I would refer you to “The New England Descendants of the Immigrant Ralph Farnum of Rochester, Kent County, England, and Ipswich, Massachusetts” by Russell C. Farnham. It is a massive, magisterial, three-volume work, published in 1999. It contains most of the line you describe, except for the last three generations. It does have more detail on many of the men in your line, and it will correct several errors. For example, the first in the line, Henry 1 Farnham, could hardly have died in Ontario, Canada in 1619; it didn’t exist. The date you quoted was not the date he died but rather the date on which his will was proved. And the date of death of his son Ralph 2 is unknown, but probably occurred in the early 1640’s. You show instead the date of death of Ralph 3. etc.

Hi. I have been offline for a little while. But I can clarify this about "Charles and Lois". This charles was my mother's oldest brother, and the son of Charles Sr. and Mary Ellen Carpenter. He was known as "Bud". Uncle Bud died in Brooksville Florida about 10 years ago, and was married to Alma Shiver ever since I can remember, which has been about 70 years ago for that relationship.) I have been trying to find Oliver's father, and where he was born at in Vermont. If you can contact me, I can give you informetion; some you may have, and some you may not have. BTW. This "DRAppling" that you see at the top was the former owner of this computer, and I have to make the correction on that, when I figure out how to do it. Hope I have found some new relatives!1 We never owned a car when I was growing up, so when we had family visitors, it had to be those that owned a car. My family was raied in Florida, but we knew all of my mother's 3 brothers, and 1 of her sisters from the marriage to Mary Ellen, who was his second wife; plus Aunt Rosie and Uncle (Thomas) Dewey from the forst marriage to Mary Harrelson. Also just recently found a cousin who is the son of my mother's first cousin, and they live right here in Florida!! Would love to hear from you. Joanie Taylor Brown (in Pasco County Florida). alaga1@msn.com is my email address.

Thanks for your prompt reply and for sending the link. I am
currently working on finding out more about my Grandpa Lee
Ellis, and his father. It seems that this will be a long process. But I am up for it. I wish I'd been more curious
when my Dad and others were still alive to ask. There are still some that are with us, I just need to track them down. So it is in the works. Also I have a question.
I did a search on my maiden name (Dawn Ellis)and found
several in England. A nice lady in England wrote back,
and said that her ex husband (the real Ellis) was Welsh.
I am confused. Ellis has been called English, Scottish, and
now Welsh. She also said it is a common name there. Comments anyone?
Again, thanks for sharing tips and info. I'll do the same
as I find information to share.
Dawn Renee (formerly Ellis)

Dawn and Timothy,
The Alice Ellis Farnham that Timothy spoke of is one of 3 daughters and 6 sons of Israel Ellis and Rachel Funk of Harrison Co., IN. Her brother, John Briggs Ellis, is my Gr. Gr. Grandfather. I know quite a bit about this line. I do not have a match where your Grandfather fits in. As Timothy said, your Great Grandpa's name would be very helpful. While Alice, sister Diane Bowman, and brother Edward (in Battle Creek in 1920) moved north to MI, John moved South to NE Arkansas, SE Missouri. As you find out more, please keep us posted.
Good Luck,
Charles (Rick) Ellis
Arkansas

Dawn.
Hello! Thanks for the inquiry. I'm unfamiliar with this Ellis family. I sent a link to this message to a distant cousin in Little Rock, Arkansas who has done more on the Ellis line, which is mostly from southern Indiana. Maybe he might find a connection to our family.
Have you found out your Ellis great-grandparents names yet? This would help.
Good Luck

Hello Tim,
Thanks for the great post! I am new at this. However, I do
want to let you know that my father was Bruce William Ellis,
born 2-2-1931 in Detoit, MI. My father died in 1990.His father's name was Lee Ellis. Lee was married twice (that
I know of) Once to his first wife--
(name unknown) that produced three children
Margeurite (spelling) a college professor in New Mexico, maybe still alive. Lee Ellis, (Jr-I think)an Air Force Captain/
pilot who died during Korean War testing a plane. Left a widow and 3 children. And Jean Ellis, who wed
and had 2 or 3 children --still alive I think. Jean lived
around the Midland area while raising her kids. My grandma,
the 2nd wife of Lee Ellis (Sr, I believe) was Lillian St. Aubin. She must have been partly French.
They lived in the Walled Lake area. She also
had many brothers
(6 or more) many descendents. Anyway hope this is
helpful in some way. My Grandpa Lee lived in Detroit, and
worked for Detroit Edison, they moved before my Dad was
grown -- to Gaylord, MI. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit.
I would love to hear from you. Is Ellis Scottish or English?
Or could be either one? Robert the Bruce was a famous
Scotsman, makes me think Dad was Scottish. Since his first
name was Bruce. Sorry to ramble on, have to run now. A reply
would be great. Have a little more info., and am going to ask relatives for info. soon.
Take care, and have a great holiday weekend.
Dawn (formerly Ellis) :)

I found a Laura Farnham, born in 1842, in Vermont residing in Essex County, Virginia in 1850. She is clearly listed as Laura Farnham. Father's name is difficult to decipher, but begins with a C. and he is born in Vermont about 1820. Mother is Eliza, born in Vermont.

In 1860, the Farnham family is in Union, SC. Laura is married to Albert Eubanks, also residing in Union. She is 17, no children listed. The Farnham family appears as C. W. Farner (tarner), children George, Taylor, Walter match ages to Essex, VA family. New children are Josephphene and Alice, born in SC. The handwriting and spelling in this portion of the census borders on the illiterate.
After 1880, I was unable to find either Albert or Laura.
Good luck with your search!

Your Mathew is a fifth generation descendant of Ralph and Alice (_______) Farnum, who came to Massachusetts on the James, leaving England in July 1635. Ralph's father was Henry Farnum, a sailor, and Mary _____. The line goes: Ralph 1 and Alice ___, Ralph 2 and Elizabeth Holt (daughter of Nicholas Holt); Ralph 3 and Sarah Sterling; Ralph 4 and Elizabeth Austin. Elizabeth's father was Capt. Mathew Austin, hence the given name. Ralph 1 disappeared from historical records ca. 1641, but Alice remarried, to Solomon Martin. He and Alice and her five children (and one or perhaps both of Solomon's children) removed to Andover, Massachusetts, in the early 1650's. Ralph 2 was born in England ca. 1633, but Ralph 3 and Ralph 4 were born in Andover, Mass., from whence Ralph 4 removed to Maine ca. 1712. The best authority is Russell C. Farnham's 1999 "The New England Descendants of the Immigrant Ralph Farnum."

Re: Charles Weldon Farnham/FARNAM b 1828, Bastard Twp Leeds Ont to Blue Earth MN, son of LYMAN

Dee,
I'm wondering if you have come across the maiden name of Lyman Farnham's wife, a date of death or place of burial for her?

I'm looking for an Almy Farnham named in the will of her brother, Alexander Long, in 1829 Prescott Co. Ontario. (Named as Alicia, if transcribed correctly, in her father, Zachariah Long's will also in 1829.)

Lyman's wife appears to be listed as Almi Farnum b. Vermont in the 1850 Census of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, and her age (49) does not fit the Almy I am looking for. But, in 1860 she lists her age as 69 which would fit the time period during which Almy Long's family was living in Castleton, Rutland Co. Vermont.

I have found no other records of Almy Long, nor any indication of what her husband's first name was.

This may be a huge leap in the wrong direction, but perhaps you have some additional clues that will help me to either confirm or dismiss this avenue of exploration?
Thank you.
Cindy Lowe lowe@frontiernet.net

Kennebec Journal
BELGRADE -- Frank P. Farnham, 88, died suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Inland Hospital in Waterville.
He was born in his parents' house in Belgrade on March 2, 1917, the son of George Bertram and Mabel (Page) Farnham. He never strayed far from his roots and, at the time of his death, still lived within a couple of miles of the place he was born and spent his life making a living off the land that has been in his family since 1840.For seven decades, he toiled in the fields, fighting drought, insects, vegetable-eating varmints, early frost, the heat and the rain. To hear him talk, he lost every battle, but he somehow managed to support a family and put three children through college. He also managed to help hundreds of local high school and college kids get their first job experience, buy school clothes, have spending money and gain the foundation that would help enable them to become solid citizens of many local communities.

His wife of 28 years, Claudia (Howard) Farnham, died in 1973. His second wife of 17 years, Cecelia (Dudley) Farnham, died in 1994. He is survived by two sisters, Lydia Johnson of Belgrade Lakes and Boca Raton, Fla., and by Lucille E. Sturtevant, of Medfield, Mass.; three children, Dawn Marie Farnham of Madison, N.H., and Duane Howard Farnham and Lynn Jeanette Farnham of Belgrade. Also surviving are a grandson, Stephen M. Farnham of Winslow, and a granddaughter, Rebecca L. Loehr of North Waterford, Vt.; other survivors include five great-grandchildren, several stepsons and a stepdaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Looking for any info on Laura Farnham. B:abt 1843 in Vermont. Death is unknown, but most likely in South Carolina. She married Albert Eubanks and had eight children. My subscription is up, so I can't view the census, but at least one of her parents was born in Vermont. She's listed on her children's DCs by various forms of her name, including Forinam.

Hi, My mother was Genevieve Lanphere, daughter of William Norris Lanphere and grand daughter of Asa Clark Lanphere. I have been e-mailing Roger H. He is decended from Asa Lanphere and the Farnhams. I located him on the internet and he gave me a name and e-mail that sounded like yours as someone who had been researching the Lanpheres and the Farnhams. When I tried it, I could not get through as it was no longer valid. I am wondering if you are that person. I am interested in knowing if there are any relatives in the Ripley area or elsewhere who have pictures or stories relating to Asa, Mary Jane and/or their children? I have two pictures of Asa and a couple stories that were told to me.
I sent out letters to several Lanphere names that I found in the Ripley white pages a few months ago but heard nothing back.I hope to hear from you and any other relative or interested person who reads this. Thanks, Sue

Hi Dee, I was so glad to find you. I will be in Ripley (poor timing since you will not be there) doing genealogy research from Sunday July 20 through the 23. I want to find Asa and Mary Jane's farm and go to the cemetery were they were buried. I have been talking to Nancy at the library and she may be of some help. Where would be the best place to research any records other than death certificates which I already have on them? Wish me luck. Sorry you will not be there. Keep in contact and have a wonderful vacation. Sue
