CLOVER - Marvin Gene Farris, 88, of 3401 Henry Knob Road, Clover, S.C., died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Clover, with the Revs. Tommy Wilkes and Drew Martin officiating. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Mr. Farris was born in Cleveland County, N.C., on June 1, 1923, to the late Marvin Albert and Eula Cochrane Farris. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Arlie Brown Farris. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Farris was raised in the Bethany community and graduated from Bethany High School. He operated a family dairy and delivered pasteurized milk in the Clover area for a number of years. He also worked as a Ford automobile salesman, an insurance adjuster for several years and served as York County magistrate before retiring to the farm where he raised beef cattle. Mr. Farris was a member of First United Methodist Church and the longest living past master of Alpine Lodge # 208.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn F. Connelly and husband, Page, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Ann F. Little and husband, Jimmy, of Mount Holly, N.C.; sons, Larry Farris and wife, Peggy, of Rock Hill, Robert Farris and wife, Carolyn, of Charlotte, N.C., Bubba Farris and wife, Patty, of York, S.C., and Kenneth Farris and wife, Renee, of Clover; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
