In 1870 the General Convention voted 'to look towards education children of slaves' but it was five years before the brethren looked hard enough to establish the first school and then it was largely the result of the concern of one man and his wife, Mr. and Mrs Randal Faurot, who founded the Southern Christian Institute in Edwards Mississippi, a remarkably well conceived school.
I am interested in the book "Pilgrams Progress" and more about these pieces of my family. i am the great grandchild of Mr. and Mrs Randal Faurot. Thanking you in Advance.
