Mrs. Alice Farnham, aged 48 years, and wife of Milan Farnham, of Battle Creek Twp., passed
away at the residence on Thursday evening. She leaves besides her husband; one daughter,
Mrs. Earl Harding of Battle Creek; a sister, Diana Bowman, of Assyria Twp.; two sons, Roy
and Glenn, of this city; two brothers, Edwin Ellis and Isaac Ellis of Valparaiso, Ind. Private
funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the home of the son, Roy Farnham,
of 103 Magnolia avenue, Rev. F. E. George, officiating. Burial will be made in Ceresco
cemetery. A daughter of Mrs. Farnham, Mrs. Diana Morse of Battle Creek, passed away on
Friday.
Notes: From Marriage Index info, Mrs. Earl Harding was daughter, Lillian B. (Farnham)
Harding.
Also from her obit, the daughter who died the previous week, was actually, Rachael May
(Farnham) Morse.
And Diana (Ellis) Bowman was my great-grandmother.

on Friday at 5 p.m. She was the wife of Donald Morse. The death was caused by pneumonia.
She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Farnham, of this city, and one daughter, Donna
Elizabeth; one son, Milan Edward; one sister, Mrs. Earl Harding, and a brother, Glen Roy
Farnham. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the residence, Rev. F. E.
George officiating. Burial will be made in Hicks cemetery.
Note: Her brothers Glenn and Roy were obviously blended into one by mistake.

Mrs. Glenn E. Farnham passed away at Oaklawn hospital Friday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock.
Preceding her death was that of an infant son born at 4:30 o'clock the same afternoon.
Mrs. Farnham was born in Girard township, Branch county, August 2nd, 1895 and was thirty-
five years of age. The family came here from Battle Creek. Mr. Farnham being a member of
the firm of formerly Farnham & Kappis. She was a member of the First Church of Christ
Scientist and was esteemed by all who knew her.
Surviving are the husband, four young children, Irene Alice, Earl, Helen Mary and Evelyn
Betty; the mother, Mrs. Mary Mack of Union City; a sister, Mrs. Irene May of Flint; also four
brothers, Irving C. Mack of Allengansie county; Bernie A., Truman C., Claud and Lloyd Mack
all of Union City.
The funeral will occur from the home in north Eagle street Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock
and officiating will be Homer Fisher. Interment will be given in the cemetery at Union City.

Mrs. Bertha Mack Farnham, 35, died at Oaklawn hospital at 5:37 o'clock Friday evening. She
was preceded in death by an infant son who died at 4 o'clock.
Mrs. Farnham, formerly of Girard township, came to Marshall with her husband, Glenn
Farnham, from Battle Creek last June. Mr. Farnham has conducted the G. E. Farnham tinship
in this city for eight years.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mary A. Mack of Girard township; one sister, Mrs. Irene
May of Flint, and five brothers, Bernie A., Truman C., Claude and Loyd Mack of Union City
township and Irving C. Mack of Quincy; four children, Irene Alice, aged 10, Earl J., aged eight,
Helen Mary. aged seven, and Edelyn Betty, aged two years.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the family residence at 602
West Mansion, Homer Fisher, Christian Science reader, will be in charge of the services.
Interment will be made at the Union City cemetery.

Retired roofing business owner dies
Roy E. Farnham, 87, of 73 Fairview St., died Monday in Leila Hospital, where he had been a
patient since Saturday. He was a lifelong Battle Creek resident. For many years he owned and
operated Roy Farnham & Son, an eavestroughing and roofing business, from his home. He
retired in 1975.
He was an avid fisherman and won a travel trailer for catching the biggest bluegill in a contest
on the old Mort Neff television show. He was a member of the Battle Creek Sportsman's Club.
His wife, the former Rose M. Coyer, died in 1971. At the time of her death, they had been
married 53 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard P. (Virginia R.) Clark of 226 Briarwood Lane;
sons, Robert E. of 83 Fairview St., Arthur J. of Houston, Texas, and Leroy Farnham of 19893
Hubbard Road; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.

Robert E. Farnham, 83, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Farnham was born on May 20, 1918, in Battle Creek to Ray E. and Rose (Coyer)
Farnham.
He attended Lakeview High School and served in the Army from August 12, 1942 to June 20,
1945. He was discharged as a Technician 5th Grade. He served in battles Sicilian Naples-
Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and received the Silver
Star and Bronze Star.
Robert was employed by United Steel and Wire Company prior to entering the Military. After
the Military, he joined the Eaton Corporation in the Valve Division retiring in November 1978.
He married Thelma M. (Newbre), which ended in divorce; married Esther J. (Lawson) for 43
years, she died in 1985; then he married Florence (Crawford-Collins) on July 22, 1986, she
survives.
Survivors are sons; Larry G. (Leda) Farnham of Delton, James R. (Glenna) Farnham of
Bellevue and David E. (Bonnie) Farnham of Elkhart, IN; daughter, Jacqueline L. Easter of
Mabelvale, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great-
grandchild; and brother, Lee Farnham of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by a son, William L. Farnham in 1941; sister, Virginia Clark; and
brother, Arthur Farnham.
Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and his garden. He was an avid trap and skeet-shooter and a
member of the Battle Creek Gun Club for over 30 years.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Family will be
present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
11:00 a.m. Friday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Burial in Ceresco Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice Care.

Leroy Farnham, 76, of Battle Creek died, Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his home. He was born
October 27, 1926, in Battle Creek, the son of Roy Edward and Rose Marie (Coyer) Farnham.
Leroy worked with Sheet Metal and was an Eavestroughing Contractor. He also worked for
Cello Foil, Starr Paper Co., Beaver Research Co., and was involved with sales with Advertising
and Artwork. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life and after his illness he started
woodcarving and became proficient in carving decoys. He was Seaman First Class in the U.S.
Navy during World War II. He was a baker while stationed in Guam.
Leroy is survived by his loving daughter, Cassie Sherlin and granddaughter, Gabrielle Sherlin
of Battle Creek, sisters-in-law, Virginia Clark and Carole Oberlin of Battle Creek, nieces and
nephews. He married the former Norma Sutton, December 21, 1963, she preceded him in
death, February 23, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Clark,
brothers, Robert Farnham and Arthur Farnham.
Cremation has taken place and private family burial of ashes will be held. Family and Friends
may contact Cassie Sherlin with questions. Interment of ashes will be in Woodland Cemetery,
Jackson. Memorial Contributions to Battle Creek Health System, Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Program or Good Samaritan Hospice Care. Arrangements by Royal Funeral Home.

Norman Jean (Sutton) Farnham, 59, of Battle Creek, died surrounded by her family Thursday,
February 27, 2003, at the Battle Creek Health System. She was born March 6, 1943 in
Ypsilanti, the daughter of Donald and Lenora Fern (Andrews) Sutton.
Norma was the manager for the Pennfield C-Store for twenty years, during that time she also
worked at the Morgan Road C-Store for thirteen years. She had been a cook, counter person
and waitress for the Ritzee for six years and for Speeds Drive-In. She worked for Woolworth's
5 and Dime store in downtown Battle Creek.
She married Leroy 'Lee' Farnham, December 31, 1965, in Comstock, Michigan. She is
survived by husband: Leroy 'Lee' Farnham, daughter: Cassie Jo Sherlin, granddaughter:
Gabrielle "George" Sherlin, all of Battle Creek; half sister: Shirley A. (Robert) Stancer, Portage,
Wis., nephews: David E. Farnham, Elkhart, Ind., Larry G. Farnham, Battle Creek; niece:
Jacqueline L. Easter, Little Rock, Ark. and sister: Carol E. Oberlin, of Battle Creek. She was
preceded in death by her parents and nephew, James Farnham, August 19, 2002.
She came to Battle Creek from Marshall in 1955, she had also lived in Jackson and Albion.
She graduated in 1974 from Lakeview High School, when she was younger she had to quit
school to support her parents, but persisted to get her high school degree later in life. Norma
was a member of American Legion Auxiliary 54 and actively helped with the Camp Fire Girls.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved cats. She was a good
cook particularly cooking sweet potato dishes, enjoyed canning vegetables, and making her
own ketchup. She loved feeding the birds, playing BINGO, and watching QVC Home Shopping
Channel on television.
Visitation will be after 12 noon Sunday where the family will be present at the funeral home
from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday,
March 3, 2003, in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian E. Spencer officiating. Burial in
Woodland Cemetery, Jackson. Memorials to the American Lung Association of Michigan or
Humane Society - Calhoun Area. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a
member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.

Norman Jean (Sutton) Farnham, 59, of Battle Creek, died surrounded by her family Thursday,
February 27, 2003, at the Battle Creek Health System. She was born March 6, 1943 in
Ypsilanti, the daughter of Donald and Lenora Fern (Andrews) Sutton.
Norma was the manager for the Pennfield C-Store for twenty years, during that time she also
worked at the Morgan Road C-Store for thirteen years. She had been a cook, counter person
and waitress for the Ritzee for six years and for Speeds Drive-In. She worked for Woolworth's
5 and Dime store in downtown Battle Creek.
She married Leroy 'Lee' Farnham, December 31, 1965, in Comstock, Michigan. She is
survived by husband: Leroy 'Lee' Farnham, daughter: Cassie Jo Sherlin, granddaughter:
Gabrielle "George" Sherlin, all of Battle Creek; half sister: Shirley A. (Robert) Stancer, Portage,
Wis., nephews: David E. Farnham, Elkhart, Ind., Larry G. Farnham, Battle Creek; niece:
Jacqueline L. Easter, Little Rock, Ark. and sister: Carol E. Oberlin, of Battle Creek. She was
preceded in death by her parents and nephew, James Farnham, August 19, 2002.
She came to Battle Creek from Marshall in 1955, she had also lived in Jackson and Albion.
She graduated in 1974 from Lakeview High School, when she was younger she had to quit
school to support her parents, but persisted to get her high school degree later in life. Norma
was a member of American Legion Auxiliary 54 and actively helped with the Camp Fire Girls.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved cats. She was a good
cook particularly cooking sweet potato dishes, enjoyed canning vegetables, and making her
own ketchup. She loved feeding the birds, playing BINGO, and watching QVC Home Shopping
Channel on television.
Visitation will be after 12 noon Sunday where the family will be present at the funeral home
from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday,
March 3, 2003, in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian E. Spencer officiating. Burial in
Woodland Cemetery, Jackson. Memorials to the American Lung Association of Michigan or
Humane Society - Calhoun Area. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a
member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
