I have a copy of “The First Admiril”, by Frederick A. Lane, copyright 1953, which I would like to get back in the hands of family members. The book is a juvenile historical biography about Farragut, and contains information about the early life of “Glasgow”, who spent his boyhood in a W. Florida plantation. Interested in any info related to William Lynn y Addison of Trinidad de Cuba, who married Elena Yurubi y Montalvan de Spotorno (sometmes rendered as Elena Georoviche Montalvan de Lynn), mother of Carlos Lynn y Georoviche, mayor; Luis Lynn, and Francisca Juliana Lynn y Georoviche de Lara. Also interested in Mercedes Crescencio Yurubi Montalvan who married Horatio Fox, US consul in Trinidad de Cuba.

George Nicholas Farragut was the "great" or "grand" nephew of Admiral Farragut. I have done quite a bit of research on this family. My mother-in-law's maiden name was Lily Farragut.

I have been told that our George N. Farragut born 1865-1866 in LA was related to Admiral Farragut. Does anyone have this George listed? He married Leda Corinne Santo Domingo 19 Aug 1900 and they had 4 children Charles C. Farragut, Marie Farragut, George N. Farragut and Victoria Farragut. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Georgiana, it's been some time since you replied to my inquiry in re my great grandmother, Mercedes Escasena Ferragut. Since then, I have found out that she was married to my great grandfather Eligio Lopez Dias, of Malaga. After he died, she remarried and moved to Texas with her two children, one of whom was my grandfather Eliseo Lopez Escasena. My grandfather later returned to Cuba, but I don't know when.
I would appreciate hearing from you again. Perhaps with the additional information we might be able to locate our relatives in Texas. I know that she had more children with her second husband.

Georgiana, my great grandmother was Mercedes Escasena Ferragut. She was from Trinidad, Cuba, but remarried in the late 1800's and moved to Texas. I'm sure your great grandfather and my great grandmother were siblings. Please get in touch with me as I would like to find descendants of Mercedes.

My greatgrandmother was Mercedes Escasena Ferragut of Trinidad, Cuba. She remarried in the late 1800's and moved to Texas. I'm looking for descendants of Mercedes. Georgina Logan had an inquiry looking for descendants of Alfredo Escasena Ferragut of Cuba. Mercedes and this gentleman must have been brother and sister.

Hi, I have just received from a relative a copy of my father's birth certificate. I see that my father's paternal grandmother was Mercedes Escasena y Ferragut who moved to Texas (I assume from Cuba).

I would greatly apreciate hearing from possible descendants of Mercedes Escasena Ferragut.

It's amasing. I always thought my family was unique while I was in Cuba. We didn't know anyone with the same last name. Coming to United States did open my eyes because I have met over the internet some Ferraguts from Cuba (not directly related to me). Now you are informing me about some of your ancestors with Ferragut as last names and you have lots of information about your ancestors.
My grandfather, Navidad Ferragut, was born in Las Villas, Cuba on November 17, 1875, and my great-grandfather, Nadal Ferragut, was born in Palmas, Mallorca between 1845 and 1850 and married Teresa Leiva in Cuba. Nadal's parents were Bartolome Ferragut and Magdalena Capo (both from Mallorca). Here is where I got stuck because I can't find any documents telling me where in Mallorca or when they were born and that has stop my research for my ancestors on this branch of my genealogy.
I appreciate you sending me your data but I don't know the relationship if any that exists. I have found hundreds of Ferraguts existing today in different parts of Mallorca and I don't even know where to start.

*was the son of Doña Teresa Ferragut y Altamirante b: 4/20/1816, Havana, Cuba

*she was the daughter of Don Sebastian Ferragut López Ma Dolores Altamirante de HIta, of Mayorca who were married in Mayorca 6/22/1810

*Miguel Ferragut and Gertrudis López were the parent of Sebastian, and were both of Mayorca, about 1770.

I am looking for more information on David G. Farragut. My family is related to him - he is the great (and then some) uncle to me from my mother's side of the family. I believe that most of the Farraguts still reside in the Mississippi, Lousisianna, Alabama and Tenessee areas.

George Farragut b. September 29, 1755 in Ciudadela
Minorca, Spain. His parents were Anthony Farragut
and Juana Mesquita. George Farragut married
Elizabeth Shine b. 1795 in Dobbs County, North
Carolina. Their issue were William A.C., David Glasgow(James),
Nancy, George, and Elizabeth. George died at Point Plaquet,
West Pascagoula, Mississippi.

William A.C. Farragut was David G. Farragut's brother. He was also a Naval Officer.
William was Commissioned a Liutenant in the U.S. Navy on December 9, 1814 on the reserve list.
He died at New Orleans on the 20th of December 1859. The letter it was taken from was written
by a Commander Rousseau dated April 9, 1860.

Their father was George Farragut and their mother was Elizabeth Shine. I would like to find out
the names of their sisters.

I have some information on the Farragut's. Not as much as I would like to have, but I have been able thus far trace back my family line to Admiral Farraguts sister. The one married to the blockade runner Lynn. I am still looking into that. I need to get David Farragut's brothers and sisters names from the Farragut family and not the Porter family. I thought at one time that I had that information, but I can't seem to find it in all of my material.

I believe that David Glasgow Farraguts sister was living in New Orleans at the time he captured the city. She was married to a blockade runner with the last name of Lynn. The two mysteriously escaped and fled to Cuba where they made a life for themselves. I have seen their grave stone in the cemetary in Trinidad, Cuba. I am interested in learning about the Farraguts before his adoption by Admiral Porter. Do you know where I can find this information?

Are you related to Admiral David Glasgow FARRAGUT of the 1860 Union Army? I am searching for the current whereabouts of the Admiral's great grandniece, "Mina" Farragut who was born 1917 in Mississippi, and was a movie actress in 1940 and later. I have not been able to pick up her trail - difficult if she married since I would not have that surname.

I'm trying to determine if I'm actually related to David Farragut. My great-great-grandfather, Ramon Dobarganes y Sotolongo, born in Havana, Cuba, married a Margarita Ferragut y Moya, also born in Havana. Dates not available at the moment. Ramon was a contemporary of Jose Marti and is mentioned in some of Marti's letters published on the Internet. They lived, after 1883, in Key West (where my great-grandfather, Aurelio Esteben, and my grandfather, Aurelio Maxwell Dobarganes were born) with their five children according to the Fla. Census.
I have a letter from one of Ramon's relatives - the wife of his son Geraldo or Gerardo - who states Margarita was the child of David G. Farragut. Is this possible? Historical record indicates Farragut had only one child, Loyall, by his second wife, Virginia. I know Farragut sailed to many ports, including Veracruz, Key West, Havana, Buenos Aires, etc. Another distant relative whom I have been in contact with believes Margarita Ferragut's family was from Matanzas Province, Cuba. I find it interesting that Ramon traveled by ship to New York City in 1879 where Loyall lived and that my great-grandfather, Aurelio Esteben, went there to get married to America Curry, 10 years later, when they both lived in Key West.

Ramon Dobarganes y Sotolongo, born May 31, 1842, Havana, Cuba.
Margarita Ferragut y Moya, born June 6, 1846, Havana, Cuba.
I should have stated that Ramon's first-born son, Aurelio Esteben Dobarganes (my great-grandfather), was born in Havana, Cuba, not Key West, on Sept. 2, 1867. He married America Louise Curry, Sept. 5, 1889, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, New York, NY. Their son (my grandfather), Aurelio Maxwell Dobarganes, was born in Key West, July 22, 1892.
By the way, Jose Julian Marti was born in Habana Vieja (Old Havana), Jan. 28, 1853, to Spanish parents, Mariano Marti Navarro and Leonor Perez Cabrera. Mariano was born in Valencia, Spain, and Leonor was born in the Canary Islands.
