Hi,

I am one of the last members of the Hayhurst family, who is somehow related to the Faulstich families especially in Missoula, MT.

I would like more information if possible on that connection and by who is in that marriage connection. I know that the Gade family and Voss or Veit family is in it as well in lineage. The Long family was also in our lineage.

I wasn't told anything as a child, but I knew Eddie Faulstich in Montana and I think that his wife was named Mary?

Any information is helpful. Minnie was my great grandmother, who later married a man named Hipsch, and Louis W. Hayhurst was my grandfather. Edna May Rosar was my grandmother. Louis had a sister named Hazel and I think that a lady named Opal was also in our family.

I may have stumbled onto part of the information, but I want to read it from another source other than what I already have. I know that Wenzel Hipsch married a Minnie, and I am just making sure that that is the right one, and making sure of her maiden name if possible.

Since the Faulstich family is close to us, I figured that your records may be the best to hear it from.

I think that Eddie's first name was William, but I am not sure of that. We used to go out camping with the Faulstich's when we lived in Missoula. At one time Eddie and the Hayhursts had some property which they both shared, which I am sure is long gone, but it was another thing which I knew about. Again, any information of what happened to it is interesting, but probably lost. Contact me at mares8oats@comcast.net

Thanks, Yori
Hello, my name is Fred. I'm a native New Yorker, but I've been going to Saylorsburg PA since I was a kid. I remember Dorney Park when the mascot was ALFUNDO and Wild Water KIngdom had yet to be built. My uncles parents lived right next door to what is now Faulstick & Son. I noticed that Mary Faulstick is buried on Golf Course Road and she passed in 1909; on the marker it says wife of Samuel. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hey Cousin Kathy,

Sorry to hear of your Grandma Marion's passing. Let me know about the memorial. It may be an excuse for some of the Illinois Faulstich's to come join you if we wouldn't be in the way. Maybe we could invite some of the German cousins as well.

Tomorrow evening sounds fine to talk. I'm 51 and in Chicago.

Karl

Hi Kathy,

We celebrated Regina's birthday at a nursing home in the Milwaukee area. I can't remember the names of her children that I met. I think I saw at least one of her sons at an event honoring Sr. Mary Demetria Faulstich in Frankfort, IL later in the 1990's. I believe some of the Gross's live out by Lake Geneva and winter in Arizona, per Father John (Jack) Flattery of Danville. Father Jack has much of the family tree info, as do others in Danville.

The brothers that settled in Danville in the late 1800's were Franz, Anton and August Faulstich. Thinking about it, I'm not sure if Regina would have been their sister or their niece. Again, Father Jack would have that info.

If you want to call me to discuss, my phone is 773-784-8240.

Karl Faulstich

Sorry it took so long to respond. Im not sure if our relatives are related or not. As far as I know, Regina didnt have any other relatives that came over from Germany. Where did you celebrate her birthday? I am hopefully skeptical, but would love for there to be a connection. Let me know. Kathy

My great-grandfather was Franz Faulstich, who settled in Danville, IL along with two of his brothers. I have some information about cousins both in the states as well as in Germany. I attended one of Regina's birthday parties, perhaps her 103rd, with cousins from Germany in the 1990's.

Karl Faulstich
Chicago, IL

I am looking for his ancestors, can anyone help?

I have seen that Balthasar Faulstich arrived Phila by ship in 1754, and have seen a statement that he is the immigrant ancestor of the PA Faulsticks. Can anyone verify this, and if it is true, help fill in the generations between Balthasar and Samuel?

Many thanks for your help!

Re: Faulstich/Fallstich PA

Mary Ann Faulstich was my great-great grandmother, too. My information shows that she was born in Germany (Bavaria) but I haven't been able to verify that. She married Francis (Franz, Frank) Smith in about 1847; he was born in Germany and came to PA around 1847, so I don't know if they married in Germany or PA. The 1900 Census shows that she could read and write but did not speak English, so I assumed that she was from Germany. They had 5 children:
Elizabeth Smith (b. 13 Mar 1847 in PA, d. 08 Dec 1939 in WY)
Mary M. Smith (b. 1850 in PA)
Katherine Smith (b. Oct 1855 in PA, d. 04 Aug 1935 in IN)
Henry Smith (b. 28 Feb 1861 in PA, d. 1934 in St. Libory, NE)
Joseph Francis Smith (b. 18 Jun 1863 in PA, d. 28 Jan 1927 in WA).

They lived in Lancaster and Elk Counties, PA but later moved to Benton County, Indiana before settling in St. Libory, Nebraska in the late 1870s.

Because I don't know if Mary Faulstich was born in Germany or PA, I have had a hard time tracing that line. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would also be grateful to see photographs, if they exist, of these ancestors.

Julian & Johann Konrad & Nikolaus & Heinrich Faulstich came to the USA as emigrants in 1867 from Germany and then Heinrich went back and got his sister Josepha Faulstich and came back to the USA in 1873. My great grandfather is Julian or Julius Faulstich.Julius settled in South Dakota and I was told the rest of the brothers settled in Philadephia area as bakers and some in New York. I do have a pretty complete list for Julian and some on his brothers and then info for their parents and grandparents back to Germany and dates to 1673. Would like to find out more info about great uncles. Would like to hear from other family members..E-mail me and I will reply and will be happy to share my info. I have a picture of the four brothers from Germany and picture of the family home in Germany.I do have a cousin Mary in Fulda, Germany that I write to. She is in her 90's and quite abit of the info have been verified by her.

Cindy,
Thanks for the reply, and the information. To add, a cousin of my father's, Bob Faulstich, (now deceased, as is Alfred, my father) has a son named James who now resides in Hawaii with his wife. James did an extensive tour in Germany about 15 years back, and spent significant time/energy researching the Faulstich roots there. He came away with a very impressive tree that dates back to the middle 1600's. much of the family action there centered around a town that I will have to check into some records he gave me to be specific with the name thereof. He mentioned staying in a Faulstich gusthaus owned and opperated by Faulstich's for many generations. As you point out, whether all the Faulstich/k's and Fallstick/h's are related given the number of possibilities for the derevations and origins probably will remain mostly speculation, even with this marvelous communication/information tool. It is our understanding that Faulstich is translated "false stich" as in the common way clothing is now sewn together, and that the early Faulstich's in Germany were tailors. As you noted Jeff's website, the Faulstich Bros. clothiers store in Iowa, perhaps were influenced by what they perceived their ancestors to be involved in. My immediate lineage has a fair number of Lutheran ministers in it as mentioned my father, as well as his father, and his father, of my father's eleven siblings, three others besides my father were also ordained into the ministry as was my brother Roy, who resides in Michigan.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,
My grandmother was Myrtle Fallstich. From what I have been able to put together, our line began with a Balthaser Faulstich who immigrated in 1754. It seems to be the only line with a spelling variation without the "u". The spellings varied in church, census and other records, but it was always without the "u", although I did find one family line that did use the Faulstich/k spelling. The story I heard was that spelling in German meant the family was lazy. I determined that story developed because that line was particularly poor in the early 1800's and lived in and out of poor houses. The family originated in Eastern PA (Northampton & Lehigh Counties)and some parts branched out to Centre and Cambria Counties in PA. I have looked at Jeff Faulstich's website in the past, but I don't know if there is a connection. Many of the names are similar to the names in my line. It is possible there was a connection back in Germany. I have not done any research over there since I don't know where Balthaser came from.

Cindy,
Found your board on a random and (very) occasional search of my own name just to make sure there isn't something out here that is off-the-mark so to speak. As for your interest in knowing more about people with my sur-name and others similarly spelled...Faulstich is the closest, as a group of relatives officially changed their h's to k's back around the 1930's. All and therefore most Faulstich's and Faulstick's can trace their "root's" in this country to the mid-western states, and Iowa in particular. You have probably seen the Faulstich website created and sponsored by Jeff Faulstich and his wife. They have made some changes in it in the last year or so, and most of it was, since it included my branch, (I'm not sure it still does, but if not it should) is a pretty accurate tree, dating from the original Immigrant from Germany, Johann Faulstich, in the mid 1800's. My mother Eleanor lives in the Pittsburgh, PA area, and she and Reverand Alfred Faulstick, a former pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Oakmont, PA are my parents. I am married and living in Connecticut.

That is a start at least, and perhaps you will reply with some information about yourself and hour interest in us.

Best to you and yours,
Mark

Mary,
I can't say for sure if there is a connection with your Mary. If I had to guess, I would say yes because I don't believe there were any other Faulstich lines in PA at that time. The ones that kept that spelling were very poor. I found references to children living in a poorhouse and many times the children were living with other families as servants. Do you know where in PA she was born or have a reference to a church or sponsors? I will let you know if I come across anything.

Cindy,
I do not have any info on where in PA she was born, but I do have information where a son was born to her and Frank Smith (or Schmidt). It was Elk Co. near St. Mary's. They were probably very poor judging by all other information I have. One of the sons did well enough in Nebraska to be entered into the Compendium and that's where I found the info re his birthplace.

I just this moment discovered my 2GGrandmother's maiden name of Faulstich. Her name was Mary and she was born 22 Jul 1822 in Pennsylvania and married Frank (Franz) Smith (Schmidt). They farmed in Benton Co. (were there as of 1870) but moved to St. Libory, NE in 1879 and are buried at the St. Libory's Catholic Cemetery. Any connection to your Faulstich's?
