Farishes who lived in Whitehaven, but I haven't been able to access the parish records in that area. If you happen to find anything, please let me know. Who is your Farish ancestor? What line do you connect with?

I would venture to guess that you have quite a bit that I would be interested in. Please email me at lfbunce@verizon.net. Thank you!
Farish's in England

Hi, I am beginning to put my maternal ancestors (Farish) together so I keep looking for connections. You mention Whitehall port in your notices but could this be Whitehaven port in Cumberland. This port did do a lot of trade with the americas so that could be the connection you are missing. Hope this helps, and as soon as I can get the time to put my family tree on the web, we may even have connections there.

Thomas Honor Bradford m. Lucinda Stamps Farish- Woodville, Mississippi

I'm looking for any information about Thomas Honor Bradford (184?-1892) who married Lucinda Stamps Farish (1859-1892) in Woodville, MS.. After his death we know the 3 boys(Paul Cannon, William Stamps, Hugh Alexander) went to stay with the Bradford family but we don't know where that was or any other information about the Bradford family. In literature they are listed as living near Rosemont(plantation near Woodville, MS) on a plantation? Thanks for any help you can offer.
