I have no connection to this family, but found this while doing other research. This appeared in the Aug. 30, 1892 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier-Gazette in an article entitled “People Talked About – Well Known County Men Now Before the Public.”
“Edward S. Farwell. Republican Nominee for Sheriff. Edward S. Farwell was born in Unity, Me. Oct. 20, 1953, the son of Jewett Farwell, who was brother to Hon. Nathan A. Farwell, Joseph Farwell and the late Judge Willard Farwell.
“He received his education in the district school at Unity and at the Maine Central Institute at Pittsfield. He left home at 18 and for a year sought a change from the hard work of the farm in sea coasting, making two or three trips in the course of the year. When about 20 years of age he came to Rockland and entered the employ of Snow, Farwell & Co., continuing with them for about four years. He has commanded a number of our finest vessels, proved himself a very able ship-master and earned the praise alike of his employers and of those who have sailed with him in various capacities. Among the vessels of which he has been master are the following: Schooners Joseph Farwell, Sarah F. Bird, H.C. Higginson, Ira B. Ellems, Nathan F. Cobb and the Brigadier.
“Capt. Farwell was married in 1876 to Miss Addie E. Gregory of this city.”
