My husband's Mother's great grandfather was James Riley Faughn. His son, James William, born 1864 in Porter's Bluff, Texas, married Dora Tennessee Cates. Their son, William H. Faughn was married to Senia Ann Wafer in Corsicana, Texas about 1813. Pauline, my husband's mother, was born in Corsicana in 1915. I have quite a bit of Faughn information and would love to share and know what you have.

Hi Carol. I have made some progress since we last exchanged email. I found a death certificate for my Great-Grandfather Daniel M. Faughn (1865-1949). The death certificate indicates his father's name was Daniel. Still no luck on connecting them to Sanders P. Faughn.

Related to Sanders P. Faughn, there is a death certificate for Martha A. Faughn. S.P. Faughn signed the certificate as 'informant'. She died January 13, 1911....shortly before his death in 1916. Does this make sense to you? I found a civil war record for S.P.D. Faughn, in Confederate service 1861-1864. Is this the same Sanders Faughn? Do you know what the 'D' stands for?

Donna

In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at my personal email address: dfdun@comcast.net.

Thank you for your response!

Donna

Donna,

I am not sure if there is a connection or not. However, with a name like Sanders, I think there is a possibility.

I trace my Faughn line back to a possible Sanders P. Faughn. 2nd great grandad William Henry Faughn b. 1856 , had a brother or uncle Sanders P. Faughn b. 1839 Kentucky. The reason I am unsure of the relationship, is that I find very little evidence of Sanders P. Faughn's life. I know he was wonded in the Civil War. I know he died March 3,1916 in Greene Co., AR (very close to the Missouri border) and that alot of this family of Faughns all migrated from Kentucky, to New Madrid & Pemiscot Co., MO and then on down to Dunklin Co., MO and on to Greene Co., Ar. I know Sanders is related because William's son Henry was the executor of Sanders estate (which was teensy). At the time he arrived in Ar. I believe he was single as I never find any mention of a Mrs. Faughn. I do have his death certificate, civil war paperwork and probate record.

It just seems with a name like this, it is highly likely they are related in some way.

Carol

I am looking for information on Daniel Faughn, born In IL abt. 1864, and Mark Faughn, born IL abt. 1860. Both seem to have been married to Hannah. Their son, Sanders, born 1907 in MO, was my grandfather. Hannah also had a daughter, Mary J. I found Sanders with Daniel and Hannah in 1930 Census. In 1920, Hannah, Sanders and Mary J. are with Mark Faughn. Any information about these people would be greatly appreciated.

Donna

Dear Cousins,
Perhaps we can join forces???
I'm trying to get together as many Faulkner men/boys as I can to participate in a Faulkner DNA study. I hope you'll all be interested and willing. Since I obviously do not fit the men/boys/fathers/sons/grandsons profile, I am unable to participate.

Those whose ancestry goes back to Virginia and or Kentucky seem to me to be most likely related.

The costs depend on numbers involved, but probably about $100.00 each.

Procedure: obtain a kit, swab inside a cheek for a short time, & place the swab in provided container. -- If there is a large enough number involved the cost per person drops -- people tested need to be sons of Faulkner men of whatever generation.

Do you think that you and your brothers and sons would be interested and willing?

So far my brother is and at least one nephew is.

If so, I'll check out the details further and let you know.
Hello, I hope this finds you well. Finally a breakthrough! I've been searching the Faughn line forever. Not really, only 56 years. My dad Charles Edwin Faughn left my mom and I when I was 6 mos. old. His dad was James Darby Faughn. James' dad was John Joshua Faughn. It goes back to William Faughan who died in Surry Co. Virginia in 1758. I believe the James Faughn you have is the son of William who was born in 1735. Please share, I'd be forever grateful. Thank you, Michael O. Faughn

I hope I can help you on Mary Jane Faughn Sherbut. -
she was named after her mother Mary Jane Stovall the daughter of David and Eliza Stovall.

According to my deceased uncle Alfred Faughn. Mary Jane Stovall Faughn died at the birth of Mary Jane ""Mollie"...

Her father - "my gr grandfather" John H. Faughn carried her to the home of his brother Uncle Tom Faughn in a shoe box and she was raised by them.

I do have picture of my grandmother Martha Ann and Mary Jane in older life. My grandmother was her half sister and the d/o John H and Mildred Litchfield Faughn.

Betty Sellers

Thank you Mavis for your answer and informing me what was in the old bible. I find I have listed James Faughn who married Elizabeth Adams as a brother of John F instead of a son.

Thank you so much!... Somewhere in my papers I do have the permission from Elizabeth's father for her to marry James Faughn.

Do you possibly own a digital camera.. and could send me a .jpg personal I would appreciate it.

Betty Sellers

Thanks for the info.
I have the death certificate for Sanders P. Faughn. If this is the same one! He died in Arkansas.

This Sanders P. Faughn died March 3,1916 in Greene Co., AR. Death cert. states he was born 1839 or 1840, so it fits the date for Sam'l P./Sanders P. Faughn husband of Martha.

I believe that Sanders is closely related to William Henry Faughn. W.H. Faughn moved from Missouri to Greene Co., AR. His son William Henry Faughn, Jr. (called Henry) signed the death certificate for Sanders P. Faughn, so I know they were related. I haven't had the Faughn paperwork out in quite some time, but I think I have an old estate paper of Sanders. I will have to look.

I also have the following info from some records at our genealogy library

Civil War Pension
Faughn, S.P.
23137
G Co. 4th Kentucky Reg. Inf. 1861-65
wounded in forehead, shoulder and leg.

It might be a good idea to send for his pension paperwork. He would have filed in Arkansas.

Also,
1880 New Madrid Co., MO
pg. 300B
FAWN, William 23 head
E.J. 20 wife
Malissa 6/12 daughter
I just came across that in my Faughn book. I'll have to go look for Sanders.

I would be more than happy to scan you a copy of the death certificate and any others I might have on this family. You can email me at postalq@grnco.net I would love more information on Sanders P. Faughn, maybe we can help each other.

Carol

Ok this is a long shot, but maybe somebody can help. I was certain the name was spelled Vaughn (as it is how I find it 1900 on) but then I sent away for for SSN aplications, and my search begins again!
Looking for info on George Vaughn or James Faughn (yes two siblings have two different names on their applications)... married Mary Lou Clark ca 1882 in Kentucky, possibly Missouri. However by 1890 he is deceased.
Three children came from thi marriage: Jeannie 1885 (Male, later spelled Gene) Jodie (male) 1883 and Martha (Mattie) 1887
This is a long shot, but thought maybe somebody had notes on this branch and were waiting to connect.
I hope somebody can help! In the meantime, good luck to you all as well!
I have connections to the Trigg Co. Faughns. I have a Sanders P. Faughn, who was born in 1839 in Ky. (there was a Sanders P. Faughn b. 1814 on the census in Trigg Co., KY) I believe the name is too unusual not to be related. I have Sanders (1839) death certificate. It shows he was wounded in the civil war and that he died in 1916 in Greene Co., AR. His death cert. was signed by Henry Faughn. Henry is the son of William Henry Faughn, who married Elizabeth Jane Westerman. They migrated, along with my Atwood family, from Trigg Co., Ky to several different locations in Missouri, eventually ending up in Greene Co., AR along with the Atwoods.

Surely the Faughns of Trigg are all connected somehow?

Carol
