As you can see from my posting today my Asahel son of
Levi did not go west. I am not showing any Asa/ Asahel among the children of Levi's only brothers Ebenezer and Joel.
I notice from your Census entry that it says
Asa was born in NY and 2 children in NY. Have you found him in later Cenus? I could check for you.
Have you done a Google search with his name?
Here's one with NY and
Michigan connections and gives a location.-----------.
"FARNSWORTH, ARPHAX, M. D., of East Saginaw,
Michigan, son of
Deacon Asa Farnsworth, was born January 25th, 1829, in Lewis,
Essex county, N. Y. He labored on a farm until nineteen years of age, attending the district school during the winter season. He now found means to attend a select academy, and by a few months' close attention, prepared himself to teach a country school. He spent the intervening time until twenty-four years of age, alternately teaching in the winter and laboring in the summer, He now entered the
New York Central
College -a Manual
Labor Literary Institute- at McGrawville, N. Y. Here he spent three years of faithful, laborious study in preparation for future usefulness, and was regarded as an excellent student. While here, he became acquainted with Miss
Hattie L. Niles, of Amber, N. Y., whom, on October 10th, 1858, he married.. . ."

I'm seeking information on Samantha
Peck who was born about 1815 in
New York and married
Asa Farnsworth. They had the following children:
Volney,
Sophia,
Asa, Mary, and
Luther. They lived in Moira, NY.
I am doing a lot of Census work back in those days and have been amazed at how many times I've found middle names used as first names or even just initials. VT was sure loaded with Farnsworths back in the 1800's with huge families and names often repeated. My very limited records show 5 Ebenezer,
Levi and
Josephs. Also many remarried after being widowed.
Good luck with finding your
Asa, Asahel or even
Asher.
