Hi Randi,
Gunder Guttormsen Borgard is my 1st cousin 3 times removed and recently discovered they emigrated from Gausdal. It took me a while to find out where they ended up but was finally successful - first in Vernon County, Wisconsin and then Summit Township in Lake County, South Dakota. I would be interested in how you are related - Gunder's father is Guttorm Svendsen and I have traced that family back. I look forward to hearing from you.
Marcia Evenson Johnson
from Minnesota

Max Farrand is one of the greatest American historians. His work on the proceeding of the Constitutional Convention is cited as authority on the thinking of the founding fathers in Supreme Court cases. Anyone studying Constitutional Law runs into his name constantly. He was a professor at Yale and I believe he has a son with the same name who is now a Yale professor.
Suzanne

Anyone know of Katharine Farrand (da. of John and Margaret Driscoll), b. ca. 1886? Katharine Farrand had three daughters (all in the 1920 census): Katharine H., Margaret A., and Edith. Am wondering if one of the daughters could have been the (single) mother to Katharine E. Farrand (Dyer), mentioned in another thread. In 1920, the Driscolls and Farrands all lived together in Shiawassee Twp, Michigan. Thanks!

I believe he is the son of Samuel Ashbel Farrand and Louise Wilson, b. 29 Mar 1869 in Newark, NJ and d. 17 Jun 1945 in Reef Point, Bar Harbour, ME. He was married to Beatrix Cadwalader Jones, a famous landscape architech and neice of novelist Edith Wharton. Max was a Historian, Librarian - Professor at Wesleyan University, CT. He was the grandson of Samuel Farrand and Mary (Polly) Kitchell. I can't seem to find my source for this, but there is a lot of information on his wife, Beatrix Cadwalder Jones, and that's probably where I got it. Hope this helps.

Here's new information I have found: Lyman Eber Farrand was born 1839 in Cuyahoga Co. Ohio. Both of his parents were from Vermont. He and his sister Adeline were apparently raised by his mother Geininca and her second husband William Hyde in Fall River, Wisconsin. No word on his father's name, but I think we must have a strong connection here somewhere.

He joined Huntington’s Co (B) of the 7th Wisconsin Regiment of US Volunteers on May 11, 1861, during the Civil War. Discharged in 1862 with an injury. He met Eliza Buck and they moved to Dakota Territory where they had five boys: William Henry, born May 24, 1865, George Lyman, born Oct 2, 1869, John Freeman, Ardell and Herbert.

Hello Harry,

I've just started researching one Lyman GRANDY that married Rebecca FARRAND, 1798 in Addison Co., Vermont. 1820 and 1830 they were in Cayuga Co., NY, and between 1838 and 1839 they moved from NY to Jackson Co., MI where I find them on the 1840 census. I'm researching their son, Luther F. Grandy, born 1804 in Vermont, who in turn had a son named William O. Grandy, all ending up in Jackson Co., MI. Are these the same people as yours?
Thanks,
Teddy in CA

Yes, Rebecca Farrand was the daughter of Bethuel and Rhoda Farrand and a younger sister to Moses, my ancestor. Moses named a son Lyman G. Farrand - given the naming patterns of his other children, I would not be surprised if it turned out that this Lyman's middle name was Grandy.

There is a good deal of information to be shared about the Farrands, but I have very little concerning Lyman Grandy.

I too am a descendant from Bethuel and Rhoda Farrand.
Their eldest son Daniel is my ancestor and it then descends to Robert P. Farrand and his son Silas D. Farrand who was my GGgrandfather. Phoebe Plum who married Daniel is a direct descendant of Robert Treat, Colonial Governor of Conn.
and founder of Newark, NJ. (Look him up on the computer)
Phobe was also descended from Azeba?? Crane . This man married Robert Treat's daughter Mary. He was called "King" Crane because he had his fingers in so many ventures in NJ.
So if you are descended from Daniel Farrand , you have some
worth while ancestors from NJ. I am gathering information to join the DAR . I live in North Carolina, but recently went to NJ
visited Bethuel, Daniel, Phoebe 's graves In Parsippany. There are other Farrand, Wards, Balls , Quimbys etc. graves.
All on the computer (Vail Cemetery, Parsippany).
I , also , have a full listing of graves in Bloomfield, NJ. about
50 Farrand and family links to Daniel's children and Henry's children.
Please send me your family pages to Barbara Farrand, 2001 Plum Tree Lane, Hendersonville, NC. 28739.
Send me your snail address and I will forward you my family pages. and any other info that you would be interested in.
Thanks
.Barbara Farrand Umstot
