Surnames: Farrelly, Ferguson, Fergusson, O'Fergus, O'Farrelly
Hello Kevin,
As part of the Fergus(s)on DNA Project I am researching the relationship between the O'Fergus on the O'Farrelly as described below. We have DNA samples from two different FERGUSON lines from Rossinver and would like to compare to a FARRELLY line from Drumlane. Do you think you would be willing to help?
Cheers,
Colin FERGUSON

The O'Clery Book of Genealogies these two families are said to be descended from Ailill son of Eoghan, as below.

§725 Genelach .H. Forchellaigh [O'Farrelly]
There is a family of this name, erenaghs of Drumlane, in Co. Cavan;
Also found in the parish of Mullagh in the same county, but it's not certain this is the same family.
§727 O Ferghusa Rosa Inbir [O'Fergus]
An erenagh family of Rossinver, Co. Leitrim

These notes are from "The Irish Genealogist", Vol. 5, No. 6 Nov. 1979, "English Index to the O'Clery Genealogies", F.B. Payton.

Surnames: Farrelly, Lynch
Can you go back past your grandfather? My grandmother (born 1872 and died 1933) was a Farrelly from Kildorough, Ballyjamesduff just down the road from Virginia. Her parents were Patric and Catherine (Lynch) Farrelly

My Farrellys variously stated they were from Cormaddyduff or Ballyjamesduff- different info is given on different records. Michael, Patrick, James and John, were the children of John and Margaret Farrelly. The boys left Cormaddyduff around 1863 and came to Australia where they stayed with Patrick Lynch, a farmer of Balmain, who was presuably a relative.
