Obit: Anna Marie (Farrar) Rankin of Nebraska (1920-2007)

Anna Marie Rankin the daughter of Fred and Amanda (Nelson) Farrar was born on June 14, 1920 at Genoa, Nebraska. Marie was raised on a farm by Monroe, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Church at Monroe. She attended rural school at Platte County District #55 for 8 years then graduated from Monroe High School in 1938. After graduation, she worked at Tooley Drug Store and at the Chamber of Commerce in Columbus.
On July 3, 1943 Marie was united in marriage to Leonard Rankin. They farmed in Platte County for about 5 years and then moved to Boone County. Marie spent her life as a farmer’s housewife and mother. She dedicated her life to caring for her family. She enjoyed her time spent putting puzzles together and playing UNO and Connect Four with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Scrabble lover and was always ready to play with family and friends. Marie loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She prided herself in her cooking and always had the coffeepot on when a neighbor would stop. Marie is a member of the Shell Creek Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, NE. On Monday, December 17, 2007 Marie completed her life journey at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE at 87 years of age.
She is survived by 4 children: Vernice Hobbs and husband William of San Antonio, TX; Sally Read and husband Mark of Lincoln, NE; Ken and wife Wilma; and Wayne and wife Connie all of Albion, NE; 7 grandchildren: Stacy Kempker and husband David, Jeffery Rankin and wife Gina, Katie Rankin, Pam Rankin, Jason Rankin, Robert Rankin and wife DaNeal, and Renae Guthard and husband Darren; 7 great-grandchildren: Brittany Kempker, Gage, Connor, and Ellie Rankin, Ethan and Sydney Guthard, and Macy and Myah Rankin; sisters-in-law: Verlyn Farrar, Fern Rankin, and Dorothy Rasmussen; along with many other relatives and friends.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in1979, and her brother Francis Farrar.
