I know she has a sister name Louise and a brother name Franklin. She was married to Wayne Mock in 1958 in SC. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Also I hear there is book about the Faulkenberry's from South Carolina, do you know about it and how I can get it?

I just received James H. Faulkenbery/berry's Civil War service file. The records indicate that he mustered in at the age of 33 on 14 August 1863 in Pilot Knob, MO. This would give him a birth year of 1830. Could he be the brother of Jacob Thomas Calvin (b. 1828), David Edward (b. 1825) or Leander (b. 1818)? Jacob Thomas Calvin named his oldest son James H. (b. 1854 in Black River, MO). Any and all ideas welcome!

Ann

James H. FAULKENBERRY and Sarah A. KYLE/COIL

I just received a Civil War pension packet for James H. Faulkenberry. He married Sarah A. Kyle/Coil 7 June 1854. They were married by John Stricklin (Strickland?) in Centerville, Reynolds Co., MO. (Sarah had married John Miller 18 Sept 1852 and he died 15 Dec. 1852.) James enlisted in the Civil War 9 Aug. 1863 and was discharged 13 July 1865. He fought in Co. A, 3rd Reg't, MO Cavalry. According to the pension records, he was a blacksmith and was injured while shoeing a horse in 1864. Following the war, the family moved to Kansas at some point. They were living in New Albany, Wilson Co., KS in 1890. James died there 18 Feb. 1897. Sarah was living in Sheridan, Crawford Co., KS at the time of the 1900 census (T623_477 p. 5A ED 91). According to that census, they had had 10 children and 6 were alive in 1900. It also states that she was 64, born Sept. 1835 in Kentucky, and a widow. A son, John, 21, born Dec. 1878 in Kansas, is living with her. I found them in the 1860 census in Black River, Reynolds Co., MO (family #37, M653_643). The name looks like "Foukenberry" and James is listed as J.H. At that time, he was 27 and Sarah was 26. They had a 3 year old daughter Cintha. It indicates that 12 year old Frances Ward (female) is living with them.

Can someone tell me who the parents of James H. are? Also, do you know the names of the other children? I'm not quite sure how he fits into my family tree.

Thanks!

Ann

Betty,
We have communicated before! I descend from Ruth's sister Cinthia BRAWLEY and her husband James FAULKENBERRY. Do you know who the parents of your David and William FAULKENBERRY are?

I found Hugh P. FAULKENBERRY (FAULKENBERG in the index on Ancestry), age 26, in the 1850 census in Reynolds Co., MO. Living with him are Jane, 20, born MO, and Martha, 14, born MO. You don't list them as sisters of Hugh. Do you know who they are? I see from the MO state archives that Martha died in 1855 of typhoid fever. The death certificate states that Martha was born in AR.

Any thoughts about this?

Ann

foodguy3:

Have you considered doing the DNA test? A great grandson of Jeremiah Faulkinberry tested and at this time he does not match with any of the others in the project. It would be helpful...and interesting...to know if you match with him or any of the others in the Fortenberry DNA project. This newest research tool is most likely the only hope we have of connecting to earlier ancestors. You are an ideal candidate since your lineage back to Jacob and Rebekah has been proven.

For more information on this project go to: "http://www.familytreedna.com/public/fortenberrydna/"

Looking for information on the mother of a female child born to Laban Faulkenbury (father, age 28) July 18, 1944 at the Mercy Hosptial, Elwood, Indiana. Mother was 40 years old at the time with possibly an 18 yr daughter in another city. Birth certificate stated her name as "Ruth M." Faulkenbury, but never officially married Leban. She gave up the little girl for adoption. Ruth (may not be her real name)may have lived in Elwood and thought to have attended or taught at Butler University. Laban died in 1948. Seeking info on possibility of birth mother still living or other step relatives of same.

In my records, Jacob was born on Feb 14, 1757 in Anson County, NC, and died on Nov 2, 1844 in Decatur County, IN.

He was married to Charity (last name unknown) who was still living in 1830 in Decatur County but must have died prior to 1836 because Jacob married Lavinia Brown on Jan 19, 1836.

Jacob and Charity moved from SC to Casey County, KY around 1800-1802 and lived there until 1826 when they sold their land and moved on to Indiana where they lived out the rest of their lives. They appear to have had about eleven children two of whom moved with them to Indiana and made their lives there.

Please let me know if you need any additional information..

Looking to identify Leander Faulkenberry's (b. 1819 TN) siblings and parents. He married Malinda Chapman in lawrence county TN and moved to Reynolds county Missouri. David Edward and Thomas (who later moved to IL) are on teh same 1850 census page in Reynolds county. and I think they are likely siblings. Hugh P. Faulkenberry is also in the area and may be a brother or cousin. If anyone can help tie these people together please let me know!

Ann and Nadyne,
I am a descendent of Leander Faulkenberry who married in Lawrence county, TN and moved to reynolds county, MO. In the 1850 census in reynolds county Leander, David Edward and Thomas were all on the same page. I am almost certain they must have been brothers and am trying to tie them all together. I am trying to build a family group of siblings and parents but can not yet definitively identify who all is tied. Have either of you found a death certificate for Thomas? Have you researched Leander or David Edward? Thank you for any help.

Hi Helen!

My Jacob T. C. Faulkenberry was born in 1828 so your John can't be his father. I've had some responses that indicate that his parents may have been James Faulkenberry and Cinthia Brawley which would make sense since his first daughter was named Cynthia Brawley Faulkenberry. However, I have no proof of this at this point.

Thanks for your response!

Ann

Rebecca, did you find any information on your line? My ggggrandparents were Jacob Thomas Calvin (Thomas) Faulkenberry and Margery Hasty. Both were born in Tennessee circa 1830. They were living in Black River, Reynolds Co., Missouri by 1850 and then moved to Monroe Co., Illinois by 1870. They had 7 children. I have the names of these five: Cynthia Brawley Faulkenberry (my gggrandmother, born 1850); Sarah Jane (born 1852); James (born 1854); Margaret (born 1857); John (born 1870). I am guessing that the other two were born in the 1860 although I have no record of them at this time.

I don't believe that John married. He and his mother are listed in St. Louis in the 1910 and 1920 census records and he is listed in 1930. James married Isabell (surname unknown) and had at least 7 children: Thomas (born 1882); Maggie (born 1885); Margie (born 1887); Minnie (born 1892); Hughey O. (born 1895); Louis O. (born 1995); James (born 1898). Hughey or Louis may have gone by the nickname of Otto. James died before 1910; Isabell died 7 Jan 1948.

Could this be your family?

Ann

Hi Natasha!
I descend from the Thomas that you mention. His real name per his Civil War records is Jacob Thomas Calvin Faulkenberry! He married Margaret/Margery Hasty. She was the daughter of Jacob Hasty and Sarah HIll Copeland. As for Thomas' parents and siblings, I believe that his parents were James Faulkenberry, born 1799 in GA. On 5 Setp 1821 in Rutherford Co., TN, he married Cinthia Brawley, born 1802 in TN. It is generally believed (in other words, no proof) that they had these three sons:
Leander, born abt. 1818
David Edward, born 29 Mar 1825
Jacob "Thomas," born 9 Jan 1828

I think this makes sense. When Thomas married, he named his first born Cynthia Brawley Faulkenberry, after his mother. Cynthia is my gg grandmother.

I'm not sure how Hugh fits in.

The Faulkenberry, Hasty, and Copeland families seemed to have moved together.

Ann

Faulkenberrys in Moredock Illinois

I have found Thomas (53, b. TN) and Margery (44, b. TN)Faulkenberry (in the index as Faulkenberg) in the 1880 census for Monroe Co., Illinois (T9_237, p. 65A, ED 66, image 0131). They have a son John who is 10 and was born in Illinois. I believe that these are the same people listed in the 1850 census for Reynolds Co., MO (in the index as Faulkenbury, M432_412, p. 391). I find Margery (Faulkenburry) in the 1900 census in St. Louis, ward 11, with her son John (T623_893, p. 2A, ED 170). The entry states that she has had one child and that child is still living. Obviously, that would be John. I am wondering if this is true. Does anyone know about this family?

Ann

Jacob T. C. Faulkenberry

I just received the Civil War pension records for the widow of Jacob T. C. (Thomas Calvin) Faulkenberry. According to the records, he was born in Lawrence Co., TN, married Margery Hasty (born in TN 1830) 9 Aug 1848, fought in the Civil War 1864-1865, and died in Monroe Co.,/St. Clair Co., Illinois in 1888. According to Margery's 1900 census records in St. Louis, they had 7 children. I have: Cynthia Brawley Faulkenberry (my gggrandmother), b. 29 June 1850; Sarah Jane Faulkenberry b. abt. 1852; James Faulkenberry, b. abt. 1854; Margaret Faulkenberry, b. abt. 1857; John T. Faulkenberry, b. abt. 1870.

They lived in Iron Co., MO prior to the Civil War and moved to Illinois following the war.

Does anyone know who Jacob Thomas Calvin Faulkenberry's parents were? Most census records indicate that his name was Thomas Faulkenberry.

Ann

Can anyone tell me who the Faulkenberry/Falkenberg family is that is listed in the 1870 census for Monroe Co., Illinois M593_261 p. 555 (page number on document says 20, post office is Merrimac)? The initials look like I.S.C. with wife Margaret. Thomas and Cynthia Rusan who live next door are my gg grandparents. Cynthia's maiden name was Faulkenberry and the family bible says that her parents were Thomas Calvin and Margery Hasty Faulkenberry, not I.S.C. and Margaret.

I found Thomas Falkenberry/berg in Monroe Co., Illinois, Twp. 2, Range 11, p 547 (document says p. 4, post office Columbia) with his wife Margaret. Living with them is a daughter, Lucinda, age 20!

From the 1850 and 1860 census records, I know that two Cynthia Faulkenberrys were born in Black River, Reynolds Co., MO in 1849/50. The parents of one were Thomas and Margery; the parents of the other were Leander and Margaret. I don't know if the information in the bible was added later and may be incorrect....help!!
Helen Williams,
Do you have any males in your family who still carry the FAULKENBERRY surname? If so, might they submit to a DNA test from Family Tree DNA. My brother did, and he was a perfect match with three men (only seven have been tested as yet). It would be great to know what your DNA line looks like. Y-DNA is carried only though the male, so the participant must be male with the surname. Nadyne Lynn
I have found a direct descendent of Henry Jacob Falkenburg, who most researchers believe we descended from. By doing a DNA test we will be able to find out if we have a common ancestor. I am looking for male descendents from any of these familys who would like get in the project. We will be able to find out if we have a common ancestor and about how many generations back to that ancestor. We will be able to answer many of the questions we all have. Being as our names Fortenberry, Faulkenberry, Falconberry all originated in America this is the only way we are going to be able to find out where we came from for sure. Anyone interested in joining ccontact me at r410berry@msn.com. The basic test is 99.00 if we get at least 6 people to join. I have three right now and as soon as we get three more we can get started. I will pay for William Falkenburgs being as he is a main key.

Can anyone connect with them? They were both born in Tennessee.

Ann
