I was looking for Lyman Farrand who was on the 1860 census report of Dodge County, WI with Wm. Stark and Jemima Hyde. He had apparently joined them in their journey from Colchester, VT. He was enumerated as being 23 years of age. A 25 year old female enumerated as Adeline Farrand, 10 year old John Hyde and 5 year old Abie Hyde were with the Hydes. The 1850 VT census names a 15 year old Adeline Hyde in addition to a baby John. According to my father Henry Hyde, Wm. and Jemima had taken baby John after his German immigrant parents had died. It is very likely that the Adeline Hyde is the Adeline Farrand of later entries. Sometime after 1860, the family moved into western WI and settled in Richland Co. In the 1870 Forest Twsp, Richland Co. census Lyman is enumerated as the head of a family including Eliza (Elizabeth), Wm. H. 3, John 2, and a baby, George. On an 1873 plat of Forest twsp. Lyman has a forty acre property near where the Hydes settled and adjacent to a forty owned by a 37 year old female "D_____?" Farrand born in New York, an 8 yr. Adelineborn in VT, a 6 yr "G_____?" son born in WI and a 65 year old male "Curtis _____?" I haven't located any information about Lyman and family nor Adeline since the 1870.
The Abie of the 1860 census was apparently born on Macomb, NY. She married a David Parker and by 1880 they and two of their children had moved to the Dakota Territory and are on the census for Minnehaha County, Dell Rapids census. They are known to have moved back to the Vernon County area of western WI by the 1900 census. There are no 1890 census reports for these entities. I sense that the Lyman Farrand family may have also gone to Dakota. It is interesting to me to note that there are adjacent "Lyman" and "Hyde" counties in South Dakota near the area of Pierre; ony a hunch.
The baby John of the 1850 census became my paternal grandfather and our family remained in the Richland County, WI where I live at this date.
This is an interesting path of events and I would be interested in the travels of the famiy from Wm. H onward and information regarding the older Adeline. I am also trying to establish a possibyle relationship between the Hydes, probably Jemima and the "Abie" they got in NY and took into their family. You may, if interested, contact me at any time.
