Gasper Faught in Kentucky circa 1812-1818

The Shelby County,KY. Gasper Faught needs to be further researched.I have researched the Gasper Faught , born in Virginia in 1763;who,was recorded in court and Indian Agency records in the area that is now east- Tennessee and north-Georgia[Cherokee Nation] from about 1791; to ,at least, 1805.

I suspect the Gasper Faught found in Shelby County, Ky. records may be the Tennessee Gasper.I Have the Shelby County, Ky. Gasper's War of 1812 record. I recently obtained a copy of his 1815 Warrant[application], Survey and Grant[deed] for 150-acres on Flat Creek in Shelby County. The Circuit Court-Warrant stated he lived on the land with his family as early as February 1815.
I have a copy of the 1818 Revolutionary War Pension Application for Levi Wentworth that was signed by Gasper Faught. Therefore , he was alive as late as 1818.

Anyone reading this post, who lives- in - or near Kentucky can contribute to the search for Gasper Faught and his Shelby County Kentucky - family by searching KY. archives for a Shelby County deed for the sale of Gasper's land; or for a Will or Probate Record should he died before it was sold.
I have not been able to determine his age, when he died , nor the name of his wife and children.Your help will be greatly appreciated by all with Faught - ancestors from early Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky!

Steve, I believe you have seen some of my later posts and my family tree in Ancestry.com that answers some of your questions about the origination of your Fautt -family name.I believe you and I are descendants of the Giles County, TN. families of Samuel [1790], and Wiley B.[Willy] 1799.; who were brothers. Both had children with similar names, eg:Madison and Samuel. I am not sure from which the Fautt -name originated.
After much research, I have selected Gasper [1763], over William,Circa [1770], to have been Samuel[1790] and Wiley B.'s father.Perhaps I am wrong! Any one with documents shows Samuel[1763] and Wiley B.[1799]'s father was William [Circa 1770],is invited to offer proof; for I have not been able to find it!

Re: Faught Cherokee Connection

Wayne, thanks for contacting me.You may already know I have a family tree under the name Blucher Louis Faught in Ancestry .com that lists some of the documents I used during my research of Gasper Faught. One ,concerning the building of Chief Vann's house at Spring Place is "Records of the Moravians Among the Cherokees; Volume Two,1802-1805.by Crews & Starbuck". It is the only eye witness account I have found concerning the building of the Vann-House.Therein, "Mr. Vogt" is listed as the builder.Vogt is the German version of the American - spelling of Gasper's name while in Tennessee and the Cherokee Nation,eg:Gasper Vaught,Faught, Faut and Fought.
Concerning Charles Faught; he was listed as a student in the Moravian school under the name Charles Vogt.[Listed in Volume Three of the Moravian Records] He was born in 1803-04 as Charles Vogt. In 1835, he was listed as Charles or Charlie Faught, aka Charles Vogt, in the census of the Georgia-Cherokees to be removed to the Indian Territory. His wife was listed as Nancy[Dick]Faught; and his children were Wheeler, Eli and Margaret.[One other, Elizabeth, was not listed].In Going Snake District, Oklahoma, the 1842 census of Cherokees lists Nancy as 'widow of Charles Faught", and children as Eli,Wheeler,Peggy and Betsy. Note; named after Peggy & Betsy Scott of Spring Place. While Charles was listed in the 1835 Georgia Cherokee census, he was not in the later 1836-1838 Cherokee ration books maintained by the US Army in Georgia. He is thought to have died before 1838; when Nancy and children were sent to Oklahoma. New subject: Proof that Gasper was the builder Mr. "Vogt" in Spring Place, is based upon his presence in Look Out Mountain Valley, with Major Lovely,an Indian Agent,in 1802, when Gasper "Vaught" built a house for Major William Lovely; and a Tavern at Brown's Ferry for Cherokee ,Chief Brown. Major Lovely then moved to Spring Place to be near Chief James Vann, who was instrumental to the building of a Federal road through the Cherokee Nation from Tennessee to Georgia. At the same time, the Moravian missionaries at Spring Place, wrote in their German - diaries, on 20 July,1803,"Mr. Vogt, who was hired by Mr Vann to build a house for him---came." In Gasper's 1805 letter to the Indian Agency, he would have finished work on the Vann house;but, still wished to remain in the Nation with his family. What remains the mystery is: Was his family Cherokee Indian or American frontier-folks? Was he, or an older son, the husband of a Cherokee wife, and the father of Charles Faught? I hope this helps in your research. Should you should have more questions, please contact me. Robert

robertfaught90, I'm actually very interested in the Cherokee named Charles Faught. I'm actually researching on Chief James Vann, and his house on Diamond Hill. It was believed that Charles Vogt(Faught) originally built the house; however, after reading your write up, "Did Gasper Faught marry a cherokee" I'm sure he did not. I was wondering if you can provide me with any additional detail on either Gasper Faught or Charles Vogt (Faught). Or how you came across all of your facts when writing "Did Gasper Faught marry a cherokee."

I have used the message board over the years to collect info to work on my family tree. The public tree, under the name, Blucher Louis Faught, is now on Ancestry. com. It still needs some more work, but is a good place for you to collect info on John Paul Vogt of Virginia and his son Casper/Gasper Faught's family. It also contains updated info on Alabama and Tennessee- Faught families claiming Virginia ancestry through Gasper Faught[b.1763] of Tennessee. Those that are familiar with my research, know I claimed William as the father of my g g grandfather Samuel[b. 1790] of Giles County,TN.I now believe there is more proof that it was Gasper of Tennessee. Those having corrections to my tree may comment to this message with details. Note: The tree contains info of interest to researchers of early Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia Faught families

NANCY FAUGHT[1769-1849] OF GILES COUNTY, TN.

Buried in the Old Salem Cemetery in Giles County are Nancy Faught[1769-1849],Samuel Faught [1790- 1857] and Wiley B. Faught[1799-1841]. I believe they were mother and sons.I believe she is the wife of William Faught, who lived circa 1760s-1830s. Sometimes inaccurate tax and census records show William's wife was 21+ in 1816;26-45 in 1820;and 40-50 in 1830.
Nancy was in Giles County when she died in 1849. Searching Faught house holds in the last census before she died [1840], did not turn up anyone her age. However, in the house hold in the Salem Church neighborhood near the Faughts was an elderly female between 70-79 years old.She was living with Joseph Inman, age 60-69 and his wife, age 40-49. In the 1850 census Joseph has left Giles County, or perhaps passed away.
The Inman/Faught connection was very strong within the Samuel and Wiley B.Faught family.Samuel was a neighbor of a James Inman on Lick Creek in Hickman County, TN. in 1808, and a Joseph Inman signed the bond for Samuel's marriage to Nancy Dean Faught in Williamson County,TN,in 1810.Shortly thereafter, a William, John, Isham and Moses Faught appear in War of 1812 Hickman County militia along with the Inmans. Issac Inman married a Faught from this family and,in the 1850 Giles County Census, there was a James C. Inman , age 29,married to Wiley B. Faught's daughter, Francis, age 28. Living with them is Francis' brother,Plesant M Faught.---
Has any Faught/Inman family researcher : [1] determined if Nancy was William Faught's wife? [2] Was she living in the Joseph Inman household upon her death in 1849?

Hi. I'm descendant of Caspar Gaspar Faught, through William B.Faught, Samuel J. Faught, Madison T. Fautt, William Madison Fautt Sr., William Madison Fautt Jr., Horace Bunyan Fautt, and Betsy Jean Fautt (my mother). I have a bit of information, mostly supplied from records that Ancestry.com has, and some from other trees.

I wondered if I had jumped to another tree since the name changed from Vautt to Faught to Fautt over the years. But maybe that just happens.

If you'd like to see my tree, I can set you up to see it. Or you might find it, it's public. It's the Fautt-Poteet-Beam-Cleveland tree.

Faught Cherokee Connection

I am glad to see there are still posts concerning the Tennessee and Alabama Faught family's Connection to the Cherokee Tribe before the Trail of Tears. There are so many unanswered questions!
I am a descendant of Samuel [Blind Sam]Faught of Giles County ,TN. He was born in VA. in 1790. He married Nancy Dean in 1810 in Williamson County,TN. He and Nancy are buried in the Old Salem Cemetery in Giles County. I am the great grandson of John J. Faught of Giles County. He and wife Clara Hudson moved to Hardeman County, TN. in the 1830s.They died in Tipton County,TN. I am the grandson of Henry J. Faught, who died in Tipton County, TN. in 1909. I am the son of Blucher Louis Faught who died in Baton Rouge, LA. in 1953.
There is one way my Giles County ancestors could be connected to the Cherokees prior to the Trail of Tears.
That is through the marriage of Samuel Faught and Nancy Dean.If it can be proved that she was the daughter or grand daughter of Jessee Dean of the Wofford Settlement in Franklin County, GA.in the 1790s,and the Jessee Dean families in White/Warren and Williamson and Hickman County, TN., then,Nancy may have a Cherokee connection. Others I believe were in GA., TN. or the Cherokee Nation in the late 1790s-early 1800s were :
John Harrison Faught of Early Alabama. He is said to have married Nancy Manasco in TN. about 1805. Other Faughts of that period married Inmans. The Faught, Manasco and Inman families seem to have been together near Lookout Mountain in the Cherokee Nation as early as 1802-5,in White/Warren Counties, TN. in 1806, in Hickman County, TN. during the Creek War/ War of 1812-period. John Harrison, Samuel, Wiley Blount, William Faught, and several Manascos and Inmans, moved to AL. Some remained in AL., while, others moved back to Giles and Lawrence Counties TN. during the 1820s.

I believe the main connection with the Cherokees before the Trail of Tears in 1838 was through Gasper Faught/Fought/Vaught/Vogt while he and his family were in the Cherokee Nation.[ 1799-1805?] I have a record from 1805 that Gasper wished to remain in the Nation longer with his family. One can assume this family may have included Samuel[1790], Wiley Blount[1799], John Harrison, and possibly David,Isham, Moses and Levi. One or more of the children of this generation may have married Cherokees.----

Gasper Faught is certainly a candidate to be Samuel Faught [1790]s father----.However, there is still William, about the same age as Gasper, to figure-out!! Myself and some other researchers believe William was the husband of Nancy Blount Faught, and she was the mother of Samuel and Wiley Blount Faught. She died in Giles County, TN. in 1849.The three are buried in the Old Salem Cemetery in Giles County. I believe Wiley Blount Faught and Samuel, my great grandfather were brothers to John Harrison Faught.

Much-much more research on Gasper and William is required to figure-out how Gasper and William are connected to my family.
I have collected a good-bit of info on Cherokees listed as Faughts in Federal records and have researched the Cherokee named Charles Faught who's family went to Oklahoma in 1838 along the Trail of Tears. If anyone is interested,I will post some of it.
Faught to Fautt?

My mother was a Fautt. I started tracing backwards, and it appears the family name was Faught until the early/mid 1800s. Does this make sense? The lineage I have, if it's right is like this:
Samuel Faught (1790-1857)
Madison T. Fautt (1843-1916)
William Madison Fautt Sr. (1860-1910)
William Madison Fautt Jr. (1886-1949)
Horace B. Fautt (1912-1978)
Betsy J. Fautt (1935-2010)
Me.
Does this sound right? Or have I strayed from the Fautt path somewhere back in the early 1800s?
John Paul Vogt, ,Patriarch of the Colonial Virginia Faught and Vaught Families

A Vaught blog has been established that provides maps and photos of the early sites in Orange and Augusta Counties, VA. that Johan Paul Vogt settled. His sons Andrew and Casper{Gasper]'s descendants, moved south and westward after the French and Indian War. Andrew and his family spelled their name" Vaught". Several Vaught websites follows Andrews line in great detail: the latest being vaughtfamilyhistory.com.
Johan Paul Vogt's other son,Casper/Gasper's descendants are much-much harder to follow! From about 1774, to 1800,,they appear in northwestern Virginia near the Ohio River;in the Alleghany Mountains of Botetourt and Greenbrier Counties,VA.;in Tennessee, Kentucky,Georgia; and near their old home in old Augusta/Rockingham Counties,VA. Faught is the most-common name used by Casper's descendants. However, Faut,Fought, Fout and several other variants such as Fautt and Foute are sometimes found in county records.
Since , we Virginia Faughts have such a hard time accurately tracing our ancestry past about 1820,I suggest we need to pool resources and search for original records in county, state and Federal repositories. I have only concentrated on early Virginia and early Tennessee-tax, census, land and military records. Two individuals that I give particular attention are: Gasper Faught/Vaught and his family, who were in the Cherokee Nation from about 1799 to 1805. The other individual is William Faught, found in Hickman County, TN. from about 1812-15,Clarke County,Mississippi Territory[Alabama]1818,Lawrence County,TN.1820 and Carroll County, TN.1830.
Those searching for early Alabama ancestors may wish to contribute to the Gasper/William Faught search. Those with early Kentucky ancestors may wish to check out early[1774-1790] Augusta County, VA. and Pennsylvania records.Fayette County,PA. and Ohio County, WV. were claimed by both states when possibly one or more of Johan Paul Vogt's grandsons lived there.[Andrew Faut, settled in Ohio County and Phillip Fouts in Fayette County, near Old Redstone Fort]. Botetourt County, VA. Faughts moved to Kentucky in time for the 1790 census. There are ample records in the Botetourt County Clerk's office to trace the Paul and Powell- line of Kentucky Faughts. Later there were William , John and several others that may have moved down the Ohio River to Kentucky from Ohio County,WV., from PA.or from Wood County,WV.
Hi Steve I think the Cherokee connection is Levi Faught who married a cook. Also I know there is a Nancy Faught whose maiden name was Brown, now I do believe she married a Samuel Faught. So any way you need to look in the direction of the names of Brown, Dean, Rice this maybe your link....

denise brown

Hi Steve I know that there are families names Cook, and Dean who are Cherokee blood, I can't remember off hand but I think the boy Wiley married a Cook, that is of cherokee blood and then I believe I have some information that might help you, I will look through my records, there is one record I will for sure go over and see if this is a part of your family and then I will let you know, don't ever give up you know it may be that you never find actual proof but you know the history and you feel in your heart the Indian way and that no one can take from you...

denise brown

Hi Steve would love to see your tree; I have a Charlotte Faught born abt 1805 or 1806 it could be her first name is Rebbeca she married John Sisell. Anyway trying to find out if her father is Gaspar or Capar Faught who was born in the Cherokee Nation in Virginia. Any way never know what your going to find until you ask questions and let people hear about your family, I have learned a lot about sharing information it can get turned around till you don't even recognize it as your own tree, so be careful when sharing information only give out what you need to and only if you have a common relative for sure....

I really don't know what I can help you with but let me know....

denise brown/carlile

Hi. I'm a Fautt (previously Faught). Trying also to prove up an Indian connection. I grew up in Tulsa, and my mother was a Fautt. Decended from Samual J, through Madison T, William Madison Sr, William Madison Jr., Horace, and Betsy Fautt (my mother).

Trying to see if any of us were on the Dawes roles in Oklahoma while they were open for registration from 1898 to 1906 or so.

You can check my tree, I have quite a bit of info on Fautts. A good number of my family went to California in the 1930s dust bowl, Fautts and Poteets both.

Elizabeth Faught of the Indian Territory[Oklahoma] was probably kin to Charles and Nancy Faught, both Cherokees from Georgia. Charles [Charley] is listed in the 1835 census of Cherokees in Georgia scheduled for removal on the Trail of Tears. Charles' family was wife Nancy ,at least one daughter Margaret; and sons Wheeler and Eli.Charles was born in about 1805 at or near Spring Place, present Murray County, GA. He went to the Moravian Mission school at Spring Place in 1811.His father was either Gasper Vogt[Faught/Vaught], the builder of Chief James Vann's house at Spring Place; or Charley's father may have been one of Gasper's sons, who were also in the Cherokee Nation in 1805. Charley Faught died between 1835-38. Nancy, with her children,Margaret, Wheeler and Eli, Faught went to the Indian Territory in 1838. A good source of info is the GENFORUM: Wives of Chief James Vann ; Google:Cherokee Charles Vogt and Google: George Downing Genealogy.Several books including: Records of the Moravians among the Cherokees, and: Cherokee Genealogist by Emmett Starr, are good sources.

Have you turned up anything?

Someone posted his father as James E born in Kansas City in 1798. I think it is an error because the first settlement there was in 1804.

Do you have any research about Mary Faught Gentry? I believe she divorced my great-grandfather--I don't blame her--and remarried. She died in Oklahoma in 1929 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. She left behind several children, including a newborn. She has been very elusive. Anything you have would be helpful.

My Aunt, Merle Faught Bennett did extensive (20 years) research before she passed away and could not find any information earlier than John Henry.

Donald: After all that work getting you to my site, I found that the Faught lineage is not added. I am sorry about that. I have all the info, I just either never edited the site, or it disappeared. I will try to add it very soon. I also can send you a GEDCOM from George Faught back to the Vogt family.

My apology.

Mary and Maggie were Yearwoods. There is a cherokee connection, but I cant find it. Mary and William were married and I have there children, but I can only find her childhood with the Secoy family in Pemiscot County, MO. I can not find the Cherokee Princess stuff that was handed down to my grandfather from Nellie Faught, Mary's daughter. Let me know, please if you find out more!

Please feel free to look through my genealogy site, as I am sure we are related. Most of the Faughts in my family came from Tippah County and North, and many settled in the Blythevill AR area.

Re: Faught (Vogt) families in Ireland in 1709

Just recently found out that William Faught's middle name was Haughton (written as Horton on a marriage license). He was the son of Michael Faught and Mary Highfield (Hifield). In 1861 he married Rebecca Ann Walker in Dublin, Ireland. They apparently had a daughter in 1863. William's brother was John Highfield Faught (thus the confusion).

John was married twice, widowed the first time and had two daughters. He died in 1866 in Dublin. William came to the US sometime before 1868 because he married my great-great grandmother in New York City. Don't know if he left his wife and daughter behind or if they died about the time that his brother did and he came as a result of that. In any case he left his second wife in New York City about 1877. Family lore said that he was killed. Strange that his wife put an ad in the paper about fifteen years later looking for him. A William H. Faught was picked up about that time in Massachusetts for public drunkenness. Figure that gggrandfather was not a teetotaler.

Re: Edward William Jarrell (1832-1885);Tn>Tx

Hello Cousin!

Here is what I know of my part of the Faught-Jarrell line:

Four families travelled together from Christian County, MO to Texas around 1870. These families were the Inmans, the Faughts, the Jarrells, and the McConnells, all of whom had lived near/known each other in Giles County, TN. The children of these families inter-married over time, so there are many “double-cousins” in the mix. Somehow I think that maybe not all family members were of a harmonious frame of mind, as several brothers and cousins fought for differing sides during the Civil War. I would like to think that this was resolved prior to the move to Texas, but who knows? Maybe that’s why some remained in Missouri.

My great-grandfather, Turner Brown Faught (b. 12/17/1860 in TN; d. 7/14/1935 in Denton Co, TX), married Mattie M. Jarrell (b. 9/14/1862 in Lebanon, TN; d. 9/17/1935 in Denton Co, TX) married on 11/24/1884. They are buried on Prairie Mound Cemetery near Argyle, TX. My family still owned their farm until 1986, when economic reasons caused us to sell it. The 100+ year old barn still stands…sort of. Their children:

•	Addison Gay Faught – b. 12/17/1890; d. 5/16/1940
•	Leon Allison Faught – b. 8/14/1892; d. 12/20/1963
•	Andrew B. Faught – b. 8/10/1894; d. May 1967
•	Bertha May Faught – b. 12/6/1896; d. 4/25/1897
•	Jesse Ray Faught – b. 12/6/1896; d. 2/3/1898
•	Thelma Pauline Faught – b. 1/16/1900; d. 6/15/1959
•	Barbara Helen Faught – b. 2/9/1902; d. 12/17/1970
•	Ross M. Faught – b. 10/16/1903; d. 2/18/1994
•	William Pleasant Faught – b. 10/3/1905; d. 1976

My grandfather was their first child, Addison Gay Faught. He was born on the farm on 12/17/1890 and died there of peritonitis due to a ruptured appendix on 5/16/1940. He married Annie Elnora Adams (b. 5/29/1887; d. 1/31/1985) on 12/12/1915. My father was their third child, Delma Leonard “D.L.” Faught (b. 9/26/1922; d. 10/31/2009).

John Wesley Faught (b. 1/10/1854; d. 12/12/1922) was one of my great-grandfather’s brothers. He married Margaret Rosetta “Etta” Jarrell (b. 1/23/1858; d. 2/26/1942), sister of my great-grandmother. They had five children:

•	Maggie L. Faught – b. 9/26/1876; d. 6/27/1961
•	Alonzo Elphene Faught – b. 1879; d. 1906
•	Pearl Gertrude Faught – b. 4/13/1884; d. 2/7/1955
•	Cordelia Cecil Faught – b. 10/27/1885; d. 11/6/1966
•	Edward Miller Faught – b. 9/8/1887; d. 11/14/1961

I travel during the week on business, so all of my notes are at home. This is what I can readily access from my Ancestry.com family tree, which is all verified through family bibles and personal accounts. When I’m home again, I can fill you in on more – cousins, etc.

By the way, the first Sunday in May is Decoration Day at Prairie Mound. We generally place flowers on all the graves in our family line. Last year I placed flowers on the graves of Edward and Letitia “Sally” Jarrell also (my great-great grandparents).

Janet Faught Von Roeder
These settlements usually
consisted of homes of several families and a building used to
provide both the schooling and religious needs for the settlers.

This section will deal with the establishment of the churches in
the area surrounding the present day Argyle. Some of these
churches and communities are no longer in existence in 1998, but
their heritage is interlocked with that of the Argyle community.

Graham was located 1/2 miles south of the city of Denton and this
settlement was apparently named for Spencer Graham to whom 160
acres of land were originally patented on January 26, 1865. The
settlement of Graham, Denton County, Texas and the man Spencer
Graham apparently have no connection with the town of Graham, Young
County, Texas.

In 1876, the Graham Baptist Church was organized in a little box
school house, known as the Graham Schoolhouse. Because of the
school and church, an area located adjacent to the building soon
came to serve as a cemetery for the community. The cemetery is on
a sloping hillside overlooking a small stream of water, later known
as the Graveyard Branch. Early settlers once entered the cemetery
from the west after crossing the branch.

The family that played a predominant role in the formation of the
Graham School, Graham Baptist Church and the Graham Cemetery was
that of Dr. Edward William Jarrell (January 7, 1832 - June 3, 1885)
and his wife, Lettitia E. Moser Jarrell (October 21, 1838 in
Tennessee - January 19, 1914). The family lived approximately two
miles west of the Graham settlement, near what is now known as the
Crawford Road and 1-35W Intersection. Dr. Jarrell listed his
occupation as physician and farmer at the time of birth of his
tenth child, Barnett Newton Jarrell on December 31,1881. According
to Denton County Birth Records, four Jarrell men settled in Denton
County in the last three decades of the 1800's. Three gravitated
to the Graham area, (E.W.,Caskey, and Joseph Alfred) and one lived
in Denton.

Each man married and sired a number of children. William Fountain
Jarrell, Sr., lived on Sycamore Street in Denton and was a dry
goods merchant in 1889. Caskey Jarrell came from Kentucky and
married Cara Lindsey of Lewisville, Texas. He listed his
occupation as a farmer, carpenter, and a Santa Fe Railroad
employee by 1898. Joseph Alfred Jarrell came from Lebon (Wilson
County) Tennessee and listed his occupation as a farmer in 1892.
His wife, Sarah Alma Strader, came from Marshfield, Missouri.

Charter members of the Graham Baptist Church were Dr. and Mrs. E.W.
Jarrell and their three daughters - Mrs. Turner (Mattie) Faught,
Mrs.John W. (Margarett) Faught and Mrs. Will Y. (Tollie) Fincher;
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lane and their two daughters; and Mr. and Mrs. R.
Till Lane. Nellie D. Lane, wife of W.L. Lane, is buried in the
Graham Cemetery. She was born August 26, 1867 and died February
19, 1893.

The presbytery organizing the Graham Baptist Church was composed of
the Reverends A.T. Thompson, J.O. Daniels and R.G.M. Elland.

The Sunday School was organized soon after the church and Dr. E.W.
Jarrell served as superintendent until his death. In 1887, two
years after Dr. Jarrell's death, the Graham School house burned and
was never rebuilt. Consequently, the church transferred its
services to the Lane Schoolhouse, three miles east of Graham. A
part of the Church moved to Argyle in 1891, a station on the
railroad, which was 1/2 mile south of where the church was
originally! organized. Those remaining at the Lane Schoolhouse
organized another church, which they called Smyrna Baptist Church.
Those moving to Argyle established the Argyle Missionary Baptist
Church which later became known as the First Baptist Church of
Argyle, Texas.

In 1899, the Church reorganized and services were held in the
Presbyterian Church, Masonic Hall and the Methodist Church.

It was not until 1888 that the Graham Cemetery became official,
when the land being used for that purpose was deeded by C.N.
Jarrell and his wife, M.T. Jarrell, to H.R. Fehlison, G.W. Blair
and D.C. McReynolds as trustees for the Graham Cemetery. To quote
from the deed as found in Volume 33, page 400, in the Denton
County Clerk's Records: The described land is deeded to said
Trustees and their successors a cemetery for the whites of the
surrounding community.

The document is dated May 9, 1888. In 1981, this location is
described as 1/2 mile north of the town of Argyle on the Fort Worth
Highway (No.10) which is now called the Country Club Road between
Argyle and Denton. U.S. Highway 377 runs north and south on the
west side of the cemetery. We can only assume that C.N. and M.T.
Jarrell were descendants or other relatives of Dr. E.W. Jarrell.
Records are not available to verify the identity of C.N. Jarrell.
Again assumption plays a role in trying to fill in the gaps of
history.

Both Dr. and Mrs. E.W. Jarrell are buried in the Prairie Mound
Cemetery. Is it because the Graham Cemetery was not officially
deeded for that purpose until three years after Dr. Jarrell's death
or was it because the Prairie Mound Cemetery was closer to the
Jarrell home?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you can add, subtract, delete, change any of the above data
please advise.
Hi Robert; thanks for your prompt reply.

As far as I know I descend from Gaspar or Casper Faught or Vaught he was born 5 December 1763 Peaked Maountain, Augusta, Virginia and he died after 1803, then I have a Charlotte Faught not sure if wife or child of his.

Really I'v just started on this line of my family, so of course I'm seeking information from others who may be linked with our family.

In my search with my family going back to colonial times we are from Virginia or Maryland, then through North and South Carolina then trough Mississippi and on to AR and TX, and then of course migration out west to California.

I have kept your information that way if I get more info and it connects then I'll let you know.

Once again thanks so much for the help.

Denise Brown (Carlile).

Without knowing more about your Faught-kin, I can only give you some general info from my searches over the years.

Faught is an American variation of the German name Vogt.Plenty of Vogts came to America.
In one instance in Virginia in the 1730-40s,Orange and Augusta County,Virginia court clerks spelled Vogt as Vaught and Faught. This is the family I trace-back to. In another instance, a Faught-family, probably German---first settled in Northern Ireland and then, before the revolutionary war, immigrated to the Massachussets colony.

Many of the Virginia Faught/Vaughts migrated westward in the late 1700s and early 1800s. They settled in the new territories and states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky.
At least one family settled near Pittsburg in a part of old Virginia that later became a part of Pennsylvania.
The Mass. family ended up in the part of that state that became Maine; and some probably migrated to Canada and westward along the Great lakes into Ohio and Indiana from there.

The bottom line is---Unless you know where your Faught -ancestors originated, you will be unable to trace- back to the first generation in America.
I have had good luck in tracing my line back from Henry J.and his father, John J. Faught of Tipton County, TN. to Samuel Faught, born in 1790 in Virginia[died in Giles County, TN. in 1857]. However,I have had trouble determining if Samuel's father was William--- or Gasper Faught.

I have found that:
The Christian County Missouri Faughts of the civil war period were closely related to the Giles County, TN. Faughts; and that many moved from there to Texas.
The Alabama Faughts of the pre-civil war period appear to have been related to the Giles and neighboring Lawrence County,TN.Faughts.
Arkansas and Mississippi Faught families of the civil war-period appeared to have came from Alabama,Tennessee and Kentucky.
A Gasper Faught and several other names appear in Shelby and Franklin County,Kentucky before the War of 1812. Soon thereafter, both Indiana and Ohio record Faught settlers.

I give you all of this info, hoping you can pick up a lead to either Virginia or Mass./Maine.Those seem to be the two points of origin for the Faughts in America. Good luck on your quest.
