Pat,
In your post on Mar 20 you asked the following the question:
“It seems that you are now satisfied that your ancestor is Samuel "B" Farmer, is that correct or is that still open?”
The answer is no. But I am closer to accepting Bob Farmer’s reasoning then any other. There are a number of issues to deal with and that is the fact that there are so many people with the same name. There are at least three Fredericks and at least three or four Matthews. It looks like the point of confusion starts after John with the fact that
1.) John might have had a son named Frederick who had a son named Frederick who had a son named Matthew
2.) John might have had a son named Frederick whose first wife died (the mother of the 2nd Frederick) and then remarried and had two sons, Matthew and Barnard. So in that case Matthew is the younger half brother of the 2nd Frederick and not his son.

Also there is a few posting out on the internet about another Matthew Farmer who was born in 1734 moved to Miami, Ohio. I know this is not my Matthew because he was born too soon but his will gives the name of his wife as Margaret but not her maiden name
Was she Margaret Molly Glass, daughter of Dudley Glass? Or was that the wife of my Matthew? We know that my Matthew moved to St. Charles Co. with and/or at the same time that my ggg grandfather Samuel B. Farmer with wife Frances. Samuel is listed as one of the sons of the Ohio Matthew on some internet postings but he is not listed in the text of the actual will of the Ohio Matthew. I have not seen a will from my Matthew. If any body would know it would be Bob Farmer of Florissant because he is the only person I know of who has done research in the court house in St. Charles Co. where Matthew died. I see that Bob/George R. Farmer of Florissant has the children of the Ohio Matthew as the children of my Matthew – his gggg uncle (per above posting dated March 11.)

I am posting a cut and past of one of those postings about a Matthew Farmer that has a combination of both of the Matthews in question making them out to be one person.

I know you are not related at this point in the Farmer family line since your line branches off at John the son of Henry but if you can shed some light that would be helpful. I don’t know how much of the info on this cut and past is accurate but it is a starting point. If Bob or rsnyder20041 or anyone else with any knowledge of the Farmer family line would like to comment, I am all ears.

I start the cut and past with Frederick (Sr) b. 1710 and I end with a line listing
Barnad’s son John since he the gg of Bob Farmer.

If you follow the posting it goes on to list Bird and his son William.

2 Frederick Farmer, b abt 1710 in Henrico Co, Va d 12 Mar 1782 in Halifax Co., Va md.
(1) Martha Hatcher, dau of Co. William Hatcher who was a member of the House of Burgesses for Henrico Co., 1644, 1645, 1649, 1652
(2) Obedience Adkins dau of William Adkins of Chesterfield Co., moved to Halifax Co VA.
(3) Elizabeth Metcalf - after Frederick Farmer's death in 1782 she married Nathan Sullins from Halifax Co. **
--- He was a Revolutionary War Veteran (per National Archives documents)
--- Frederick Farmer was appointed surveyor by the January Court 1769.
---It should be noted that a number of genealogies found on the Internet reference a Frederick Farmer, Sr. (spouse identified as Martha Hatcher) and a Frederick Farmer, Jr. (spouse identified as Obedience Adkins) from Chesterfield Co., VA.
--Chesterfield Co. deed records verify the marriage of Frederick Farmer Sr., and Martha Hatcher. However, Halifax Co. deeds clearly state that the spouse of Frederick Farmer, Jr. was Mary Boice (granddaughter of Thomas Finney).
--Furthermore, a Chesterfield Co., VA deed (Deed Book 7, Page 194) states that the wife of Frederick Farmer (Sr. - identified by his signing his name with the mark "X') was Obedience. Therefore, it is theorized that Frederick Farmer, Sr. had two wives: Martha whose offspring included Frederick Farmer, Jr. and David Farmer; and Obedience whose offspring included Barnard Farmer and Matthew Farmer.
--Other genealogies found on the Internet reference a Frederick Farmer from Patrick/Henry/Halifax Counties (spouse identified as Elizabeth Metcalf). These genealogies purport that this Frederick died in 1782 and that his widow later married a Nathan Sullins. Halifax Co. deed, personal property, court, and marriage records verify that a Frederick Farmer died in 1782 and left a widow named Elizabeth Farmer who married Nathan Sullins from Halifax Co.
--- A Frederick Farmer sold land to Barnard Farmer in Halifax Co. in 1801. This Frederick Farmer signed his name using the mark X. Frederick Farmer, Sr. from Chesterfield Co. signed his name using the mark X. Halifax Co. Personal Property Tax Records seem to indicate that this Frederick Farmer and Frederick Farmer, Sr. originally from Chesterfield Co., VA are one-and-the-same. It is theorized that this Frederick Farmer is the father of Barnard Farmer. It should be noted that Halifax Co. records insinuate some relation between Frederick and Enoch Farmer. Halifax Co. personal property records show that Frederick had one son under the age of 21 in 1789. Later personal property records in 1789 show that Frederick Farmer has NO sons under the age of 21 and list Barnard (listed directly under Frederick) for the first time. Barnard is consistently listed under Frederick's name in personal property tax lists from 1789 through 1800. Halifax Co. court records show that Frederick Farmer was surveyor of the road from the Banister River Bridge to the county line AND that Barnard was named surveyor of the same road later in time. Halifax Co. marriage records show that Barnard offered surety at Frederick's daughter's (Judith) wedding in 1797.

· 2. Frederick Farmer md. Mary Boice (granddaughter of Thomas Finney)
---He moved from Chesterfield Co. VA to Halifax Co. VA to Randolph Co. NC – where he founded the community of Farmer, North Carolina
---Halifax Co. marriage and deed records outline the sale of property and offering of surety at weddings which specifically name Frederick Farmer, Barnard Farmer, and/or John F. Farmer. A Matthew Farmer is identified as the son of Frederick Farmer in Halifax Co. Deed Book 19, Page 321. Halifax Co. records, and John F. Farmer genealogy research, tie the aforementioned to a Matthew Farmer and show a tie between the Farmer, Martin, Carr, and Glass families of Halifax Co. **
---A Matthew Farmer is referenced in the Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files as born in Chesterfield Co., VA; a resident of Halifax Co., VA; and moving to St. Charles Co., MO in 1834. Another noteworthy relationship with Frederick and Barnard Farmer is that of the Nunnally (alias Nunnallee) family. Harbard Nunnally is listed in a Halifax Co. marriage record as marrying Judith Farmer, daughter of Frederick Farmer -and Barnard Farmer offers the surety. Additional Halifax Co. records show sale of property by Frederick Farmer (& co.) to Harbard (alias Herbert) Nunnally. **
